Wedding guest shoes that's not heels or open toes?

Would a shoe like this be good for a wedding guest? Will be wearing likely a formal casual dress, likely long.

I don't like heels or open toe shoes or sandals.

I’ve just bought some dance wear jazz shoes from Freed for a wedding later this month. They are soft, flat, comfortable and elegant.

LegoHouse274 · 16/08/2025 10:44

They're fine. Id associate them more with a work environment being honest, but they're smart and absolutely still fine for a wedding.

Dryshampoofordays · 16/08/2025 10:45

They look too office wear to me.

PinkTonic · 16/08/2025 10:48

It’s not about are the shoes suitable for a wedding it’s do they go with the outfit. The shoes are smart but would go with a work type dress or trousers. They don’t go with a party type dress or summer dress. You could find some nice flats which are more dressy

BlackberryPickingRetriever · 16/08/2025 10:52

Too clunky and ‘workwear’ I think. But at a wedding comfort is key to be honest!

Chewbecca · 16/08/2025 10:53

They look very office-like (or even school) and not very wedding-y to me. Mainly because they're black. What colour is your dress?

There are lots of 'pointed flats' around this season which look wedding appropriate, like these.

I’d be looking for some fancy flats, sparkly/embroidered/beaded- or some plain ones in a lighter colour.

Pinklittlebaby · 16/08/2025 10:57

Thanks for the replies.

How about these shoes? Would these be suitable?

Or if I find this shoe in a silver or gold?

I don't have a dress yet. I will likely get a green dress. I am looking between to different dresses. A dark green and a paler green.

Or I might get a black dress or a black floral dress.

I think life is easier if you choose the dress first, then shoes.

Pinklittlebaby · 16/08/2025 11:06

These are a selection of dresses I like

Two other dresses that I like.

My favourite of all these is the white and blue but I don't know if that's suitable.

I like the blue and white one too. Especially if you have a bit of a tan / are not too pale skinned. It would look nice with silver pointed flats. Not with the black or beige ballet clomps, sorry. I would want cool toned shoes with that dress.

I do love that dress. I don't tan or wear fake tan. I likely won't buy that dress. If that dress was a black with the blue design on it, I would buy it. I think I will elimate that one.

What size are you, @Pinklittlebaby?

I’d say your selection suggests you’re feeling a bit lost? Some of those dresses would be a total waste of money at this stage of the year - and others don’t seem great value for money for other reasons - but it does depend on how much choice you have with regard to sizes.

Of those you’ve shown I would strongly recommend the Yours London Emerald green frock. (Though maybe with a cotton slip underneath as it’s polyester.) It’s simple, smart and relatively sophisticated - and importantly will work for autumn and winter evenings and gatherings. (The black also.) The printed dresses look cheap and fussy and won’t take you into autumn. The sequinned dresses are horribly dated. And the white would be better for a holiday.

If you were to choose the green, there’s an infinity of reasonably dressy flat shoes available. Black loafers aren’t really smart wedding wear.

Bailiwitch · 16/08/2025 12:26

Btw what does formal casual mean?!

MrsMoastyToasty · 16/08/2025 12:32

How about something a bit more out there like a brogue with a leopard print? Or a closed toe espadrille?

The black shoes won't go with these. There are plenty of lovely flat sling backs in lighter colours like cream or beige out there. Those shoes would only really go with a trouser suit.

Gettingbysomehow · 16/08/2025 17:24

If you must wear loafers Clarkes have plenty of cream and white summery ones in normal and wide.

I found other shoes, like hotter ballerina shoes.

I don't have time to really care about fashion and spring and summer and winter styles. I just find what I like and might agree with me. I have vivid purple hair so it's hard. I am plus size, 20.

I do like the green dress.

We used to call them ‘court shoes’ back in 1978! Enclosed, low heel but upper foot revealing. Shoes you could dance in. But, sadly, also run in..

Ballerinas kill my feet, I bought some half size wide ones from Clarkes and although they fit fine my feet really ache by the end of the day. I wear loafers a lot but have summer cream ones too.

Pinklittlebaby · 17/08/2025 10:26

How about these shoes-ballerina style? It looks like they have somewhat of a thick sole? These would be somewhat supportive for a day. What do you think?
