Hi, I am 5ft 6", size 12/14, bust 38C. Has anyone found flattering dresses that suit a 50 year old? TIA

I got this today in ASDA, £24. I'm in my 60s and really like it, although I realise gingham and ric-rac probably appeal to my nostalgia and aren't for everyone. It also comes in black-and-white. Not sure why the solitary review gives it just one star - it's soft pure cotton and fully lined (in soft pure cotton). I'm very happy with it...

I have several “ Magic Dresses” from The Woodland Gift Company online & they are so flattering. They can fit from a size 10 to I believe a 22. Some have pockets. Available in midi or maxi. I’m 5ft 2” so have the midi style. They’re around £27.

I had a Freya virtual bra fitting earlier this year (it's free), the lady eyeballed me and came up with the exact same size as the Boob or Bust method. Worth trying if you don't have a decent shop near you.

Will try that!

Where is this wonderous place please?

Between Portsmouth and Southampton, independent bra fitter shop in Botley, called Hidden Agenda.

These look pretty, but I can’t see any photos on site showing them real people. Also hard to tell what the fabric is like- is it the soft drapey breathable sort of viscose, or the sort that is crisper to touch?

I’ve just been for a bra fitting at M and S. the woman was absolutely useless. I did two online calculators which came up with wildly differing sizes. Dropped intonBravissimo and they were too busy on do it. I think I’ve worked out my correct size in M and S .

The breathable sort

I’m short, dumpy and somewhat old, but for some reason considered stylish. I have these tunic dresses in various patterns and am often complimented (sometimes stopped in the street) when I wear them (shut your eyes to the rest of the offerings)

and on a similar thread Moutain Warehouse was recommended. The dress I bought is similarly admired

Thank you

Molecule, I like the idea of your tunics. Poor old woolovers. My mother loved them and despite my request to stop sending catalogues, they still do.

Awful cheap looking dresses

bruffin · 21/08/2025 11:40

That was to the spammer who was deleted

piscofrisco · 21/08/2025 12:42

Look at Cupshe -they have clothes as well as swimwear and I’ve had lots of very flattering well cut dresses from
there

PinkPoetry · 22/09/2025 12:22

I got a couple of dresses from froxoffalkirk.com last month and was really surprised by how flattering they were, especially around the waist and bust. I’m about a size 16 and struggle to find summer dresses that don’t make me feel frumpy, but theirs had a nice shape without clinging. They also had good-length sleeves and weren’t see-through, which is a win for me.
