Well style mavens, that last thread went quickly! Let's hope we get more royal fashion to analyse. I think we need some tiara action, though.

Would we know if the Gloucester's had some sort of trust that includes the fabulous jewellery? You don't stay that rich without knowing how to preserve your assets.

We know that in 2005 the Gloucesters had to sell a lot of property and items to cover the inheritance tax bill and openly said they were looking to raise at least £1million to cover the bill. I think if there was any trust it would have been a lesser bill and would likely have leaked/been mentioned then.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 11/07/2025 08:50

It would be fantastic if tiaras et al were gifted to the Crown to be kept in a specific foundation (not sure of the correct term) for Senior Princesses and Duchesses to share.

I wonder if, when Catherine becomes Queen, she might bring in a more cooperative approach - something akin to the Swedish system. She could always keep some favourites for her own use.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 11/07/2025 08:52

Or maybe gifted personally would be better, so they stay with the Royal Family.

Cassiope · 11/07/2025 09:48

@Choux That green one she wore to Wimbledon is excellent. The short sleeves are appropriately summery and yet it's still so chic. Would never have guessed it was a dress though, in the sense of the top and bottom halves being connected. Is there an alternate definition of 'dress'?

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 11/07/2025 09:49

I'm surprised that Sophie's dress from the State Dinner is growing on me! I know it's not perfect, but I quite like it.

themessygarden · 11/07/2025 09:55

Self Portrait is my go-to for weddings and events. Yes, the suit actually has the skirt attached to the jacket, which makes it really comfortable,

I know Catherine doesn't want to be defined by the clothes she wears, remember that announcement that KP would not be giving info on where her clothes were from, which was then retracted, however I do think her style has become quite staid in the last few years, maybe someone new will shake it up a bit, she has such an amazing figure and is so elegant and beautiful,, she really could wear anything.

I find Kate’s style dull, prissy and too old for her.

She’s about the same age, and I’m loving everything Harriet, Peter Phillip’s partner wears. Her Wimbledon Wiggy Kit two-piece looked fabulous with those platform sandals. She’s really stylish. She looked great at Ascot, too.

Choux · 11/07/2025 10:54

I don’t think Kate would ever wear this on official duty as a) it appears to be linen so looks crumpled and b) it risks showing her bare stomach as it’s so loose. Neither are good for a royal on duty. She might well dress like this when seeing friends though - we don’t know.

Harriet’s hair is 😘 though. Kate needs a good trim (well a chop!) and to style it with more of a wave than a curl like in this photo.

I'm hoping that Sophie wearing the Lotus flower tiara, that Kate had worn previously, to the Japanese state dinner last year means there's already less of a "that's X's tiara" set up.

themessygarden · 11/07/2025 11:15

I hope Catherine is a bit more on trend in her private life. I do think the previous poster who mentioned she needs to be circumspect about what she wears to official events, so she doesn't overshadow others and is dressed appropriately for the occasion, is a very valid point.

I also think we can't overlook that she had been unwell for a while before anyone knew, so I guess that could have impacted how she felt about the clothes she wore. I would love to see her in some of the outfits Letizia wears, she really manages to mix it up, they both have tiny frames and Catherine has the benefit of her stature.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 11/07/2025 11:18

The skirt Catherine wore to welcome the Macrons is absolutely gorgeous. I like it so much more having seen it in motion.

It's just a shame that its effect was diluted by the repeated wear of the Self Portrait silhouette. Which is also quite lovely, tbf. I'm just saying the Dior outfit would have been even more special had it been a new idea, or not previously seen.

We talk about clothing here a lot but as I said I don't think it's the most interesting thing about Catherine, by any means.

She's also entitled to her own preferences and doesn't owe anyone anything.

justasking111 · 11/07/2025 13:18

It's no bad thing Catherine stylist has moved on after fifteen years in my opinion. Both are in a rut.

Leticia, Mary, Max, even Macron have a better grasp on mid range fashion as well as couture.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 11/07/2025 13:23

I'm not all that keen on Brigitte Macron's style. But I do agree with you that it's high time for a fresh take as long as it is authentic (a much overused term atm but relevant here).

KiIIingMeDeftly · 11/07/2025 15:18

Some nice pics on the RF Instagram of past state visits. The first features a tiny Charles and Anne with a very young King Hussein of Jordan and his then-queen Dina, who was very beautiful and glamorous.

Anna Wintour is not Royalty but is Fashion Royalty and I wasn’t impressed with her shoe and dress pairing at Wimbledon Day 12 😀
This is the woman who deems if something fashion wise is worthy of consideration Vogue or not.

Oh no taken with Carol Middleton's dress earlier at Wimbledon does this mean dropped wastes are now 'in'? I would look like an ambulatory fridge freezer in a dropped waste dress. Please can not every summer dress be that shape next year. 🙏

Cassiope · 11/07/2025 21:51

But they'd suit Kate a treat @GetDressedYouMerryGentlemen !

Cloche hats making a comeback would be cool with me too. I've always loved the shape of them - so elegant.

I don't mind them being an option for those who aren't chubby hour glasses but if it becomes one of those all consuming trends I'll be in old dresses trouble

Nooooo! Her torso is too long for dropped waists! They make her legs look super-stumpy.

I love a cloche - I own several.

Cassiope · 11/07/2025 22:09

@Serenster
Wrong hem length problem with that dress.
For that hem length I think you have to drop the waist a bit more, so that the skirt bit is half way to a long ruffle.

I had a dropped waist dress years ago, managed to leave it behind somewhere. Wouldn't mind an excuse to get another one.

Cassiope · 11/07/2025 22:25

Actually I like that dress on Kate as is, even if I wish she didn't wear so many dresses that length. Can't quite tell if the waist is in the right place for sashaying, but there's definite potential...

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 11/07/2025 22:37

A drop waist that isn't so fitted would be fine on Catherine; that iteration just looks all kinds of wrong because her natural waist is too obvious and it ruins the proportions. She's worn them a few times, I think there's one I liked but have no memory of what it was. Might've been tweed?
