Hi, 54 years old a have always been very lucky with my skin. However a very difficult year has taken its toll and I feel it shows in my face.

Can someone help with a routine and some decent products? I've researched but I'm overwhelmed with the selection. I have fine lines appearing and I just want to get my glow back as I realise there is no reversing to aging! Skin is normal and it's lucky if it sees a make up wipe currently to be honest!! Not too worried about budget

I'm 56 and felt exactly the same OP.
I have used Origins since I was 40 and always been happy. They have started to change all their products, over the last few years, and I like them less.
I bit the bullet and have gone for a Skin and Me prescription. Only started on Saturday so can't tell you anything at all, but just my thought process.

Don’t get skin + me. Get renew + me which is their sister brand specialty for midlife skin. Tretinoin and other goodies specially for midlife.

Ndd1356387 · 09/06/2025 08:16

Yeah but renew + me from the same company is for midlife skin

I love Elf halo glow. I'm 55 and I've never really worn make up or used skincare and my skin is really good. I bit of halo glow and brow pencil dies make a difference though.

Excitedannie · 09/06/2025 08:46

Thank you all - funnily enough I looked at skin + me only yesterday but then chickened out!

The active ingredients are tretinoin, azelaic acid and niacinamide which is the same as my Skin + Me. Think it’s the same stuff just marketed squarely at the older age group.

Definitely tret OP, makes such a difference.

Took me ages to pluck up the courage too 🤣
My prescription is Tretinoin 0.006%
Niacinamide 4%
Azelaic Acid 4%

It has more stuff in it for midlife skin. Go for the serum in a cream.

Puppylucky · 09/06/2025 18:20

Just to chip in that I have transitioned from Skin + Me to Renew+ Me recently and there is a big difference! Renew + Me is far more nourishing and my skin overall feels happier. Skin +Me is brilliant but it is drying and I often felt I had to use a moisturizer after it. So I would definitely recommend Renew + Me for a more sensitive/ mature skin - and no I'm not pushing a code!

Here goes my routine if you would be interested:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
Garnier spf
Cicaplast
Evening:
LRP moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

Thortour · 06/12/2025 09:14

In the morning I use Penta Berry Panthenol repair cream followed by Celimax Dual Barrier watery Sun Cream (SPF 50).
At night I use Tret four times a week and on the other days I use Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Capsules and Rapid Skin Renewing Water Cream. I think I’m missing vitamin c but I need to incorporate it at some point.

Tret is love!

AM

Splash water on face

Vitamin C right now I'm using the Ordinary Multi Anti Ox serum. This helps the glow

Peptides. the Ordinary Cu peptide serum the change is subtle, but my skin doesn't look as good when I stop using it

Snail gel Cos rx Advanced Power Essence this is the one that really gives my skin that glow

If it's very cold and windy, I put an occlusive layer over this like Aquaphor

Sunscreen using Beauty of Joseon tinted sunscreen

PM

Cleanse with gentle cleanser, CeraVe or Simple or Cetaphil

Retinol most nights Byoma retinol oil

Moisturize Kiehl's Ultra. It's too much for summer but just right for winter. In summer, I use CeraVe PM with ceramides.

GrimDamnFanjo · 06/12/2025 17:30

Vitamin c and tret, spf, microneedling, led therapy, Botox if that’s your thing.

Do you use tret post your botox sessions?

Kaftanqween · 08/12/2025 10:54

I have transformed my skin this year. I’m 59. I might add a pic because the glow I have achieved is amazing. A year ago I was using tret and expensive moisturiser as my skin was so dry. I gave up the tret in favour of a more general, gentle retinoid. I also added in vit c and a hyaluronic moisturiser. SPF of course. I’ve started using beauty pie products and have been really pleased with the cost and quality. I use an led mask most days. My skin looks the best it ever has. I do wear make up but the very light lisa Eldridge skin tint is enough now.

slightlysnippy · 08/12/2025 11:06

Never heard of Renew + me, so no comment on its quality, I would be wary if you’ve never used retinol to start of on one ‘20 times more potent’ than most other brands, worth doing some research on how to introduce retinol into your skin care. Medik8 good brand and has lower potency options.

Oddballs123 · 08/12/2025 11:42

I don't think you need to invest in expensive products or sign up to subscription, I would try THE ORDINARY they are low budget but have some really good products and I also use THE INKEY LIST they have a 1% retinol serum which I swear by you just have to be careful not to use it more than recommend and the Bio-Active ceramide Moisturiser I use night and day it will last quite a while as a little goes a long way. I normally purchase from Lookfantastic they have a good rewards system too.

Breltrin · 08/12/2025 19:27

I would recommend low strength tretinoin to use as a treatment. I've also used Renew+Me whose packaging is excellent or Monderma as theirs is vegan and micronised. Use a squalane cleanser, moisturise in the morning and apply SPF50 too.

Skin+Me dried my skin out terribly, whereas Renew+Me and Dermaticia were fine

Can I jump on and ask @Kaftanqween the details of your routine as I am keen to get a routine in place but my skin is very dry and sensitive

I prefer tretinoin, azelaic acid and niacinamide as well. Prior to that Monderma's hydroquinone 4% mostly faded my facial hyperpigmentation.
