I hope William has the wit to not have such an embarrassing and tone deaf display of obscene wealth, privilege and unrelateable nonsense.

He needs to look to Denmark for an example of how to do it.

Oh, if we have to have a RF, then we should also have all the jewels and carriages and sparkly stuff. There is, for me, something a little distasteful and patronising in the pared down look. Because it is just a look. We know they’ve still got all the “stuff”. We just don’t get to see it.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 15/06/2025 14:16

I hope we'll see a new tiara on Catherine for the State visit coming up.

PomeloOud · 15/06/2025 14:16

I think since Catherine has become Princess of Wales her style on the very formal occasions is really dignified, appropriate to her age and rank.

I think Kate dresses like someone 20 or 30 years older. She’s only there to show off clothes and be photographed, the least she could do is not be so bloody safe.

HonoriaBulstrode · 15/06/2025 14:39

is this the French one? They didn't wear tiaras at the banquet when the K&Q visited France, so maybe not.

I hope they bring it all on for the Trump visit. All the Royals in all the tiaras at the banquet. I do think Camilla wears a tiara well.

I agree. Not wearing the tiaras is pointless and it's nice to see historical bling. If they aren't going to wear them they might as well sell the lot.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 15/06/2025 14:44

Oh that's true. Sigh.

Yes I guess we'll see what happens for Trump's visit.

Camilla even manages to make the Burmese Ruby tiara look good! I always thought it looked faintly ridiculous when QEII wore it...

I'll never understand why certain posters get their knickers in a twist about what the Wales children wear. They go to schools where they dress formally/traditionally. The clothes they wore at trooping aren't going to be weird for them. Charlotte's dress was very pretty, but unfussy. Not too dissimilar to a school summer dress, but obviously much nicer! We see them in casual clothes all the time, they are not trussed up in formal attire their whole lives. She and her mum were beaming at one another from the pictures I have seen - not uncomfortable or unhappy at all.

Camilla can make any tiara look proportionate, it must be her hairstyle.

Or give them to us..! Off to the Cartier exhibition this week and I cannot wait!!!

Ohhh @Sidebeforeself enjoy! I'm hoping to go later in the year.

Meh, she's not dressed like every other celeb out there. She's showing styles you don't see on anyone else, and that to me is fashion forward. There are plenty of us who enjoy feasting our eyes on a bit of vintage-style tailoring.

Exactly the thread I referenced earlier looking for smarties trousers for DS who was in aged 8 shorts for fit at the waist band and aged 14 trousers for length was full of loads of aww let the poor kid wear joggers (the one thing he can never get to fit so doesn't wear anyway) posts. At no point did I say I was trying to get him into something formal against his will or say he preferred casual clothes. He was more than happy to pop on a pair of chinos, a shirt and some smart shoes the problem was trying to find any that fitted. (I found size 6 and 7 shoes for boys a nightmare -almost nothing in the kids range but too small for the men's range.

Sigh. I don’t get my knickers in a twist. And I didn’t say she looked uncomfortable. She looked very smiley. I just think it was a dull dress, and I hoped it was her choice, rather than chosen to fit the brand. Other people are making a much bigger deal out of it than I did!

It was another poster who said she looked uncomfortable. At the risk of sounding like thread police, these threads have been set up by @Maireas for commenting on all the royals clothes and style and they are very enjoyable as such. Some posts on here recently have been barely veiled judgy attacks on some members of the RF. There are plenty of other threads for that ( I freely admit to participating in some). Shall we try and keep this thread to its original purpose?

Maireas · 15/06/2025 15:30

Thanks, @smilesy very timely.
There is a whole board on here devoted to the RF. The threads can get very controversial and somewhat combative. We'd like that not to be brought over here. It doesn't usually happen, but there has been a lot of negativity today about the people rather than the clothes and judgement about their role.
Lots of opportunity to start critical threads on the RF section.

Yes, that's what makes her different.

And she is different. She's royalty, and the royals aren't celebrities. I don't want to see her dressing in what celebs think is "edgy".

Seagullsandsausagerolls · 15/06/2025 15:35

I think Charlotte's dress is very appropriate for her age, she is however very tall and looks older than 10. It's going to be a very tricky balance for them in the next few years as she heads into her teens and the inevitable body changes. Much easier for the boys.

PurplebeadedFendi · 15/06/2025 15:37

@Maireas apologies if I have contributed to the negativity. I don't like seeing a child being singled out and inferences made about her from one dress at one event. My style comment on Charlotte's dress is that it is pared down and pretty, very classic and similar the sort of unfussy, not too girly, transitional piece my own daughter would have worn at that age - and you couldn't get my kid into anything she didn't want to wear!

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 15/06/2025 15:38

Yes quite. Catherine is not a celebrity. She doesn't owe anyone 'interesting' and is perfectly entitled to dress however she deems right. And I say that as someone who jumps and cheers when she mixes it up a bit here and there!

The universe of 'celebrity' and that of 'Monarchy/family of the Head of State' are vastly different, and should absolutely remain so.

Afternoon all

Thank you @Maireasfor the new thread. Lots of reading but not posting lately!

Liked the colour of PoW outfit but not too fussed on the dress. Hat was chefs kiss.
Charlotte looked lovely.
Sophie - meh
Bizarrely I haven’t seen QC outfit (must search!)

I couldn’t agree more. For the avoidance of doubt, are you allowed to say you don’t like someone’s dress much?
