Has anyone regretted Botox?

Hi,

45yrs old and first time botox appointment is booked for next week. The injector is a dentist with many years experience, she's done other cosmetic work for me, just not this. She recommended forehead, crowsfeet and in the middle of eyes. My eyes are a little hooded so I was worried about heaviness, so she's going to go light in the forehead

I'm so jittery about it now it's getting closer. What if I get ptosis or a wonky face, I also don't want to be frozen, just gently more refreshed!

Just started a new job so I'm treating myself with the first extra pay. But also if it goes wrong I will have zero confidence in this new job facing all these new colleagues

Has it gone wrong for anyone here? Has anyone regretted it?

Dentists all the way.

I haven’t had it for a year due to cost and my forehead still doesn’t crinkle a lot of the time, like right now I’m trying to do it and I can’t! I didn’t realise it could last this long

Going to a dentist for Botox instead of a board-certified dermatologist is like hiring a plumber to rewire your house.

Yes, both work on things related to your home (or in this case, your face), but a plumber is trained in pipes and water systems, not the intricate electrical wiring behind your walls. Similarly, a dentist may be familiar with some facial anatomy, but a dermatologist is the true expert in skin, facial muscles, nerves and the deeper structures involved in cosmetic treatments like Botox.

Dermatologists train for years specifically on how the skin works, how it ages, and how to safely inject substances like Botox to avoid complications and get natural results. Trusting anyone else is taking a risk you don’t need to take, especially when it comes to your face.

LostVagueness25 · 24/07/2025 21:44

I had it once, aged 40 and although the doctor who did it was very experienced and didn’t do anything ‘wrong’, I didn’t like it as it made me just not look like me anymore. Wouldn’t do it again but you live and you learn. I’m kind of glad I didn’t like it as it’s a lot of money to keep shelling out every 3 months!

Mamabear487 · 24/07/2025 22:26

First time I got it done I loved it, second I had way too many units and I looked frozen but it wore off after 8-10 weeks. 3rd time I told my lady I wanted less units more subtle and it was perfect and I keep going back. Don’t regret it at all even if I was frozen for 2 months we got there in the end 😂

Judiezones · 24/07/2025 22:48

Not me, my cousin. She's been having botox for a few years from a dentist. Last time he injected too near a nerve involved in tears. Her eye ran and ran like she was constantly crying from one eye. She had to visit the eye hospital in a nearby city but there was little they could do. Eventually it went back to normal. I never felt the urge to try but seeing her would have put me off anyway, it was awful. The bruises after each treatment were bad enough.

Everybodysinthehousetonight · 24/07/2025 22:53

I've been getting it for 20 years, no problems. He does have to go light on my forehead now as I'm older.

Starsabovemee · 24/07/2025 23:14

Never, I love it and have it probably every 6months.

SENNeeds2 · 24/07/2025 23:16

I had a green peel in my late 30s - it literally wiped out all my forehead wrinkles and almost 20 years later they are still not back. I would try that before botox.

pinkdelight · 24/07/2025 23:28

My friend had it and fillers in her early 50s and she looks weird to me. I haven’t say anything and whatever makes her happy is fine, but she looked better without it, just how she was.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 24/07/2025 23:38

I wouldn't have said so at the time, I was always really happy with the results though I did have a couple of unpleasant sessions whether it either hurt an unreasonable amount or left bruising.

I stopped a couple of years ago (now 53) because of the cost, and I was obviously aging elsewhere on my face and neck so the smooth botoxed parts were looking incongruous - it was either stop completely or get on the slippery slope of having other work done.

But I'm now looking back on photos from the last 10 years and can see I did look a bit off, especially holiday photos where botox would have been freshly done. My brows looked heavy and I looked puffy and - just weird and unnatural, really - compared to before and after.

So I think it's fine in your 40s but you do need to keep an eye on it and not go overboard or for too long.

Liliwen · 25/07/2025 00:09

I have it done by a fantastic practitioner and don’t regret it. I’m 38 and she does it so there is still a little bit of movement so I’m not frozen. I find my brows can look heavy for the first couple of weeks but it wears off before too long. I love the smoothness of my forehead with the Botox. My wrinkles were pretty bad and my make up would collect in the creases. I don’t have to have as much now or as often because I’ve been having it regularly

I did once go to a friend who is a nurse who does Botox. That was a mistake. She made me look like Spock. It took about 2 months before I could raise my eyebrows and not look insane. So choose wisely. Make sure you know this dentist is skilled at what they do.

