Help! How to style dress so it looks a bit edgy/not like a bridesmaid?

Going to a September wedding (where there are no bridesmaids) , and love this dress, but feels a bit frumpy. Dress code is 'extra/ott' and frankly this colour is as far as I'm prepared to go! Just wondering if there's a way to style this so it looks a bit less bridesmaidy? I was thinking maybe metallic accessories? or something more clashy? But not sure if it's a goer at all? Dark bronze or bright gold metallic accessories, and NOT a fascinator. On most people, they look silly and clichéd. Just a super hairstyle, or if you really want something on your head, a lovely hat or jewelled hairband. (Like Catherine wore for the Coronation, but slightly toned down) If it goes on to an evening reception, you could switch the look by having a neutral linen jacket for the ceremony, then ditching that and the hat for the evening, maybe have a chiffon or organza wrap.

Lovely dress. Grey kitten heels and bag would also work well with it.

You could have a matching buttonhole as an accessory.

I wore a black fedora hat to a wedding one time with a black shirt and cream trouser suit.

If it's a cooler day in September then also a dove grey leather jacket would look awesome with it.

Gosh that's a lovely dress. I dont think they have one left ion my size ot I would be very tempted.

Chunky boots (doctor martens type) with a bomber jacket/sweater with leather jewelry same color as boots. Free people does that look all the time.

I love my DMs and leather jackets, but I wouldn't wear them to a wedding unless I was very sure of the dress code. Heeled black suede boots might work though.

Throwing in Klements as an option. With chunky gothy boots. I think its probably a bit marmite but I love their oversized dresses.

I think this fits an extra/OTT autumn wedding nicely.

I think it’s a really lovely dress! :) Doesn’t look at all like a bridesmaid dress to me.

I’d personally put it with a pair of gold block heels & some big statement earrings in gold / coral / pink (I always love Oliver Bonas for that type of jewellery)

Your dress is perfect and would accessorise it with gold eg chunky heel sandal or boots

Dazedandconfusedma · 29/07/2025 16:25

I think it’s really lovely - you could go with clashing earrings/shoes in a blue-y/turquoise

MurdoMunro · 29/07/2025 16:34

I’m not a nice-dress-and-coordinated-accessories sort of person AT ALL. But when I want to zhizz myself up I like a brooch. So for your wedding I would choose my ceramics crow brooch on my (one) nice dress. The dress because ‘wedding, look I tried OK?’ and the crow brooch over, say the one that’s a flower or the sweet little robin, for its ‘out there’ vibe.

It's gorgeous. Clashing accessories is a great idea too
