La Marey Python Handbag - what am I not getting here?

Ok so I received this bag for Christmas from my MIL - immediately hated it and was shocked to see how much it cost when I looked it up online (though, TBF, she is normally a generous gifter but I just thought this was so ugly, it had to be cheap 🙈).

Mine is actually uglier than the web page shows - it's a rainbow effect colour that was on there around Christmas but now seems to be sold out.

I was going to stick it on Vinted but the few I see on there are listed at under a fiver. eBay is better with some listed around the £100 mark but when I filter for completed listings, they're not selling at that price.

So what am I missing here? Why are these bags so expensive new but with zero resale value? Has my poor MIL in fact been scammed?

That is the most hideous bag I've seen in a long time. It sounds like its made from real snake skin. If that's the case then it adds another layer of ugly to the product, just awful. I'd get rid if it asap and wouldn't be bothered about getting any money for it either.

Not a scam but tv showing channels have huge mark ups on so called luxe bags. It's a fugly Kelly inspired bag. I would be rehoming that if your MIL won't take offence. There aren't many brands which hold their value for resale.

synthetic swede lining - perhaps she really likes it, perhaps you could ask if she would use it as you won’t?

I think that website is attractive to the older generation and that is why they sell at inflated prices. Women who like QVC etc.

Yep awful, a dupe of a Hermes Kelly, but a very bad one. It has no value. Tell your MIL you lost it and have a drink with the fiver you get on Vinted. Sorry to be blunt.

It's really awful, and god knows why there are so many close ups on the website, because the stitching and finish is dreadful, even in the photos.

Thanks for giving me a laugh everyone and for confirming that the bag is indeed horrific on every level. MIL would be distraught if she thought I didn't like it - she's very sensitive about such things and is so lovely I don't want to upset her.

I'll take it to a charity shop far, far away (so she doesn't spot it).

I think we can all agree, my colourway is even more ugly...

Oh I think the rainbow one is nicer! A bit less tacky - the all grey one looks like really cheap leopard print. Poor skilled artisans being forced to make that. If you take it to a charity shop (and they don't google it to find out the original price) I think it'll be snapped up!

Yes, drive a long distance and give it to a charity shop. My sister gave me the most god awful multi coloured LV bag which cost a lot and looks like it was designed by an 8 year old girl on sherbet dabs. This is worse.

Laughing so much at synthetic vegetables and pretty shocked that the bag costs this much but has synthetic 'swede' in the first place but equally no one capable of proof reading the website!!
