What has worked for your ageing face?!

At 42, I feel like the skin on my face is ageing rapidly. What creams/potions/treatments have you tried that have really worked to make you look less wrinkled/tired/dead? I have had Botox before but it wears off so quickly.

Skinbunny is brilliant for under eye bags.

I find something like this is useful (but not in Banks).

Same age, my skin felt awful at the start of the year and managed to turn my skin around since - Hyaluronic acid (cheap as chips one from Boots) and vitamin C are the main skincare products having an effect as I have focused on hydration rather than anti-wrinkle, and laid off the actives like retinol to repair my skin barrier. I have actually started using cheaper/more basic products and seem an improvement.
I have also been using creatine and collagen supplements (it’s a freesoul powder with other vitamins etc specifically for women).
I did get a few hydrofacials and Botox, but they are more the cherry on the than a fix.

I’’m going to sound very boring and like my mum but in my view expensive snake oil lotions and potions are not going to do anything, they just smell nice and look good on your dresser. And I’m not sure it’s a great idea to make an habit of injecting toxins into your body or to use strong chemicals for the sake of vanity. Find a healthy, simple skincare routine then don’t think too much about it, smile and get on with your life.

You need a great diet, no (maybe a little) booze or fags, lots of opportunities to feel happy and calm (those are the prettiest faces), fresh air, exercise and to avoid the strong sun (and wear sun protection in sunny places.) I know that lots of people have Botox and fillers, and on the whole they look smoother and puffier (often a lot puffier!) but not younger, healthier and fresher.

Monthly facials, expensive skincare and a nighttime routine. Who knows if it works or not but my skin definitely feels better for it.

Also drinking more water but then I end up wanting the bathroom constantly which is a pain.

Thingyfanding · 29/08/2025 07:15

I’ve found using vitamin c in the morning and rosehip oil at night to be very effective.
a lot of people wlll advise to use retinol/retinal and tret (not together) and it’s very effective and the evidence is there to back it up. however, you can damage your skin barrier and if you aren’t consistent with you sun protection, it can do more harm than good.
rosehip oil is very high in vitamin A - similar to retinol, but keeps my skin very supple and doesn’t dry it out. I also have a green smoothie every day and wear a factor 50 on my face neck and chest.
I also use nip and fab glycolic acid once a week to exfoliate.

Im off for a facelift in March and laser resurfacing. I've heard the laser is amazing.
Botox is great too. It gets rid of the deep lines between my eyebrows that used to make me look cross all the time.

piscofrisco · 29/08/2025 07:24

Botox. Tiny amount. Makes a huge difference .

BlueEyedBogWitch · 29/08/2025 07:24

Botox.

Dermatica.

Vitamin E oil.

Factor 50 every day.

No alcohol.

cocolemonn · 29/08/2025 07:26

Botox, spf and tret.

CeciliaDuckiePond · 29/08/2025 07:37

Giving up alcohol - not why I did it, but it's a bonus effect. A few people have actually commented I look younger, and I wasn't a particularly heavy drinker - a bottle of wine at weekends, very rarely drank in the week.

isitmytime · 29/08/2025 07:43

42 here. Collagen supplements for the last 5-8 years I can’t really remember when I started them.
Botox twice a year
skin and me subscription for tretinoin
snail mucin products; cleanser, toner, serum, moisturiser.

my skin is pretty good it’s hydrated, smooth and plump

AthenaWhite · 29/08/2025 07:43

Foreo bear

I'm 41 and have had botox 3 times and I'm questioning if I'll bother again. I found it so anxiety-inducing last time, waiting for the 2 weeks to see if any ptosis appeared. And because I do so much exercise, the effects of the botox have fully worn off after about 6 weeks.

I'm going to try to use frownies/ smoothies and see if they suffice.

What I have been impressed by is moisturising my face with castor oil at night. I've been doing it for about 2 years and my skin is so soft and glowing. It's called "nature's botox" as it makes your skin so soft that it struggles to hold a wrinkle.

Can I ask where you are having your facelift done?

What vit c do you use? I'm going to look into rose hip oil!

How much do you use? Where exactly on your face? And how much it is? I'm 40, no wrinkles yet just when smiling and I wonder if i should start doing it..

PurpleSocks37 · 29/08/2025 07:57

OP I use tretinoin, I'm 40 with no wrinkles. I think ill start using botox soon too.

Let me guess… this looks so effective, I won’t be able to afford it 😂

FatLarrysBanned · 29/08/2025 08:04

I'm 50 and getting my first Botox and filler today, I've been thinking about it for about 3 years so not a rushed decision.

I've spent so much on skin care, been consistent with it, don't drink, don't smoke, SPF 50 every day for years and still my face has started to sag and my cheeks mounds have split so I have a horizontal line across them. As the great Dolly says "Time marches on honey, and eventually it marches right over your face".

Will report back later.

whatsit84 · 29/08/2025 08:04

Botox but exercise seems to make mine wear off quickly! Decent skin care routine with vitamin C for radiance, Sun protection (separate not just moisturiser with SPF) good night cream. Drink lots of liquids. I follow Caroline Hirons skincare book for routine. Seems like a lot of steps but it doesn’t take long and I enjoy it.
