Help! How to style dress so it looks a bit edgy/not like a bridesmaid?

Going to a September wedding (where there are no bridesmaids) , and love this dress, but feels a bit frumpy. Dress code is 'extra/ott' and frankly this colour is as far as I'm prepared to go! Just wondering if there's a way to style this so it looks a bit less bridesmaidy? I was thinking maybe metallic accessories? or something more clashy? But not sure if it's a goer at all? Try Tallulah & Hope. They have some lovely dresses, I would class them as extra and edgy!

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 17/07/2025 20:59

It doesn't look like a bridesmaid's dress.
It could not conceivably be called edgy or OTT.

I second all of ANagsHead's suggestion and would add Sister Jane and Klements.

Goodluckanddontfitup · 17/07/2025 21:35

The dress is gorgeous, might order it myself! Metallica accessories would looks lovely, maybe gold with that colour, some chunky heels or wedges maybe, gold jewellery, and if you wanted maybe an interesting, patterned bag?

The two disturbia ddressesare gorgeous and given your goth look are something you'd wear again and again.

I like Metamorphoza . Edgy but well made and in good fabrics. Wolf and Badger sell them but cheaper to go direct.

I would wear a leopard print shoe, maybe a leopard bag or a gold one

legolegoeverywhereandnotadroptodrink · 18/07/2025 08:15

That dress is stunning! Id get gold
shoes and glam it jpeven more with that theme

limetrees32 · 18/07/2025 08:37

I think adding accessories with a clashing colour would work .
Thinking a vivid green.
But shoot me now !

Thank you all! And thanks for reminding me about Disturbia! Great shout!

I love this one from John Lewis, it was out of stock in loads of sizes but they have some now

what about this? Also beautiful green colour…with some gold accessories or you could rock a leopard print shoe with the green maybe?

I love the colour, you could go with chunky gold or animal print accessories.
At least for me (top heavy) that length sleeve looks really frumpy on me, and the length could be challenging. You could experiment with different sleeve and hem lengths to get it to really suit you.

Gold accessories, nice belt.

I think you might have replied to the wrong thread.

Just the one shoe? Now that would be edgy 😀

Isometimeswonder · 19/07/2025 09:08

I like the bright orange... a I'd wear pink shoes and bag. I like colour clashes

GellerYeller · 19/07/2025 09:13

Please don’t buy shoes from Next, no offence to the PP, if you want to look edgy or extra.
Totally agree with the Disturbia suggestions then a really great chunky platform though. Have a great time.

Love these, the Phase Eight one especially - much better than the original choice imo.

I thought the Phase Eight one matched the brief perfectly too.

OP -- with OTT dress, need to think about how often you might wear it again. If it's not really your usual style, could do great with a dress like the one you suggested and some mad chunky jewellry/ accessories.

Sunaquarius · 19/07/2025 10:01

I don't think it looks bridesmaidy

Carodebalo · 19/07/2025 11:01

Great dress! I like the suggestion of clashing with bright pink to make it ott.

GoldDuster · 19/07/2025 14:39

Doesn't look at all bridesmaidy. I'd also go with bright pink shoes if you want to up the extra factor.

laclochette · 19/07/2025 15:36

I think it is a bit frumpy yes. Just buy a dress you actually love!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/07/2025 19:37

Of course it isn't fucking frumpy. If it was from Self Portrait people wouldn't be saying that, and it's not dissimilar to some of their shapes.

That Phase Eight one, on the other hand, is Not Very Nice imo.
