Comfortable city break sandals

Littleguggi · 24/06/2025 21:44

In search of comfortable sandals for a city break.

Last resort will be softbed birkenstocks as I've had them before but wanted something different this time round.

Size 4 normal width feet. Any suggestions please?

I have regular tevas, slim tevas and two pairs of air and grace. All v comfortable.

Now I want the leather slim tevas though…

I know they are grannyish but I wear Hotter Easy sandals, you can walk for miles in them. But they are definitely not dainty ;)

I find Hotters
get really stinky though or is it just me. I have the walking sandals and tourists but they are comfy

Nothungrycat · 26/06/2025 20:29

I'd also recommend being careful about your non-daytime sandals, if you go on holiday with more than one pair of sandals and are going somewhere where you end up walking on cobbles or similar in the evening. I took my lovely Tevas and a pair of 'nice sandals' with me to Rome a few years ago. Managed to get blisters looking for a restaurant in the evening, and these then rubbed when I was back in the Tevas for the daytime...

XxTigerlilyxx · 26/06/2025 20:36

Bought the Air and Grace's this morning, but now might go back for the Teva slim leather ones too after reading all the reviews

dragonfliesanddandelions · 26/06/2025 21:10

Another Teva fan. My favourite is the midform version.

Air and Grace look pretty but I've tried their trainers and they are so narrow I haven't risked the sandals. All the models on their Instagram look like they have very squashed toes!

op try esska - they’re gorgeous and really comfortable while also pretty

RobertaFirmino · 26/06/2025 22:23

This thread has led me to the Hotter website and now I feel conflicted. There are a few styles which look alright. Have they improved their offerings of late or am I just getting old (48)?

I have these too. Several years old and still going strong

I think Tourist is a good sandal from Hotter especially when they did a narrow fit

my issue with the H sandals are the linings which make my feet sweat and the sandal smell after wear so I try my best to clean them after each wear

i don’t find that with JS or other brands

Igneococcus · 27/06/2025 08:28

I got these from Nobody's Child and they are very comfortable but because the West coast of Scotland isn't joining in with the UK heatwave I haven't actually worn them for more than two hours at a time yet. So I can't tell you if they would be good for an entire day walking around a city. But for the brief periods I have worn them so far I loved them.

Can’t beat Birkenstocks imo. I love mine, and can walk all day in them.

I spotted these in the Anthropologie sale.
Available in all sizes.

Your feet will get dirty walking round a city. Wear trainers.

Whoever recommended Air and Grace I hate you, I now have a really expensive wish list for sandals and bags! 😫😂

Edited

Sorry!!! Tbf I’ve worn my leopard ones non stop including a city break, the CPW is plummeting

Ah that’s fair - I have narrow feet and they are perfect on me, I usually have to tighten straps but these are ideal on the middle settings.

Which air & grace sandals are people buying? I love them all 😍

I got the leopard two straps version, but I’d consider the ones with the back strap if I was planning a lot more walking.

PenelopePerseveres · 27/06/2025 14:42

My Ecco sandals are the ones I choose when I am going away and can only take one pair to use both day and night. Mine are a couple of years ago so not a current style, but similar to this in black leather and nubuck combined. They are amazingly comfortable.

One reason to wear trainers is that you don't have to worry about getting sunburnt feet. I do put suncream on my feet but it's easy to miss bits, and also the suncream might cause blisters.

Littleguggi · 25/06/2025 21:09

Was just looking at these actually, any particular style you'd recommend and are they tts?

I have bad issues with my feet and having lived in birkies for years, I no longer can. My fitflops and Air & Grace have been my saviours. I have two pairs of Air and Grace, and am on my second pair of sporty fitflops for a more casual look.

I'm now waiting on the air and grace ones with the double strap AND the strap round the heel to come on sale so I can buy them too. I currently have the flip on version but prefer a secure strap for longer walks.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 27/06/2025 21:47

For those wondering about the narrowness of air & grace, I have the Gala ones. My feet are on the wide-ish side (I often find sandals difficult) and I have plenty of room in these and pulled them in a notch.

veggie50 · 28/06/2025 08:25

I'd stick to Birkenstock, you know they are comfortable. You don't want to find out a new brand doesn't quite work for you after you started your holiday. In your size (4 you said?) you can probably find a pair you like from their outlet store or failing that on eBay or Vinted for less than £100. In fact, the safest choice would be to bring a pair that you've worn, buy a new bag / some new tops to match if you want something new and shiny for your holiday. Footwear really needs to be spot on for a walk about holiday or it will ruin your fun.
