Stylish trainers for work

Hi I need some stylish trainers to wear for a conference. I’m senior management but will also be helping with logistics and mucking in so need to be comfortable while also having professional meetings all week. Also have plantar fasciitis mildly so need to be careful.

I generally don’t have any problems with styling myself but have no clue when it comes to trainers. I’m 50 years old. Don’t want to look like going to gym. Will be wearing with cropped trousers and a top. Pref all white or all navy. What brands are best for my age and the situation please and where from?

why can't you wear shoes ? I wear loafers a bit and I work in logistics so am on my feet a bit ( don't have to wear safety shoes ) have a fab pair of ballerinas from mint velvet in leopard print. i go for Spanish brands nice leather wears well paul green. I also have golden goose a fab pair of glitter ones they jazz up a boring outfit of black trousers and white shirt. I personally wouldn't wear sketchers to my work and detest sambas

Air Force ones are good for looking good and fresh.

Letsnotupsettheapplecart · 30/08/2025 19:50

Depends on budget but Air & Grace every time!

The fit flop Mary Janes are super comfy. Mine are silver, love them.

I hate Mary Janes but I've just bought the Fitflop ones with the sparkly buckle and I love them. I didn't expect them to be so comfortable as they have a thin sole.

Driftingawaynow · 30/08/2025 20:11

A lot if these shoes look like they have no arch support and/or thick soles that don’t flex with the foot. My Podiatrist told me years ago to buy asics running trainers, that’s the only thing I wear now, they are always very comfortable. A lot of the colours are completely mental but you can get all white ones.

How do you find the sizing? I'm thinking about ordering the plain ones, minus the sparkly buckle, but have small, narrow feet which are a pain to get shoes for.

I love the smart adidas suede pumps.

I found these came up slightly smaller than other Fitflops. I'm usually a 6 or 6.5 but needed a 7 in these. I would say my feet are regular width and they are snug. Not tight, but definitely not loose.

veja white trainers will be a go to for a lot of people.

I have feet issues, you mentioned plantar fascitis - I where kimmie courts from vionics for work.

Would recommend the Nike P6000 trainers. Get them directly from Nike. There’s white/beige ones on their website

Jok77 · 30/08/2025 20:19

Have a look at a brand called Waldlaufer. They're extremely comfortable but look smart. Ive got collapsed arches and the inbuilt arch support really helps. They do shoes, boots, trainers, sandals...

Thank you. I've never tried Fitflops before.

I’ve had plantar fasciitis flare ups in recent years and can confirm Adidas trainers make it worse, have gradually got rid of my seven pairs with great reluctance but I’d avoid them if I were you.

Also surprised so many people are questioning OP’s choice, she’s made the choice that she would like some trainers not for lots of people to tell her to get loafers instead.

Im currently favouring Skechers zinger in black with the gummed front sole- not all Skechers are created equal though and some make my feet worse so choose carefully.

TheGirlattheBack · 30/08/2025 20:30

Another vote for Air and Grace - so comfy.

Adidas are pretty flat inside, not ideal for arch support which OP probably needs for plantars. I wear them but need those arch insoles to make them comfortable.

Have you tried the Spezials? Those have some arch support. I bought a bunch of the suede ones recently to wear to work and they’re ridiculously comfortable.

citychick · 30/08/2025 20:46

I wear World secret trainers.
They are expensive, but beautifully made and I also suffer from PF and don't need my orthotics when I wear these.

I was wearing asics but my toe has poked a hole and i decided i wanted something smarter. I’ll probably end up going back to them and attempting to stitch the hole up! A running shop recommended them to me

I wore ASICS for ages after I broke my foot but I've now switched to Brooks Ghost. They're not as bulky as my asics which I'm happy about but they are extremely comfortable and supportive

WinterRoad · 30/08/2025 21:13

I'm in my 60s and wear these all the time. Loads of colours and very comfy.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 30/08/2025 21:18

I’ve just bought two pairs of these (white and maroon) for work. I have woeful PF.
Not as good as Brooks trainers but smartish and don’t leave me crippled by the end of the day

Crategate · 30/08/2025 21:18

I have Skechers 'zinger' trainers in black for work. They are very comfy and have not stained etc in over a year. I would personally avoid anything white because they look awful after a few wears if you have to walk for your commute

OffToSeaInABlizzard · 30/08/2025 06:53

Why can’t you wear shoes? I cannot see how trainers will be ‘best for the situation’ - particularly as they’re not your habitual work wear.

(Unless, of course, you’ll be involved in some sports or children’s activities during the conference? In which case you could change out of your shoes for the activity.)

I am perfectly well aware that trainers are mainstream footwear. That isn’t the point, though.

Plantar Fasciitis is why. It’s painful and by the end of the day you’re in agony. I could hardly walk.

With this condition you have to have supportive and comfortable shoes with cushioning if you’re going to be on your feet.

Ohnobackagain · 30/08/2025 21:35

@Alwayssupportingdifference Adidas Spezial. So many colours to choose from and each retailer has an exclusive colour way you can’t get elsewhere. Or Gazelle or Samba. Spezial
is the narrowest of them.
