What do you wear to work if you are fat, fifty and fookin boiling hot?

I'm eyeing up my wardrobe, wondering what the hell to wear to work in the next couple of days when I have visitors at work.

It's not a suit environment so casual is ok but I would like to look cool and not a sweaty and uncomfortable blob.

Maxi dresses all seem either too strappy or frilly and flouncy.

I do trainers and DMS, so I'm not particularly a dressy person. Bit alternative perhaps. I like a lot of black or monochrome. I don't mind some bright colours. I don't do patterns and fussy stuff.

Style and beauty is not my usual stomping ground!

I'm a size 20 , 56 and wear seasalt dresses and chub rub shorts to stay cool. I know MN posters often deride seasalt as being frumpy, but I've had so many compliments from people, including complete strangers stopping me in the street to say that they really like a dress that clearly it works for me at any rate. (not something that ever happens to me normally or when I'm wearing anything else) The fabrics are also usually natural and good quality.

I've got this in stone and khaki. Cool, cotton, washed well and has pockets.

I got some linen/viscose mix trousers from Marks at the weekend. I’ve worn them today in a clammy hot school and they’ve held up well and felt quite cool.

Sale on at Boden right now Op!

Thanks everyone. Keep it coming.

I've looked at all links but none are me.

Also, can't be having polyester so some dresses I like and then they're sweaty fabric. No good.

Poetry stuff was probably most possible but pricey. Ralph Lauren... Way out of my league. Forgot MN are well off! 😁

I think I kind of hate my legs now. I think even five years ago, I would have worn a knee length or shorter dress but now I feel a bit exposed. That Boden one is nice but I wouldn't wear it to work. I can't have near legs at work I don't think. Too pasty and chubby now.

I like the idea of floaty maxi dresses BUT they seem to have those bottom flouncy bits which just annoy me.

I'm a nightmare. Maybe I need transporting to the seventies for a kaftan 🙈 or just stay away from people until winter.

I will look at Uniqlo but I think I have given up before becoming I do not understand their sizes. I'm an 18.

If you Google kaftan you'll often find kaftan style tops which can be very flattering.

Next has some gorgeous Kew-branded tunic tops. I am a fan of Leggs brand support footless tights with tunic tops.

Thank you immensely
I've never heard of Seasalt dresses before
I'm going to check them out now
Seems like they're supremely stunning & becoming 💚🤗💚
God Bless You&Yours

I’m in my “Survive the weather” capsule of floaty linen or cotton shirts, wide cotton trousers and cotton underwear.

I’m 12-14 and I went medium. There’s room in it! My daughter suggested I should go smaller but she’s obsessed with tiny fitted clothes and I wanted something that barely touched me so feels the right size to me. I don’t look like I’m wearing a bag or someone else’s clothes, I look like I’m wearing a slightly loose dress.

Mine has arrived and I love it! Medium definitely the right size choice.

My only complaint is I would prefer slightly deeper pockets.

What colour/pattern did you go for? I'm wondering if I can justify a second one...

I went for 0 Floral 447 Uk, kind of pink abstract circles. How about you?

Thatsrhesummeroverthen · 27/06/2025 23:21

That's a nice one. Mine has light blue and black circles all over it.

Same problem even though reasonable slim but I'm older. Doesn't seem to be clothing for an older lady! Found a lot of suggestions great but don't know if I can wear them.

HevenlyMeS · 28/06/2025 21:49

It can be so tricky seeking comfortable stylish, most importantly (in my humblest opinion) cool clothes sometimes
Because of my autoimmune I really suffer because my body is just unable to regulate my temperature
It doesn't stop me wishing to still look presentable as well's comfortable
So I really empathise
