Is Botox worth the money?

Hi,

I’m 46 and all of a sudden I have lines. They are around my mouth (like a cat’s bum mouth 😭), around my eyes, a few on my forehead.

I’m very depressed by it all. I can’t use tret. I’ve been thinking about Botox but I just don’t know where to start. Any advice? How do I find someone good? How much will it cost?

And most importantly, is it worth it?

Thanks!

I don’t know about cat’s bum lines but Botox is fabulous for forehead, glabella and crow’s feet. It definitely doesn’t worsen lines as it wears off, quite the opposite. I used to get my forehead done, and now I don’t need it.

Go to a recommend doctor or dentist. Do not go to a high street practitioner with no medical training.

I love Botox! I used to have 3 big deep lines in my forehead but no more! I had mine redone 2 weeks ago after not having it for over a year due to medication I was on and I feel so much better. The lines started to reappear but they weren’t as bad as before but definitely noticeable but now 2 weeks after a top up the lines have disappeared again!!

Vax · 10/07/2025 20:50

Yep. £220 here. I get it twice a year. Probably need to move to 3 times but it’s £££

Stygimoloch · 10/07/2025 20:21

@Toooldtopretend not I don’t smoke. I’ve never smoked but they look like smokers’ lines. Not that noticeable yet but they only going to get worse!

How long do the treatments last? If you don’t have top ups, does your face just go back to normal or does it look worse than before?

Thanks for all the info everyone!

Mine lasts about 4 months but still is better than without at that point.

I was concerned initially that my face would basically collapse if i stopped having it done, but my practitioner explained it to my like folding a piece of paper. If you keep folding a piece of paper, the crease gets deeper and deeper. If you have Botox it basically pauses that constant folding so the creases aren’t getting deeper whilst it’s effective and when you stop you are back to the point at which you started having it, rather than it having got worse in that time.

Do your research though, please don’t just go for the cheapest option!

£210 for two areas - Derbyshire.
Sorry if this is repeating info already given… if you do decide to get Botox OP it’s not instant and will take around 2 weeks to work fully, you’ll definitely not look back once you’ve had it. It may take 2 or 3 sessions until your happy with the results, I stopped for a few years due to pregnancy/miscarriage/pregnancy and it’s taken a couple of sessions to get back to where I was with it but I couldn’t be without it now. Very subtle and no one would know but I know.

Iwilladmit · 10/07/2025 20:59

Yep yep yep

look into a lip flip op. Is that what you want?

it may be filler you want (more expensive but lasts longer) but go and have a consultation in a couple of places and see what they say.

I'm embarrassed by how much I love my botox. I was so sure I wouldn't succumb to it but had a fuck it moment a couple of years back, started with baby botox and was so surprised at how much smoother everything was. I go every 9m or so, costs me £120 with my practitioner. I had the full freeze on forehead and crows feet and look so much younger than I did last week.

3luckystars · 10/07/2025 21:12

can botox lift up eyebrows a little bit ??

I don’t have forehead lines but notice my eyelids are sagging down a bit. Would Botox buy me a bit of time ?

JazzyBBBG · 10/07/2025 21:15

OP look up Tonic Aesthetics in Stourbridge. Not far from you. Haven't been personally but know a lot of people who do and are happy with.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 10/07/2025 21:21

The good thing (and bad thing! 💰) about Botox is that it isn't permanent.
If you don't like it, you just don't get it again.. no harm done.

I got it for the first time a few months ago after threatening it for years & wouldn't look back. I'm so happy with the results & worth every penny (£150 - 1 area) to me. It's made a huge difference.

Also note, the earlier you start the better as it's preventative. Don't wait until the wrinkles get too deep.

SunshineAndFizz · 10/07/2025 21:21

Yes.

No. It makes eyelids saggier. If that’s your issue avoid Botox until you have forehead lines.

WhistlingStraits · 10/07/2025 21:32

Botox can definitely lift your brows. My practitioner thinks I’m weird as all her customers like a bit of a brow lift and I don’t.

Sabretoothtigress · 10/07/2025 21:36

Sounds like the tret was too harsh for you, or your regime was too harsh..?

I have super sensitive skin, but have had fantastic results with The Ordinary's retinol emulsion.

I put it on my face for 1 hour in the evenings, every other day (or so, when I remember!) then wash off before bed. The first few weeks were up and down as my skin adjusted, but i kept going (following advice of Dr Sam Bunting on Youtube) and it is fabulous now. my skin is clear, less lines, more supple and strong looking. Well worth it. And its like, £10!!

You wouldn't think 1 hour was long enough... but it makes a huge difference to me! I don't want to sleep with it at night as it walks around my face into my eyes/goes on the pillow.

So, maybe try that?

@emmalizI’m in Dudley/Wolverhampton

I live here and pay £200 for three areas. Best decision I ever made.

emmaliz · 10/07/2025 22:33

I just want to caution that fillers aren’t prescription (unlike Botox) so effectively even less regulated so choose your practitioner carefully although lots of information online about this.
unless that’s changed recently?

Stygimoloch · 11/07/2025 06:28

@thaisweetchill please would you be able to tell me where you go on a DM?

I have the cats bum problem. The doctor I go to does my mouth for £75
It’s a very small dose of Botox needed. I would start with a Botox lip flip before trying filler. it looks great and lasts about 12 weeks if you’re lucky.
I haven’t found dentists or nurses to be any good, so I always go to a doctor.

KPPlumbing · 11/07/2025 07:17

£250 for 3 areas. South West.

It's worth every penny.

It doesn't make me look younger, but it makes me look so fresh.

I do a tonne of exercise (which metabolises the botox), so it's pretty much worn off after about 8-10 weeks, but I get it done every 12.
