Cool, lightweight, sleeveless cotton dress for holiday to Crete

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I've just booked a holiday in Crete (going in 2 weeks!) and I'm frantically looking for a really lightweight sleeveless summer dress. I've checked the temperatures and it looks like it's going to be about 30°... Most of the dresses I've got are going to be a bit hot, I think 🤔

I'm a size 12/14, 5'7" early 50s. I don't want anything too short (prefer midi/maxi).

I've got this vision of wafting around in a cool floaty 100% cotton dress, but everything I've seen seems to be polyester, too heavy/lined, or massively puffy/ballooning sleeves etc. (I'd like sleeveless but maybe not spaghetti straps).

Any thoughts? Budget around £50, could go higher. Colours - blue, pink, white, aqua, sage green... possibly black or red. Would consider a pattern but generally prefer plain.

Any help greatly appreciated!

I’ve recently rediscovered Pull and Bear any good

WolfFoxHare · 07/06/2025 16:28

I got some nice sleeveless/strappy beach dresses from monsoon earlier this year. They’re opaque so fine to wear just as a summer dress.

SiobahnRoy · 07/06/2025 16:35

Same age, height and size. I recommend H&M and monsoon/accessorize also Vinted for jigsaw bargains

Thank you for this - I've never heard of them.
At first glance they look a bit skimpy for me but I'll have a good look through!

Thank you - I'm not usually a massive fan of Monsoon (I feel that their stuff can be a bit fussy?) but I'll have a good look through their website. Happy with the idea of a beach dress - I don't want anything too formal.

Forgot to say that I have blonde(ish) hair and blue eyes and I suit cool colours.

Thank you. I'll definitely search Vinted for Jigsaw stuff - I hadn't thought of them.

Broderie cotton dress in pretty green, reduced to £47, H&M?

Have you looked at Seasalt ?
Quite a few on their website, linen or organic cotton - prices range from £65 to £85.
I know they’re a bit “marmite” on MN, but the quality is great and would fit your brief.

MissFritton65 · 07/06/2025 18:56

Have a look at Cos. This one is lovely but over budget! Green dress

SiobahnRoy · 07/06/2025 18:58

H&M

TheLongRider · 07/06/2025 19:09

Ok, hear me out - Primark. Cotton maxi black or white

Look at The Edit collection in Primark. They have another modal/polyester dark navy with a beige stripe and pockets!

TheLongRider · 07/06/2025 19:11

There's also a sleeveless cotton poplin Khaki sleeveless dress and a poplin skirt that could pass for COS.

It's a shame you want a longer one because the blue one here (but without a belt) is really nice: Linen Rich V-Neck Mini Shift Dress | M&S Collection | M&S

I just don't think my legs are up to it - maybe I won't care if it's really hot! Do you think it would work as a cover up for the pool side?

I like Seasalt for their quality but I just don't think of them for lightweight beach dresses. I will have a look though, thank you.

Ooh - thank you. Some really nice ones here. Do you know what they are like for sizing?

Have you looked at vinted? You can apply filters to narrow down your search.

SiobahnRoy · 07/06/2025 19:46

That last Vinted one wasn’t right sorry, was multi tasking (unsuccessfully!)

I’m tempted by this one though
