No more cardigans what do I wear

I've decided I don't like cardigans I just feel frumpy in them, I don't mind long ones to shin bone, I have 6 short cardigans that I keep trying to pass on when I declutter but they always end back in my wardrobe unworn, just incase, that includes a hoodie, I have 3 and never wear them, what can I wear instead, its just this kind of weather where you have on sleeveless top and it turns chilly.

Well, to be honest, it’s cardigan weather. You just need to wrap yourself up in a cardi & learn to love it. 😬

slowraindrop · 07/06/2025 17:15

A boxy jacket from Uniqlo

mynameiscalypso · 07/06/2025 17:15

In what circumstances? I feel similar about cardigans - other than when I’m slobbing at home - so I wear more blazers these days but that’s not always the right vibe!

OriginalUsername2 · 07/06/2025 17:17

I like cosy sweatshirts.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 07/06/2025 17:18

A shawl? I have a couple of light wool wrap things that I throw over my shoulders if I get a bit chilly... Being, er, larger in the bust area, I completely agree with you on the issue ofcardigans!

PomeloOud · 07/06/2025 17:19

There are cardigans and there are cardigans.

Waterfall style, or those that finish on the bum are frumpy, but many are not.

I have 3 cardigans from whistles I bought last year. I liked the first one so much, and got so many comments, I bought it in 3 colours. It’s a thick cotton v neck with 3 big buttons. It’s quite cropped and I wear it on its own with wide legged slouchy trousers, so it shows a little bit of tum. I also have a few boxy/jacket style ones. So versatile.

thedevilinablackdress · 07/06/2025 17:26

Give up cardigans?? What madness is this?
But if you insist, then probably a shirt of some sort. Denim or flannel or linen.

lindyloo57 · 07/06/2025 17:28

I had mine over ten years, hardly worn so still in great condition, I think maybe the style is out of date, although they are mainly short ones just below the waist, I've been looking online the one I like the look of, is from hush cream/beige with no buttons but it's very expensive more than I would like to pay.

I’m the opposite, I find the long ones feel frumpy on me. I wear knitted jumpers instead.

MoominMai · 07/06/2025 17:50

@lindyloo57 maybe a lightweight open Shacket would suit you better as a throw over?

declutteringmymind · 07/06/2025 17:51

Or a soft bomber.

try not to go poncho tho.

Doggymummar · 07/06/2025 17:57

Having lost 6 stone i am embracing cardigans. Particularly on days like today. I also have some quilted jackets and I've got so many hoodies as well and zipped cardigan hoodies which I couldn't wear when I had big boobs. I think it's difficult with enormous boobs, I was 36 JJ they did look matronly but now 33 F they look kind of cute.

Perhaps a v neck jumper would be better on you ? Just remembered I got some cashmere tank tops too, nice with a sleeved t shirt under

menopausalfart · 07/06/2025 18:03

I bought a lovely Hush cardi today. I have quite a few cardigans. They're great for this kind of weather. You just need to find a shape that suits you.

Beetletweetle · 07/06/2025 18:04

They're not called cardigans anymore. They're called 'knitted jackets'.

Now you can wear your 'knitted jackets' without concern.

Floisme · 07/06/2025 18:12

I'm starting to like the short (waist or hip length) round neck ones again. Got a couple out of the cupboard recently. I'd hang on in there op.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 07/06/2025 18:12

I wear overshirts over a more fitted T shirt or top.
currently I'm wearing an ancient favourite next shirt( with the poppers)
I also have soft brushed grey and beige ones( Uniqlo) A blue/ pink check one from fat face, A beige/cream checked one( Uniqlo)
The best part is They're all from Vinted for £2-3 each!
I run hot though so hardly ever need a jacket

Gettingbysomehow · 07/06/2025 20:14

I like the summer weight crochet style cardigans, they keep their shape and hang well. I also have a denim and a camo shirt as alternatives.
I prefer sweatshirts when I get cold anyway or a light jumper.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/06/2025 20:51

I wonder if different styles of cardigan might be worth investigating? I love a cardi! I have nice crew necked ones from Cos and Urban Outfitters which are ever so slightly cropped/boxy and think they look particularly good over a round neck tee.

Today I’m in a pale grey v-neck alpaca cardigan from &OS with stripy linen trousers from Cotton On, white Uniqlo t-shirt, and Birkenstock clogs. Perfect spring outfit for a rainy day.

NegroniMacaroni · 07/06/2025 21:11

My brain is struggling to compute a life with no cardigans. Personally, I like a short-length cardigan with a collar and/or zip.

TheOGCCL · 07/06/2025 21:50

Looser or with a collar or pockets or buttons or v neck. I’ll never stop wearing short cardigans. I just got a new one in a charity shop for £2.

Longhotsummers · 07/06/2025 23:04

I like the boxy shape ones that seem to be everywhere at the moment - Uniqlo, M and S. I’ve got two Uniqlo ones and they’re lovely to wear and are a nice weight, so are more structured.

Complete madness. Agree ditch waterfall cardigans but the idea that a sweatshirt could be better than a cardigan from the likes of Palava, &Daughter or Brora doesn't bear thinking about.

A few months ago, I would have said the same. However, having recently tried on a few lovely but lightweight cardigans, I really felt dated in them. (Am loathe to use the word frumpy but tbh, that is how I felt).

Thick, chunky cardigans are a different matter as they're more like jackets, but 'summer' cardigans are something I can't imagine wearing for a long time yet. I do like sweatshirts but they're not a substitute. Have started to wear more open/belted/knotted shirts in lieu of cardigans, Am really enjoying this.

When I win the lottery, I am going to buy 10 Palava cardigans and wear them with 10 black cotton dresses on rotation.
