They are too long in the rise for you. Would suits mid rise better than these which are high rise.

the first pair with the pockets look like they are on backwards. Like your bum in on your front.

alternatively look at linen or linen blend shorts. I think they may suit your shape better, are more fashionable, more refined and just as easy to wear on the beach or on the weekend as denim.

waltzingparrot · 03/06/2025 13:07

La Redoute has a sale on denim shorts at the moment, including top brands.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/06/2025 13:07

I like them both OP, though perhaps the ones without patch pockets slightly have the edge on you. I like the looser leg style, close fitting ones are fine when you are walking about, but can cut into even the slimmest legs when you are sitting down.

Toomuchstufff · 03/06/2025 13:30

the cuffed pair, out of the two. FWIW on skinny legs I found cut off vintage levis to be more flattering than anything created as shorts.

oustedbymymate · 03/06/2025 13:34

Where's the second pair from?

tinyspiny · 03/06/2025 13:41

I like the second pair ( turn ups) , they look incredibly similar to my current favourite shorts which are from Costco .

cannaethink · 03/06/2025 14:22

Going against the grain here but I think the first pair. I don’t like the turn ups.
I think loose on the thighs looks better than tight. I got a pair in Primark last week, sturdy denim, fitted on the hips and wider on the thighs. I was intending on starting my denim shorts search when I randomly spotted them and they’re perfect.
Also, I like the look of the Topshop Editor shorts on asos

princesspadam · 03/06/2025 14:34

They are both Mango

I like the second pair without the front pockets, they look great on you op

mumto2teenagers · 03/06/2025 14:45

They both look great on you, but I prefer the 2nd pair.

Flippinec · 03/06/2025 14:54

2nd ones. I have a pair very similar from primark. Like you I prefer a baggier fit.

Cotswoldmama · 03/06/2025 15:33

The second are much nicer but would be more flattering slightly shorter, I would turn them up once more. I don't like the look of the stretch shorts others have posted, I think shorter is fine if they're not skin tight.
Also age is just a number, you've got great legs show them off!

Toomuchleopard · 03/06/2025 15:47

They both look great, I can’t believe anyone is saying anything negative. The Matalan long black ones are horrendous- stay away from them

ZaZathecat · 03/06/2025 17:25

You look great in both, and I think it's only the angle, looking down your legs, that makes them look at big for your thighs

HeadingOutForJog · 03/06/2025 17:33

Both look good on you but I think the second pair look best.

You have great legs!

princesspadam · 04/06/2025 09:36

Thanks I’ve kept the 2nd ones now 👍🏻

KatyS36 · 04/06/2025 09:42

I adore the second pair. I love that look, beachy and relaxed.
That is how I would love to look in shorts!

Koazy · 04/06/2025 09:51

keep looking. M&S had a super pair last year but they went viral and sold out everywhere

Lavendersong · 04/06/2025 14:46

I like No 2 which is turned up

You have great legs so a shorter short would suit you

Verite1 · 04/06/2025 15:13

Cheffymcchef · 02/06/2025 22:09

I don’t think either flatter your frame particularly well. They both look too big/wide in the leg for you. The least bad are the ones on the right, purely as the turn up cuffs help a bit, and the giant pockets on set one will make your hips appear wider. You would suit something with a bit of a slimmer fit in the leg. Doesn’t have to be skinny fit. You are lovely and slim and both pairs make you look chunkier purely down to the bad cut of them.

Edited

I disagree completely. I don’t think that either pair make you look “chunky”. How could they after all. I much prefer the second pair though. Both the cut and the design.

MixedFeelingsNoFeelings · 04/06/2025 15:29

I prefer the second pair too. I'm in the same boat as you OP - slim legs, so you'd think we'd be fine in shorts, but the shapeless style that's everywhere now makes me feel (and look) like an old geezer from the 1950s!

Tighter shorts look a bit too out of style even for me, and I'm not that bothered about having the latest cut of jeans or whatever. The search for baggy-but-in-a-cool-way shorts continues. Probably something only the more expensive brands can pull off 😠

Zoec1975 · 04/06/2025 20:18

ThisCoralKoala · 02/06/2025 22:11

I like them both but the second pair are the nicest. I like the turn-up cuffs on the bottom. They’re not meant to be fitted, so they both look lovely

Second pair same

Tinytotdriver · 04/06/2025 21:47

OvernightBloats · 03/06/2025 11:45

I think these would suit you

Vero Moda Stretch Denim Shorts | Freemans

I agree, this style would look great on you!

MidnightMeltdown · 05/06/2025 18:29

Going against the grain but I prefer the first pair. They look neater than the roll up type
