Stylish trainers for work

Hi I need some stylish trainers to wear for a conference. I’m senior management but will also be helping with logistics and mucking in so need to be comfortable while also having professional meetings all week. Also have plantar fasciitis mildly so need to be careful.

I generally don’t have any problems with styling myself but have no clue when it comes to trainers. I’m 50 years old. Don’t want to look like going to gym. Will be wearing with cropped trousers and a top. Pref all white or all navy. What brands are best for my age and the situation please and where from?

Have a look at Sketchers.

Ruthietuthie · 31/08/2025 10:26

I have these in both colors and love them.

Another vote for Air and Grace - pricey but really good quality and lots of options. Mine are 4 years old and look new (sandals also awesome) They're a bit less ubiquitous as well.

OnlyHasEyesForLoki · 31/08/2025 13:34

I’m 57 & get plantar fasciitis - I wear these for casual (not gym) and they’re great! I feel well dressed but not like I’m trying to be a teenager - Here

My sis has PF and wears fit flop trainers and boots in winter and fit flop sandals in summer and says they are the most comfortable she’s ever worn. Alternatively, try Nike AF1 or the Adidas with cloud foam.

Clark’s have some plain ones www.clarks.com/en-gb/womens/womens-trainers/w_trainers_uk-c

How do people keep the side of the white soles clean? While you’re all here and knowledgeable!

I had the start of PF and switched to only wearing my Fitflops and it went away.

I prefer the F-mode trainers like those linked above or eg https://www.mandmdirect.com/01/details/FT30355/FitFlop-Womens-F-Mode-Flatform-Trainers-Midnight-Navy?aff

I have a pair of FF Rally too but the sole isn't as good on those. Okay, just not as amazing as the others for my feet..

FitFlop Womens F-Mode Flatform Trainers Midnight Navy

I'd suggest yiu dont get trainers with a diff coloured sole.

So all black Sketchers, Adidas or Converse.

But OP wants all white or navy?

DopeyMum16 · 31/08/2025 19:25

I love Cole Haan trainers - lightweight , smart and stay smart looking. I have 2 pairs of white and a dusky mauve/pink pair. They also do other styles like brogues and ballet flats .

All black ones can sadly have a tendency to look like little boy's school shoes though. I've got some black Stans which are beautifully comfortable, but `I hardly ever wear them for this reason.

CarefulN0w · 31/08/2025 20:16

Surprised to see converse recommended as I find them flat, narrow and with no arch support.

Dippythedino · 31/08/2025 20:54

I have the fit flop rally trainers which I can wear all day without any issues. All fit flops foot wear have memory foam in soles and designed for arch support. So perfect for those with plantar fascitis and general foot problems.

Russel and Bromley trainers are the only ones I ever feel are smart enough for work. The Park range are great, different levels, colours, fabrics eg https://www.russellandbromley.co.uk/park-mid/243909
These are an interesting shoe trainer hybrid
https://www.russellandbromley.co.uk/blakelow-lace-up/243825
Slightly elevated heel so should be comfortable

Have you tried the Spezials? Those have some arch support. I bought a bunch of the suede ones recently to wear to work and they’re ridiculously comfortable.

Am fully backing this. I spent 11 hours on my feet working Saturday and was fine with spezials - way more supportive than Sambas or gazelles.

you can buy fittings that go inside the runner to stop the toe hole forming. always happens to both my mother and mil runners. it's because of your foot slipping to the front at you walk

Ooh thanks for the tip

ChocoChocoLatte · 01/09/2025 11:23

@CarefulN0w @Wadadli

I can’t walk in the flat converse at all but I LOVE my slightly curved, platform ones. So much so am on my second pair.

Fozzleyplum · 01/09/2025 13:13

I wear Allbirds, which are very comfortable and have a shaped insole. Most of their styles are machine washable,so it's easy to keep them pristine. Some of the styles are suitable for work wear.

ToadRage · 01/09/2025 13:55

I swear by skechers, have worn them for years, plain black ones at work and recently bought a pair of bright pink slip-ins. I recently got ankle/foot orthotics and needed shoes with a removable insole and slip-ins mean i don't have to bend down which is harder now due to my disability

But in that case, @Pherian the OP would surely be better off taking advice on the best footwear for her specific feet from a podiatrist, rather than fashion advice on MN? As I understood it her foot condition was only an additional consideration, and not the main reason why she wanted trainers for her conference.

(If it were me I’d much rather have a supportive pair of boots into which an orthotic insole could be inserted.)

Well, I’m sure that as a grown up the OP can decide a) if she wants to post here and b) what kind of footwear she wants to wear.
