Stylish trainers for work

Hi I need some stylish trainers to wear for a conference. I’m senior management but will also be helping with logistics and mucking in so need to be comfortable while also having professional meetings all week. Also have plantar fasciitis mildly so need to be careful.

I generally don’t have any problems with styling myself but have no clue when it comes to trainers. I’m 50 years old. Don’t want to look like going to gym. Will be wearing with cropped trousers and a top. Pref all white or all navy. What brands are best for my age and the situation please and where from?

But in that case, @Pherian the OP would surely be better off taking advice on the best footwear for her specific feet from a podiatrist, rather than fashion advice on MN? As I understood it her foot condition was only an additional consideration, and not the main reason why she wanted trainers for her conference.

(If it were me I’d much rather have a supportive pair of boots into which an orthotic insole could be inserted.)

If you want to look stylish say no to adidas/vega/sketchers and get these onitsukas. https://www.onitsukatiger.com/gb/en-gb/sclaw/p/1183b969-400.html

Hoff might be worth a try .

MaJoady · 30/08/2025 22:52

I'm eyeing up a pair from Lanx for similar reasons. Their loafers (the old style) are insanely comfortable for me, with great arch support and don't slip off my feet. I'm hoping their trainers will be the same, and because they're proper leather look much smarter than most trainers

Studyunder · 30/08/2025 23:04

Most of these suggestions have flat soles which is the last thing you want with plantar fasciitis. You need a slightly higher pitch/heel drop on a trainer, plus be habit of doing daily calf stretches (separate gastrocnemius & soleus stretches) as a long term habit.

Skimama123 · 30/08/2025 23:15

I have two pairs of the adidas breaknet sleek, they come in loads of colours and have a memory foam sole so they are super comfy

Jaws2025 · 31/08/2025 00:00

Birkenstock also make trainees, can get in white or navy, haven't tried them but you'd imagine they'd be comfortable

buffy2025 · 31/08/2025 00:26

How do people keep the side of the white soles clean? While you’re all here and knowledgeable!

I’ve also been looking at those, I get a hefty discount but haven’t tried any yet!

Sketchers 👍

Magic eraser and water works very well. I just buy the cheap ones in places like Home bargains.

Why can’t you wear shoes? I cannot see how trainers will be ‘best for the situation’ - particularly as they’re not your habitual work wear.

(Unless, of course, you’ll be involved in some sports or children’s activities during the conference? In which case you could change out of your shoes for the activity.)

I am perfectly well aware that trainers are mainstream footwear. That isn’t the point, though.

Because trainers look good, suitable for the occasion and very comfortable.

I have different trainers for different occasions:
work - i am looking to replace my previous one with these: https://www.modainpelle.com/new-in-c58/new-trainers-c178/bailly-black-leather-p16426

i also bought these on the sale: https://www.modainpelle.com/sale-c79/sale-trainers-c180/bay-camel-leather-p16288

i have the veja trainers in white leather: https://www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/7,709/3427112242?_gl=11iyv2o7_upMQ.._gs*MQ..&gclid=Cj0KCQjwwsrFBhD6ARIsAPnUFD3np5LWOyv2PEnzdGa1NkJLwBl-3O6ufB52Urp4fr1lQKhd6Z2ShtUaAldTEALw_wcB&gbraid=0AAAAAD19QKF6uaVvCo03Pms8hMoNMENO1

they all work well for work (senior position but child focused)
i find leather trainers easier to keep clean

out and about: adidas

I have exactly this style of trainers in black, white and navy. Always buy leather if I can and I have a pair of Jones the Boot maker own brand ones that are a few years old but still look good. With cigarette or wide leg trousers, or a maxi dress or skirt they look smart and are a perfect alternative to other flat shoes.

The key is to look after them and replace when they start to look a bit scruffy.

I have orthotic insoles so the sole isn't a problem but Fit Flop are good for general foot support.

Bowies · 31/08/2025 06:41

Camper with ortholite food bed is amazing, these would be smart and practical and as just as if not more comfortable and supportive than trainers.

Edited to say I sometimes size up but best to go in store to try on if you can.

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 31/08/2025 06:56

I have PF and you should wear footwear that raises your heel. Never wear anything with a flat sole, so a lot of these recommendations are useless.
I wear sketchers.
I also have a pair of heeled sandals from Clarks. I know you don’t want sandals but they are incredible comfortable and ok if I’m not walking too far. They also fit the unique task of being comfortable and stylish.
So far the only trainers I can wear are sketchers.

Yep Onitsuka Tiger is the way to go. Lots of different colours and style, but very sleek and great arch support.https://www.onitsukatiger.com/gb/en-gb/tokuten/p/1183c429-200.html?channable=01640c696400313832343431cb

nwiqcb · 31/08/2025 07:16

Birkenstock bend, they do a completey white one or black with white sole, both same footbed as the sandals

Kerri44 · 31/08/2025 07:38

I have Lacoste smart ones in white with a gold metal crocodile on them

Fitflop trainers were an absolute godsend when I had PF.
Not the rally style, it didn’t have enough support for me.

I love those…

FeministThrowingAPrincessParty · 31/08/2025 08:45

My podiatrist recommended Geox. They have some really smart pairs.

boxtop · 31/08/2025 09:42

Adidas Handball Spezial are the ones a bit like Gazelles but with proper arch support. I have high arches and they're one of the few "lifestyle" trainers that support me enough.

(Adidas nerd note, Spezial or SPZL is a suffix that they add to loads of their classic styles of trainers, a bit like "Clarks Originals", so "Adidas Spezials" does not give you enough info to go on, but it's the Handball Spezials that are being promoted a lot at the moment in various retailers)

I was wearing asics but my toe has poked a hole and i decided i wanted something smarter. I’ll probably end up going back to them and attempting to stitch the hole up! A running shop recommended them to me

you can buy fittings that go inside the runner to stop the toe hole forming. always happens to both my mother and mil runners. it's because of your foot slipping to the front at you walk