Henry8thHoover · 25/07/2025 03:59

I regret that it doesn’t last long and that it gives me a headache for 2-3 weeks afterwards.

CoffeeandWalnuts · 25/07/2025 07:16

Your replies are so useful thank you. Quite a mixed bag of experiences though. I've postponed it for now and will have a proper think about it.

@ihateBoris I have sent you a PM.

Puppalicious · 25/07/2025 07:37

I can’t get Botox in my forehead which is sad because it’s the deep wrinkles there that led me to want to try it. I have hooded eyes (probably why I have forehead wrinkles) and the one time (my very good) person did it lightly, after saying he wouldn’t for a couple of sessions, my eyelids definitely drooped and I didn’t like the effect. I got 11s and crows feet and definitely I look fresher.

Puppalicious · 25/07/2025 07:38

I think he does a little above the eyebrows for lift too.

MumsTheWordYouKnow · 25/07/2025 08:09

So sad people feel the need for this. You can do facial yoga, exercise and eat well and that will literally be a long term improvement on your face. Far better investment.

tinaabbot · 25/07/2025 08:36

I have been getting it for years, I used to get my forehead, 11s and crows feet and did sometimes get a slightly dropped eyebrow, or heaviness. I have hooded eyes.

I now just get my 11s and it smooths a lot of my forehead without freezing it and allows movement, but also lifts my eyebrow a tiny bit and makes me look way better. I’d suggest that first and see how it goes.

Even when I felt mine wasn’t great, no one noticed, not even my hyper observant daughter, we just notice and feel our faces in a lot more detail than anyone looking at us

TheOGCCL · 25/07/2025 08:37

If you are nervous I’d agree with just doing one part of the face. It’s also good to discuss what you are trying to achieve. Some people actually want the frozen look, so it lasts and because that is becoming what people want to look like.

You need trust between you and the practitioner. Going to someone who is personally recommended is good. For my first time I went to Harley Street, to a cosmetic doctor who understood face structure and knew exactly what it would do to me. Their own faces are quite a good clue as to whether you are on the same page.

Wethers121 · 25/07/2025 09:00

I love it and never had any issues. If I were you though, I would start slowly and build up. I started with my 11s, then now have my eyes done too. I have naturally hooded eyes and don’t have my forehead done but I find the 11s slows forehead use a little too so not needed. Sometimes I have a little left over and she puts a tiny bit in my forehead but this is included in the price for the two areas as not much.

hypnovic · 25/07/2025 09:39

Sadie nardini face HIT is brilliant. Botox can mean your skin goes all weird and squishy if you stop using it as the muscles stop working its too risky for me health diet lots water good skin care Sadie nardina yoga and face massage zero side effects

esperanzaa · 25/07/2025 09:48

Yes, only in as much as it didn’t work on me. Went back for a top up which again did barely nothing. Apparently some people are just ‘immune’ to it!

user1471553275 · 25/07/2025 09:50

I've also had mine done via my dentist. I've been seeing her since my late teens and now almost 44. I love it. I've had my 11s, jawline and forehead done. The first time I also had some filler as I'm conscious of my marionette lines and a tiny bit of filler in my top lip. I didn't feel it made any difference so have not had it done again since.

I also had a headache for a few days the first time and it did feel very odd as I slowly lost the movement in my forehead, kinda tight is the best description. Initially had some slight wrinkling near the edge of my eyebrow on one side as it settled in too. A week later it was all gone and fine but I will admit I was panicking, like 3 little short wrinkles at the tip of my eyebrow!!

I too have noticed my eyelids felt a little bit droopy on my second time so mentioned it to my lady. She said she'd go in higher and put a little less in so not noticed any issues this time.

I absolutely love it. I feel much fresher with it in. I would say it took about 2 weeks to get the full effect the first time and about a week on the top ups. It softens the lines but I still have movement of my forehead so can raise my brows and frown slightly but not as strongly as I would without it. I would say I can see it starting to wear off after about 2.5 months as the lines start to reappear but I have been having a top up at 6 months. Not cheap but worth how it makes me feel and I've not been tempted to have any additional add ons.

I think now having had it done I can spot it in other people as the smoothness is apparent but my face my business so do what makes you feel good.

My one and only experience was from a dentist and it was not good. I ended up with one brow pushed down and an odd / weird “ bubble” on my eye. ( hard to describe but looked like a water filled blister). Unfortunately they didn’t want to know when I called up about it. 2 weeks later I got a thyroid condition Graves’ disease although that’s probably incidental ( the 2 things are linked in my head )
