Well style mavens, that last thread went quickly! Let's hope we get more royal fashion to analyse. I think we need some tiara action, though.

Potentially losing my tiaras is the only thing that stops me name changing. I wish all the Royal ladies were as enthusiastic about the bling as Camilla.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 09/07/2025 08:08

I think they probably are - surely no one can resist those sparklers! But there are still protocols to be observed.

It'd be fun if they set up a Swedish-style lesser tiaras sharing pool for Catherine and Sophie, until Catherine becomes Queen.

Upon thinking about it I'd rather not be a President's wife, and I definitely don't want to be President myself. So if a genie is listening I'd rather be Birgitte instead and have the entire contents of her fabulous jewellery collection!!

Sigh. Back to the coffee maker. Might wear a tiara for breakfast. Too much?

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 09/07/2025 08:21

Omg it attached my quote to the wrong comment somehow! Argh obviously not awake yet.

You definitely need more bling with your coffee 😆

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 09/07/2025 08:40

Tiara ✅ and the full parure ✅ plus two extra bracelets and a stomacher!! ✅✅

😉

onehorserace · 09/07/2025 08:43

The red was a beautiful look. The table was gorgeous too - all flowers from the gardens!

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 09/07/2025 08:44

Yes I think that deep red was absolutely gorgeous.

Problem is now they've done red white and blue so what will they do for the US?

Stars and stripes? 😄

Cassiope · 09/07/2025 08:59

Thanks to whoever posted the link to the DM gallery. There were some slightly better photos of the flowers and I managed to ID a few. The aesthetic was definitely leaning naturalistic. I think that when they talk about use of 'herbs' they're using the term in the botanical sense - herbaceous rather than woody plants, although culinary herbs would offer a variety of foliage textures.

I'm a fan of the flowers, but I wish they hadn't used clear glass vases. I just don't understand why these are so popular - a tangle of bare, submerged stems never improves the aesthetics of a floral display. Coloured glass would have looked good.

I’m no expert when it comes to flowers, but I wonder if clear glass was used on this case so as to allow more light on the table? There were a lot of arrangements, and it might have been a bit overwhelming for the diners if they were in more solid vases 🤷‍♀️

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 09/07/2025 09:37

Thanks @Cassiope that's interesting! I know what you mean, but trends are trends I guess and I kinda like the unbridled nature aspect of it and also the lightness on such a dark table. I can imagine the King enthusiastically talking about the various stems/roots/whatnot with guests.

I thought it was fantastic to see the table at Windsor. It's a refreshing change from the usual Buckingham Palace setup. And so beautifully done.

RomainingCalm · 09/07/2025 11:09

I think I have name changed since I ‘baggsied’ my tiaras. 👑 I even had to put a note on my phone called ‘Tiara’ just a reminder of which ones are mine, albeit I will share nicely.

I didn’t like yesterday’s pink Dior much when I first saw it but several photos later it’s grown on me and looks better. I like the formal jacket and floaty skirt and think it’s a shape that really suits Kate.

The red dress looks much better when it’s in motion and the colour is gorgeous on Kate. I think the portrait of them (where Kate has no arms) makes it look like she’s swamped in fabric.

I am smiling a bit about the Anglo-French fusion menu. Do other countries recognise the cuisine of the UK when we go abroad - I can only imagine the foreign chefs sitting around and trying to do something creative with a Yorkshire pudding, some haggis and a couple of leeks (with apologies for the terrible food stereotyping).

RomainingCalm · 09/07/2025 11:10

And yes, the table was beautiful. I also loved the red, white and blue floral display from the daytime pictures.

Cassiope · 09/07/2025 12:04

Interesting thought about the light @smilesy. If you wanted to make the ambience less gloomy, you'd go for white bone china, to reflect as much light as possible: elegant, but with so many small vases it would make for a slightly cluttered look. I think perhaps the right choice would have been smoked glass, to make the vases ‘disappear” - I don't think that would have had much effect on perceived light levels. If you absolutely insist on clear glass then make it cut glass, to break up the silhouettes of all those stems! Happily the larger centrepieces were in opaque displayware.

@WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal Surely the point of an anachronism like a monarchy is that it's somewhat immune to ‘trends’?! Mind you, I think we have to file the excuse for Sophie's rather bulky sleeves under trends...

Cassiope · 09/07/2025 12:10

@WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal
I have a challenge for you: I was looking through the photos again and came across one of the carriage ride showing the King wearing what I'm fairly sure is a white Catananche caerulea buttonhole. He also seems to be wearing a small lapel pin beside it. Can you discover what it was? My wishful thinking is conjuring a ladybird with its wing tips just peeping out at the rear.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 09/07/2025 12:10

I think they still follow some trends. Whoever does the tablescaping design will likely want it to look timeless but also fresh and vibrant and not too fuddy-duddy. The institution itself should stand immovable but the individuals within still have their own approaches to how they want things done.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 09/07/2025 12:47

I'm not an expert by any means @Cassiope but if it's very small with a pop of red then I think it's likely to be the Legion of Honour Rosette pin.

SweetBaklava · 09/07/2025 13:02

Yes I’ve definitely had a name change since my tiara allocation… I think mine is the Brabant Laurel (Q Matilde)

Choux · 09/07/2025 13:11

I am not at my computer so can’t check myself but from memory Kate, Camilla and William were all sporting similar pins last night. Kate’s was on her sash instead of a brooch.

I think that must mean there are different levels of the French honour and they have each been presented one at some point. Possibly yesterday.

Sidebeforeself · 09/07/2025 13:46

Oh I didnt realise the tiara spreadsheet was a real thing!

bluegreygreen · 09/07/2025 14:07

The Queen is at Wimbledon today - no rest after a long night!

I like that she doesn't feel she needs to be serious all the time.

I have a lovely amethyst tiara on the spreadsheet, I'm still here just very much a lurker!

Teddy589 · 09/07/2025 14:37

Checking in to the spreadsheet of splendour! Mine is Kate’s Cartier Halo (I think), I’m a few name changes down from when I nabbed it… 😀

I read that she wore that dress in Australia and that it has animals on it. But what are the animals? Are they dogs?
