Items you have ordered recently that were a ridiculously bad fit

Just a bit of a rant as I currently have a number of items to pack and return - all things I had such high hopes for!

An M&S stretchy sleeveless column dress - such a bad cut - a kind of figure 8 shape that was so gapy at the top that even if I had a really large bust the fabric under the arms would still stick out.

A Jaeger boxy linen jacket - I waited and waited for my size to come back into stock. It could have been perfect - a cropped black linen jacket - but it was just too boxy with darts in the wrong place. And the linen was kind of stiff.

A Sezane dress for my older teen dd - a knitted fitted dress with long sleeves. Fabric was not at all what we expected - £125 for thin tshirt fabric! And even though dd has a slim hour glass figure, it was just wrong in every way - her size was tight across the chest (even though she is a b cup) but there was all this excess fabric sticking out from her hips! I don’t think it would fit anyone.

so frustrating…

Speedo swimsuit

Looked like I was trying to conceal a bag of ferrets about my person. Utterly depressing….

Gettingbysomehow · 10/08/2025 17:05

😂I only wear board shorts with tankini tops these days.

A horrible pink jacket from New Look, it said size 14 on the label, on me it looked at least three sizes bigger. It was just hanging off and the sleeves were at my fingertips.

Crojo · 10/08/2025 18:29

Lightweight jeans from Long Tall Sally.
Huge on the waist, snug on the bum and the length is just comical. I am very long legged and always have to buy extra long length bottoms, but these have about 6 inches excess length even on me!
Currently trying to work out the complicated paperless returns process and realised you have to pay to return as well. I won’t be ordering again.

SoManyDandelions · 10/08/2025 20:24

A dress from Dorothy Perkins. It hung down much lower on one side. It made me look like a badly dressed toddler.

A jumpsuit from Brakeburn. It was stupidly tight across the chest (I'm so flat chested I don't even need a bra) with loads of excess material bunched around the waist. And it stank of fish!!

Ordered a pair of cargo trousers, loved the look of them. Ordered a size 16 because I wanted them slightly baggy. Looks like DD36 is going to get them. She’s a size 6/8!

Pinepeak2434 · 11/08/2025 00:40

Zara jeans - awful fit every single pair I ordered came up really small but with a sagging crutch area.

minipie · 11/08/2025 00:51

Pretty much everything from Sezane and Hush.

I am small and short, and have come to realise these shops make for giants.

minipie · 11/08/2025 00:52

Oh and ordered some New Look trousers - in one style I was a size 10, in another style a size 6.

I have 2 newish pairs of Zara jeans which look great but had to try on about 10 pairs to get them, and every pair fit differently. I will only buy from them when I can go in person. The two I bought are not the same size - one my regular and one a size smaller so the opposite experience to yours - and one pair is much longer than the other.

My most recent gripe is with Uniqlo. I do love them and buy a lot there but they are taking 'oversized' and 'boxy' to a new level lately. I'm an Amazon woman and now buying M and sometimes S - god knows how petite women are getting on there.

I ordered a strappy summer top from Next. Very floaty. I got a size 12.
My bra size is 34B. A size 12 should've been fine.
I swear to God it wouldn't have fit a child.. yet just round the neck! The rest of the top was voluminous! Just bizarrely narrow at the neck. I'm not broad shouldered or anything. I really wonder who that was supposed to fit?

I got some Christmas pjs from next in a size up as I like my pjs baggy
couldnt get my head through the neck hole
I don’t have a comically huge head, honest!

EmeraldRoulette · 11/08/2025 01:38

Oh my God, the oversize thing

A jacket from Uniqlo with stupidly long sleeves. I mean, even if I were 6 inches taller, those sleeves would be too long.

it's a really well-made jacket, but it's not the kind where you can just roll up the sleeves and it still look okay. So I suppose it has to go back which is really annoying. Alternative is to take it to a tailor.

As so many places are doing this now, I do wonder if that will be a good idea.

Maybe there's a designer at Next with a really tiny head trying to take it out on the world!

hellswelshy · 11/08/2025 15:00

A gorgeous linen blend dress from Uniqlo. Had a very tight band under the chest with no give that didn't seem to match the rest of the dress sadly. It just needed a bit of elastic and it would have been perfect 😥

henlake7 · 11/08/2025 15:52

I found a really nice dress in Primark recently with a shirred bodice that made my waist and boobs look amazing....
unfortunately it had quite wide armholes and all my armpit fat just splurged out the sides.😬

Newmeagain · 11/08/2025 17:00

Thank you for sharing! At least we can try to laugh about it…

Me too @minipie
But Sezane has become a bit rubbish anyway.

I ordered a set from I want That Trend via FB (I know)
I am a size 14/16 and 5ft 4. I ordered a 16/18 and its snug but still wearable but the top is almost cropped and the trousers are above my calves. If I move my knickers are visible at the back

Passthecake30 · 11/08/2025 17:20

A size 10 linen beach shirt from Next, I know they are meant to fit loose but it would have easily fit someone who was a size 20.

LlamaNoDrama · 11/08/2025 17:21

A jersey vest top from next. You wouldnt think you can far wrong with a basic £8 top but there's so much excess fabric from the side of my bust to the armpit it's unwearable and I'm a GG cup!

whiteroseredrose · 11/08/2025 17:22

Two dresses from Lintico in the same size. One wouldn’t fasten across my chest, the other one was huuuuge.

Love this description! 😂

A Cos jumper size S. Could hardly get my head through, but it swam on the rest of my size 12 body.

MaryTheTurtle · 11/08/2025 18:05

2 radiator covers. Always wanted them, measures and yet they are too small to fit anywhere. The one I built is at the back of the sofa the other still in the Argos box.
