I have £2k for a beautiful bag - which one, though?

RedPandaFluff · 13/07/2025 19:46

I am fortunate enough to have been given £2k by a very dear relative and instructed to treat myself to a new handbag.

This will be a treasured item (because of the person I will always associate with it) and a massive, unprecedented splurge.

So . . . what do I get? I want beautiful quality rather than the usual brand names . . . and not a work bag, as I work from home. A small crossbody, probably. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I wanted to spend the same amount on a bag a few days ago to celebrate a big milestone

I’ve never spent more than £100 on a bag

we went to the lush shops on Regent street - Chanel, Gucci, Chloe, Dior etc. some were on sale for £5k.

and then the mulberry store. I fell in love with my first mulberry - a mini Alexa crossbody with change to spare from the £2k. And I absolutely love love it.

I think you made a good choice. I'd go for Mulberry over the likes of Gucci, Chloe & Dior any day.

I've got a dupe mini Alexa which was bought for me in Turkey (yes, I know, don't shoot me).

I have to say it is brilliant, great size and surprisingly roomy. Love that it is crossbody for the daytime but looks smart for the evening without the strap.

Despite my reservations about the quality of Mulberry bags recently, I would get a mini Alexa could I afford it. I might looking at trading my Bayswater in to help fund a new purchase.

Honestly I’m in love with it. It’s usable for every day - and like a tardis in terms of how much I can fit in it

the leather is sublime. I’ve never been a bag person - but I’m very happy with it.

and could never have paid eg £5k for a lady Dior I barely wear (I don’t have that money anyway - but even if I did)!

I thought I should post an update, just in case anyone wanted to know, especially as so many were kind enough to give me advice! The final purchase was . . . the Loewe mini Puzzle! It’s BEAUTIFUL and is my daily bag - I want to use it often for several reasons: to remember my relative, to enjoy it rather than storing it away for “good”, and . . . because it’s beautiful and practical. It suits me perfectly.

You were all absolutely right about seeing them in person rather than buying online. I initially thought I’d go for the ‘small’ size but in real life it was much bigger than I thought it would be, and quite boxy. The mini was perfect. However, once I’d made my decision, I bought a pre-loved one, as I knew this would help me use and enjoy it rather than be terrified of damaging it.

So, mission accomplished - thanks again for advice and opinions!

It’s always about bags as well, isn’t it?

OP, I’m so glad you were able to find a bag you love and that you’re using it every day.

I know.

Some people like bags, others like watches, jewellery, cars, holidays, clothes, furniture, cosmetic surgery etc.
People are free to spend their money on whatever they like
Thread was clearly titled and the OP stated the situation yet still people have a dig.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 28/09/2025 08:09

So pleased to see your update, we don’t often get them. May we see a pic of your lovely bag?

Great choice, hope you get much enjoyment from it.

To be fair. It was a bargain and on a cost per wear basis may represent significant value for money over many years and is kinder to the environment than an acre of cheap tat.

I'm thrilled for the op as she explained it was a meaningful purchase arising from a legacy, well thought through and researched.

Now off you go to look for your chip.

RedPandaFluff · 28/09/2025 12:07

Here she is! I appreciate that it probably doesn’t look like anything special to the non-bag lovers but it feels beautiful - soft and smooth.

i just hope this doesn’t mark the start of an addiction I can’t afford Grin
