Thanks both. Looks like the Cartier completely sold out so I shall just have an hour in the V&A itself, concentrating on the jewellery!

You'll have a great time! Love the V&A.

I just joined so that I could see the Cartier exhibition next weekend.

Edward and Sophie look great there, especially the suit on him. So often his suits age him IMO but that one is very dapper.

Cassiope · 19/09/2025 19:38

Letizia's white dress from Day 1 is wonderful. The skirt has plenty of volume, but what I love is that the whole dress seems to be cutwork embroidery - a large floral design. If I'm right then real artistry went into creating it. The effect is so simple, so un-blingy, yet absolutely beautiful.

(I don't know much about embroidery, but my great grandma had some table cloths decorated with embroidery like this appears to be: small shapes cut out of the fabric to create the design, with the cut edges finished like buttonholes. I can't remember seeing anything that looked similar before.)

There is a Marie Antoinette exhibition opening tomorrow at the V&A. I think it’s mainly clothing rather than jewellery and a lot of it is contemporaneous to Marie Antoinette rather than exclusively her clothes, but looks interesting nonetheless see here

Edward does indeed look dapper in the single breasted suit.

We met him at the palace for my son’s DofE presentation and he was absolutely swamped by a dreadful double breasted affair.

Well I'd rehouse Sophie and Edward, they just need somewhere to lay their head when in town.

I think Edward had the apartment before marriage, I think all of the Queen's kids did. A few years ago Andrew had apartments and offices at BP but not anymore.

I suspect there will be a big move around in the next few years. Will Camilla still want CH without Charles? At the moment the Duke of Kent lives in Wren Cottage next door to Nottingham Cottage at KP - but he turns 90 soon.

I think BP is going to be phased out as a residence as no one really wants to live there - so I think State events at Windsor will become the norm - perhaps why Will and Kate are buying a permanent home there

Choux · 19/09/2025 20:35

Unfortunately Edward packed more than one suit.

Sophie looks neat and suitably conservative for Japan. I don’t think we will see anything exciting while she is there.

These outfits are for a banquet - not a state banquet though. Neither man is well dressed - mismatched jacket and trousers and too long trousers on JD Vance.

Princess Rajwa’s asymmetrical hemline is not asymmetrical enough to look intentional. It really looks like it’s caught in her belt. Usha outfit is very simple and low key but well executed.

Gah! The double breasted horror. 😂

Maireas · 19/09/2025 20:52

Usha looks nice, very elegant. Rajwa's dress would be better with out the asymmetry.
Sophie looks nice again, shame Edward has gone back to the bad suit.

I like both of Sophie's dresses - very nice. Usha's outfit is lovely too.

God, Felipe dresses beautifully.

And Princess Grace was just so stunning.

deeahgwitch · 19/09/2025 21:31

I think in the last two photos of Sophie posted, her dresses needed to be taken up an inch or so.

Is it just me or does that sporran look a bit … er…dodgy?!

Choux · 20/09/2025 10:52

Do you think those are the flowers the Trumps laid on QEII tomb? I can’t think of any other time they would have been needed.

No, he laid a wreath at the late Queen’s tomb. Maybe those are flowers presented to Melania when they arrived at the castle? They would have been in the way for standing on the dais 🤷‍♀️

Princess Marie went to a reception at the Danish Embassy in Washington. I like her dress but the shoes look so high - they are wrinkling her feet and her toe ‘cleavage’ is showing. I can’t imagine they are comfortable.

Maireas · 20/09/2025 17:06

That is a really pretty dress. Royal ladies will not be parted from their stilettos.

RomainingCalm · 20/09/2025 17:40

Goodness me, those shoes look painful. 😩 Very pretty dress though.

SqueakyDinosaur · 20/09/2025 18:35

I'd like the dress better if it were longer, but then I'm that rare bird who likes Sophie and Kate's almost ankle-length dresses!

But yes, I just look at shoes like that and think WHY???
