I have £2k for a beautiful bag - which one, though?

RedPandaFluff · 13/07/2025 19:46

I am fortunate enough to have been given £2k by a very dear relative and instructed to treat myself to a new handbag.

This will be a treasured item (because of the person I will always associate with it) and a massive, unprecedented splurge.

So . . . what do I get? I want beautiful quality rather than the usual brand names . . . and not a work bag, as I work from home. A small crossbody, probably. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I also have the Loewe mini puzzle fold tote which is cross body and I love it and it’s been used to death. Mine is orange. It’s around £1k so nowhere near budget. Are you allowed 2 bags rather than 1?!

PaLilli60 · 20/07/2025 21:56

What about a beautiful aspinal bag and then you would likely still have approx 1.5 k for something else?

Instructed ? Really
I have a mulberry, but there’s no way I’d spend Two grand on a handbag in this financial climate

😂Talk about having your cake and vomming it up in the toilets afterwards.

I have a Celine Triomphe and it is subtle ( in my opinion) and I love it. I have it in tan.

I also have a LV Neverfull and a green goyard so being subtle isn't my thing reading this thread.

I think you'd like the Celine, it looks lovely and it feels so soft yet structured.

I'm now looking at Bottega... they're lovely too.

This is exactly my point about it being a rather odd concept of setting the budget then saying 'which bag should I buy for this amount of money'.

What if the bag the OP wants costs less than £2k. Is she not allowed to buy it and instead buy a bag she doesn't love as much because it costs the right amount of money?

It's also rather odd that people gift money and dictate what it must be spent on. Surely it's up to the recipient to decide how best they'll benefit from the gift? We've received around £1k 3 times from parents/PIL and they've never said anything about how we should spend it. So we were free to decide and I think it's gone on a sofa, a holiday and some gone into savings.

That’s by gangs who buy them in multiples and resell them…….. I’m buying directly from the manufacturers in china. Not the same page.

You don’t think there’s any slavery involved there? I’d rather just buy the real thing and know that no Uyghurs are being beaten into working faster.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 21/07/2025 07:23

That Tanner Leatherstein account is brutal.😆 I was going to look and see if he dissected a Flamenco to see if he could get it out of my head because it’s actually rubbish, but a) he seems to say that Loewe really are quality and b) I’m not sure I could watch.😂

Watched one Mulberry video and he seemed very approving of that for the price point. Found that interesting as so many say Mulberry rubbish these days and I’ve always found them excellent quality (and have far too many).

You can't go wrong with YSL.

What a waste of two grand. 😭

A bag that will last a lifetime and give the OP joy isn't a waste of money. Different strokes for different folks.

Londonmummy66 · 21/07/2025 18:06

@MokaEfti I used to lose stuff in my bags all the time so now I have some cheap organisers from ebay in different sizes to fit different bags which has solved the problem. They are especially useful in a light colour to go in a dark bag so I can see where all my crap is - otherwise I find it hard to see things in the depths of a black or navy tote.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 21/07/2025 19:09

Do we know what OP is going to buy or has she been scared off by the disapproving moral guardians from the Salvation Army putting their oar in?

RedPandaFluff · 22/07/2025 06:33

Hi everyone - I thought I better update! I’ve arranged a day out in London so I can have a look at some bags in person. I think touching and feeling them, and trying them on, will help me make the decision. The Loewe mini Puzzle is still the frontrunner, I think.

Thank you so much to everyone who understood the situation and took the time to post and make recommendations.

I have a Loewe mini puzzle OP and I absolutely love it. It’s the most expensive thing I’ve ever bought for myself and I appreciate it every single time I use it. Have a great day out choosing!

NeedWineNow · 22/07/2025 07:41

Great idea @RedPandaFluff . Buying online is all very well -I’ve done it enough times! - but when you are making a considered purchase then nothing beats seeing a product in store and making sure it’s right for you.

Have a lovely day out and I look forward to seeing your new purchase!

shewasasaint · 22/07/2025 08:32

That's great. You'll have a better idea when you handle them and see the size properly.

Look forward to hearing how you get on.

Sounds lovely OP. As I said way, way up thread, I’m not a fan of expensive handbags - but get pleasure from following links on MN, hence my presence on the thread.

My DDs and I spent a happy half day wondering around all the gorgeousness of Liberty’s. I’d recommend that as a starting point. It’s lovely. And the lifts are like something out of Harry Potter.

I hope you find your dream handbag.

Londonmummy66 · 22/07/2025 09:54

If Selfridges is on your visit list take a half an hour out to wander around St Christopher's place - no handbags anymore as Mulberry has moved but lots of quirky little shops.

As an aside, I was considering that bag, but I read an online article that says the strap is not adjustable. That was a deal breaker for me; it may not be for you.

How lovely. And I'm so glad you've been able to ignore all the nonsense on this thread. I'm just surprised nobody mentioned a bench...😂

If you going to London, do go to the proper Loewe and Bottega shop. The service is much better than in Selfridges (much as I love Selfridges as a shop). They are both on old bond street

bendmeoverbackwards · 27/07/2025 16:37

Have a lovely day shopping OP. Looking forward to hearing what you decide on!
