Do you wear mascara on bottom lashes?

I did for years until a few days ago as there is always mascara under my eyes and I really like the look of it without it! Does anyone else not wear it on bottom lashes?

No, it accentuates the dark circles. Haven’t done it since I was in my early 20’s.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/08/2025 08:35

No, top only.

KitsyWitsy · 24/08/2025 08:36

No, it's not the done thing anymore.

dollyblue01 · 24/08/2025 08:36

I get mine tinted so I don’t have to wear mascara on the bottom, just top only.

WaitWhatWhatWait · 24/08/2025 08:38

Yes, but I don't go by what's "in fashion", I go by what suits me.

MaJoady · 24/08/2025 08:38

Both depending on what I feel like.

Without is more casual summer day makeup to me. Tend to do it on both in winter or evenings.

Although a strong lip colour can look really cool with only top lashes, looks a bit less "done", but I usually CBA with the upkeep of the lipstick

FourEyesGood · 24/08/2025 08:39

Never - only on the top.

CarefulN0w · 24/08/2025 08:40

Yes. I look dog tired if I don’t. And to be honest, I’d rather be unfashionable than look worn out. Also, tubing mascara doesn’t smudge, so why wouldn’t I?

Shudacudawuda · 24/08/2025 08:41

No, I sometimes use a tiny bit of eyeliner though, right on the lash line

realslimshade · 24/08/2025 08:42

Yes or it looks odd as my lashes are v pale

StressedOot3 · 24/08/2025 08:45

Only if I'm going out somewhere and therefore doing a smokey eye, otherwise I think without shadow smudged underneath it looks a bit daft, on me personally.

I've actually stopped wearing make up alot of the time day to day these days. Im in the office two days a week and I'd say 50% of the time don't even bother wearing make up. I worked in cosmetics for years and had to wear so much make up I got fed up with it.

Ever read a thread that rocks the foundations of your entire world?

This is that thread for me?

It has never in my whole long life occurred to me not to put mascara on my lower lashes!

What? What is happening here? I’m shook.

Brbreeze · 24/08/2025 08:46

I have never put it on my bottom lashes.

Noshadelamp · 24/08/2025 08:48

Haven't worn mascara on my lower lashes for years, suits my eye shadow so much better.

FrostyMorn · 24/08/2025 08:48

No. Even the slightest smudge makes me look really tired as it accentuates my dark circles. But for people who are lucky enough not to have dark circles or bags I can see it could work

Saeurcat · 24/08/2025 08:50

Yes but only if I’m wearing tubing mascara so it doesn’t smudge

GoodVibesHere · 24/08/2025 08:52

I've only ever worn it on my top lashes

devildeepbluesea · 24/08/2025 08:53

Yes. I’ve big, almond shaped eyes and it accentuates them

gingercat02 · 24/08/2025 08:55

Yes because although I have really long lashes they are virtually transparent. I get them tinted sometimes but it only lasts a week maybe 2 at best.
It's not the done thing made me laugh @KitsyWitsy, like it's etiquette 🤣 it's not farting in public!

Arlanymor · 24/08/2025 09:01

Top only, which I think is more from habit than anything else. Plus if I accidentally rub my eyes (hay fever) I am more likely to rub the underside of my eye socket if that makes sense?

All that said I am very tempted to get my make up done properly - i.e. consultation with what colours work best, maybe a bold go at a smoky eye for the first time in my life - so we'll see how that goes. Planning on getting it done for my birthday in February when I'll be in Cardiff. Maybe at Charlotte Tilbury in John Lewis...

Not to say I don't wear make up - I do, daily, mainly tinted moisturiser, felt eye liner, mascara (top only!), eyebrow definer and sometimes a nude barely there shimmer eyeshadow.

Coconutter24 · 24/08/2025 09:02

I always wore it on my bottom lashes, then 2 years ago I stopped wearing it because I had it in my head I was looking like I had dark circles (I didn’t now looking back) so I thought to make myself seem brighter under the eye I’ll not use anything like mascara or liner plus I had a little bump/cyst or something on lower lash. Then a few months ago I thought my eyes look better with the mascara and not wearing any didn’t clear the bump so I’ve started again

GrumpyExpat · 24/08/2025 09:02

Never. I have dark circles, it’s too much.

JoeTheDrummer · 24/08/2025 09:03

I do, but I just sort of dab the mascara wand on them gently, so they only get a small amount.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 24/08/2025 09:04

I can’t make it look right. My bottom lashes are long but a bit sparse, so I end up looking like an Aunt Sally doll.

OhDorWheresthesalad · 24/08/2025 09:05

Depends what I'm doing makeup wise, if I've got a lot of makeup on it helps it look more 'finished' on me. Day to day, never.
