Is Botox worth the money?

Hi,

I’m 46 and all of a sudden I have lines. They are around my mouth (like a cat’s bum mouth 😭), around my eyes, a few on my forehead.

I’m very depressed by it all. I can’t use tret. I’ve been thinking about Botox but I just don’t know where to start. Any advice? How do I find someone good? How much will it cost?

And most importantly, is it worth it?

Thanks!

Stygimoloch · 10/07/2025 19:30

Where roughly are you based?

Stygimoloch · 10/07/2025 19:31

And how do you get a good practitioner?

I pay about 150 for one area.

ShoeeMcfee · 10/07/2025 19:32

It will work on your forehead but for the lines around your mouth you will probably need filler. I asked my hairdresser if she knew anyone, when I moved into the area. I also checked that the practitioner was trained. I love my face with Botox and have it about 4 times a year.

emmaliz · 10/07/2025 19:33

So basically my frown lines. Last time I got two areas because I started to get surprise lines (these aren’t technical terms) that was 240

@cleowasmycathow many pennies?

£160 for eyebrow lines. South East

emmaliz · 10/07/2025 19:34

When you get older your lips lose volume so a little filler can make them more structured so not go in on themselves if that makes sense, but get a professional

AmyDuPlantier · 10/07/2025 19:36

GOD YES. Long live the Botox.

Stygimoloch · 10/07/2025 19:42

@emmaliz yes that’s what’s happening! My lips are going in on themselves! I HATE it!

@ShoeeMcfee how is filler different? I lack so
much knowledge.

Yes, every penny!

Ontheedgeofit · 10/07/2025 20:00

Rather spend your money on Botox than expensive skin care if you have to choose. Botox wins hands down and is worth every penny.

Titasaducksarse · 10/07/2025 20:00

£90 for 1 area south wales. Same practitioner also does clinic in Bristol...just crossing that bridge it's £170 for 1 area.

3luckystars · 10/07/2025 20:01

Wow these are good reviews!

isitmytime · 10/07/2025 20:06

Please make sure you go to a registered medical practitioner if you do decide to go for it. Nurse, dentist etc. they’re usually a little bit more expensive but the extra knowledge and piece of mind is well worth it.
I pay £250 for three areas in central Scotland from a nurse with her own cosmetic business.
it’s the one thing I won’t be without. Skincare won’t make the changes you want. A lip flip might give you the look you’re after or they may recommend filler l. Start off small and you can always top it up once it’s settles and you see the results

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 10/07/2025 20:06

Lots of pretty reliable information here:

https://thetweakmentsguide.com/tweakments/toxins/

I think the recommended practitioners may pay to be on there (or they’re famous ones) but they’re certainly qualified.

I’m booked in for my first time on 30 July and I can’t wait!

Yes I'm same age

I just get forehead and it doesn't look fake ,- no one knows. I go to a dentist in my area and she's the most expensive (don't live in uk)

Toooldtopretend · 10/07/2025 20:10

Do you smoke? If so I can’t see the point in getting botox for cats bum lines. I had issues with the 11 lines at the top of my nose and it’s brilliant to sort those though.

Stygimoloch · 10/07/2025 20:21

@Toooldtopretend not I don’t smoke. I’ve never smoked but they look like smokers’ lines. Not that noticeable yet but they only going to get worse!

How long do the treatments last? If you don’t have top ups, does your face just go back to normal or does it look worse than before?

Thanks for all the info everyone!

I've been trying to resist getting botox and this thread isn't helping ahhh! I could so easily be convinced.

I'm only 40 OP and my face is worse than you describe. It's so so depressing and gets me down every day. It also seems to be getting worse at an alarming rate.

Why can't you have tret? I've started prescription tret which I'm told will help somewhat but I'm still waiting to see any difference. I was hoping it might help me hold on a few more years. I might start collagen too as my face seems to be drooping.

Stygimoloch · 10/07/2025 20:43

@Sunorrain3 I used tret for a while but my skin reacted terribly and I ended up with really bad perioral dermatitis. I was gutted. I persevered far longer than I should have done and tried all sorts of buffer creams because I was so convinced it was the answer.

It seems like Botox is the only other option. These reviews seem very positive!
