I've been using NUXE body oil balm & love it but it is out of stock everywhere (not sure if they have discontinued it). Please can I have your body moisturiser recommendations?

Neutrogena, moisturises really well.

I prefer a clean/neutral scent that won't conflict with my perfume.

Yay!! I honestly don’t think you’ll regret it. I just finished Moroccan oil’s body lotion and the Vaseline one is by far superior! Let us know how you get on!

Will do !

I've never heard of yuka app - is it a reliable source (i.e. backed with clinical research/evidence) or scare-mongering?

It’s a source and it’s come in for criticism. They list the bad things first but you’d need to be using the item to the extreme for the products to have a negative effect on you.

Lushvegetation · 02/08/2025 20:57

What criticism?

LucieChardon · 02/08/2025 23:00

I've recently started using the Yuka app, i see no harm in trying to reduce "the wrong sort" of chemicals had I apply to my body. Even if it's in relative small amounts.

I'm slowly switching over to "safer" products.

I'm also looking for a good body moisturiser. I've been using CeRave which I've enjoyed (scent free, my skin doesn't react to it) but Yuka rates it poorly. I'll be trying Cetaphil next, hoping it will suit me and Yuka says it's excellent.

Another vote for Vaseline intensive care aloe

https://www.ocado.com/products/vaseline-intensive-care-aloe-soothe-body-lotion/262058011

£3.75 for 400ml

This is my go-to body lotion as well, brilliant stuff.

love this idea - where do you get it?

Just that it lists the ingredients and yes, some do have negative effects if over used. However, the quantity in any over the counter is minuscule and will not affect you.
This works leg oil is amazing.

I think the Vaseline Gluta Hya is excellent, I’ve got all three variants, I love the night time one especially. They are easily absorbed, smell really fresh (not fruity or sweet) and I think are about £8 each.

Do they all smell the same @Rina66?
I didn’t like the smell of the one in the pink tube.

Aveeno Creamy Oil

I agree- it smells lovely too, almondy but not too sweet.

Organic coconut oil is bar far the best for my skin, and is totally natural and cruelty free. I use it all over and am often complimented on my skin!

@Mumofyellows please can I ask what brand of coconut oil you use and do you use it on your face too?

Greenwriter76 · 05/08/2025 19:42

Palmers Cocoa Butter oil or lotion.
Boots Aftersun lotion leaves my skin so soft and eases shaving irritation etc.

I used to use Vaseline lotion and now am craving some after all the reccs here.

deeahgwitch · 05/08/2025 20:51

Palmers Coconut Body lotion is gorgeous as is their Coconut Hand Cream.
I really dislike the scent of their Cocoa one.

@sofaRunner It’s reliable in that all it’s doing is a run down of a product’s ingredients, with red orange and green flags on ingredients labelling type of risk, details on the risk level and what it does, which countries regulate or ban it (and which don’t) and a list of scientific sources for each. I’m quite sure it’s not an altruistic app, but I have overhauled everything I was willing to. It does food too, but then flats things that are high in fat etc which is less helpful, as I use it for chemicals and additives.

@PeonyPatch I don’t actually think that I can’t conceive because of chemicals, but I am very cautious of reducing my chemical burden. Been ttc around 4 years inc two miscarriages and 3 failed ivf cycles, so in my case every teeny step I can take towards a healthy pregnancy I’m taking. That’s like… no makeup or perfume or anything (but I’ll never stop moisturising hah). When you go for embryo transfer you’re not allowed to wear any products, nail polish, smelly shampoo… just it being in the room can damage the embryo. That’s not an ipso facto but it feels significant.

Sorry because this is slightly off topic. What clinic has told you that? Its absolutely not true. I've been through (successful) IVF and worked with clinics and this is the first time I've heard anything like that. Nothing wrong with avoiding stuff if you want to but there is no damage to embryos because you wore nail varnish. That's ludicrous.

caringcarer · 07/08/2025 23:11

I just use Dove. It's got moisturising cream in it.

Obviously toxic ingredients are absorbed through the skin and into the bloodstream eventually. Under the armpits for example is an area which is particularly vulnerable as it is absorbed into the lymphatic system. Endocrine disruptors are in so many products that we use daily. Formaldehyde is used in nail varnish. It’s not something that should be used on the body at all. Links to cancer from toxic ingredients in toiletries, make up and household products have been known about for decades.

As long as it’s organic it doesn’t matter . You can use it on face and body
as well as hair .

The issue is no one really knows what the safe levels are. Not really.

ZiggyZowie · 07/08/2025 23:21

Nivea rich moisturising lotion is only 94 p per 100 ml on Amazon

I got 2 large 400ml bottles for just under £8 which is good value and it is effective with a pleasant smell.

That's not an answer to my question at all. Not all nail varnishes contain formaldehyde. The evidence around endocrine disrupters are far from conclusive - I'm not saying there isn't an effect just that is far from the clear cut conclusion you have drawn. Talc for example which has been shown to have conclusive links to cancer is not because it's an endocrine disruptor but because it is mined where there is asbestos present, a substance which in known to cause cancer (and it's absorbed through our skin, we breathe it in).

Be careful using it on your face, coconut oil is comedegenic (blocks pores which can lead to acne) and can be an irritant for some people. I would do test patches before using it on your face.

And organic doesn't equal safe and good as Lushvegetation is making out, it's a massive over simplification. I suggest doing some independent research
