I was converted to cameos by Crown Princess Victoria’s amazing Napoleonic-era wedding tiara. Just stunning - and she was beautifully styled to make the tiara the focal point of her outfit.

Loved the photo the Waleses today at the tennis.

I think that’s truly hideous.

Found an article in Tatler about that crown. It is believed to have belonged to Josephine Bonaparte. I absolutely love the bodice of Victoria's wedding dress.

Tiara of the Month: The Cameo Parure belonging to the Swedish Royal Family

The intriguing history of this unusual headpiece, that became part of the Swedish Royal collection after it was commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte's wife Josephine

I really liked her dress today - beautiful colour(s) blue. I'd have preferred it without the shoulder detail though.

Charlotte's dress was lovely.

It's such a beautiful, delicate piece.

Fascinating history too.

I’m not a huge fan of cameos.
Whilst I like Victorias crown/tiara, I don’t like the cameo features.

I think this is Catherine's necklace from today (which I would absolutely wear, I love a statement piece).

I'm reading it has Louis's birthstone month in it.

Well it has diamonds in it if that’s his birthstone. Apparently Kate’s is on a bespoke chunkier chain.

StartupRepair · 14/07/2025 01:01

Love Kate's blue dress and the gold necklace.
Victoria was a beautiful bride, just bursting with happiness.

ThePoetsWife · 14/07/2025 07:22

Disliked the bows on the dress and her hair style was too girly. The necklace was too chunky for her - she has a very bony chest so maybe was trying to cover it?

Charlotte looked great - George looked too stifled - a shirt and trousers would be better in the heat.

George looked fine.

All the men in the royal box were wearing jackets and ties. George was not dressed in a jacket because he was royal. He was following the dress code of the event he was attending.

Cassiope · 14/07/2025 07:53

Formal dress codes in warm weather are one of the rare occasions when I think men draw the short straw! I wonder how many are discreetly sporting a short-sleeved or sleeveless shirt underneath? Linen suit and silk shirt in pale colours seems the best bet...

Cassiope · 14/07/2025 08:00

Not much to say about Kate's outfit. A bolder, brighter colour than she often chooses, but a very familiar shape. In her later years the late Queen adopted a fairly formulaic approach to dressing for public appearances, but although the styles and shapes always looked quite similar she continued to wear a more extensive colour palette than Catherine does - unless my impression is mistaken - and she rang the changes with her hat decorations. (I believe the blocks of colour and the omnipresent hat were partly to make sure she was easy to spot for the crowds who turned out to see her.)

I don't share the enthusiasm for Helen Mirren’s dress. The print is anonymous and it looks as if it's made from viscose, which always hangs like a limp dish rag. I think Stormzy looks way smarter. Pics of the crowd show Keira Knightley wearing what looks like a blouse with a rather nice wide collar: simple, clean lines, but slightly different.

Serenster · 14/07/2025 08:01

Apparently Charlotte’s dress yesterday, and her recent Trooping the Colour dresses have been custom made by Sarah Burton. Good to see her relationship with the Princess of Wales continues, even if she’s now heading Givenchy, and so has limited opportunities to dress her for big events.

Cassiope · 14/07/2025 08:05

@Choux I hate to say it, but I'm glad Kate skipped that weird shoulder halter patterning of the colours.

It’s tireless this attacking George for conforming to the dress code, whether it be football or tennis. Imagine the comments if he didn’t adhere to the dress code!

Agree. And, again, much like his mother and the current and late Queens, it’s a uniform for when they appear in public. It probably helps them to mentally compartmentalise when they are on or off duty. If George wore less formal attire, it might be more difficult for him to switch between his “job” and his home life. The same as taking off your uniform when getting back from school or taking off your work clothes on the evening. And the same applies to Charlotte or Louis and also their parents

Looking at a kid on one of these occasions and thinking anything other than, "That's nice," makes me wonder about the motivations of the commentator, and usually it's pretty clear.

Yes, I'm inclined to agree.
