i hate my arms so living in vest and shirt combos at the moment and it’s driving me mad.

looking online I am really struggling to find anything that’s either not frumpy or not a crop top?!

I bought this recently in a 16. I know it's black so not very summery, but honestly, it's so flattering even if it looks like nothing spesh in the photo: https://www.jdwilliams.co.uk/shop/p/fv581

PersephoneSmith · 29/05/2025 15:03

try JD Williams/Simply Be

How about this? They have them in solid colours too including a lovely olive shade. Lisa Snowdon showed them on This Morning today. https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E475650-000/00 www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E475650-000/00]]]]

I love the Nomads recommendation someone posted, they have some lovely things.

Roman do some nice tops with longer arms. I'm 14/16 with very flabby upper arms so I like to be covered to the elbows! Here's a couple of suggestions, but it's worth having a browse as there are loads:

Hi, can I ask how you found out that? Did someone tell you or did you use a guide or something? I'm even shorter than you at just a smidge over 5' but have often wondered if I'm in proportion, or have 'long' legs or a 'long' torso.

Firstly it was obvious if I tried a fitted shift dress, the waist falls where my hips start.
Then my daughter who is the same height as me has to adjust the driving seat in her car after I’ve been driving it as she can’t reach the pedals properly.
Often short trousers are too short on me.
Lastly, I’ve been going to a local seamstress to get dresses shortened and she lifts and pins the shoulders and lo and behold the wrap top stops gaping, the waist sits properly and the dress no longer needs shortening!

F1LandoFan · 29/05/2025 16:46

We’re a similar size. I tend to get all my tops from next! And if it’s a sleeveless I’ll wear a very thin cardigan x

Wallawallakoala · 29/05/2025 16:54

Some gorgeous ideas I’m going to have a good look now I think you lot have sorted me out thank you so much!

I’ve discovered I have a short body and longer legs relatively speaking, (long legs when you’re 5ft 2 is a bit of a stretch).
I have found a seamstress locally who is reasonably priced and she shortens things for me at the shoulders, the results are little short of miraculous, wrap tops no longer expose the girls, and it takes about a stone off my figure!

Oh I need this, everything is always too big on the shoulders/back for me. I don't suppose you're in Essex? 😂 How did you find the seamstress?

Wallawallakoala · 29/05/2025 17:08

Yeah I’ve tried shein and if I get the 0XL it seems to fit body wise then too square or big on the shoulders maybe I’m just a weird shape? A lot of places think if you are a size 16/18 you are tall or broad but you can be that size and petite too… but then some of the petite stuff is too short 🙈

Got some nice tops from Debenhams, Yours and Wallis

Seconding Yours and also Wallis.

Ive had some nice tops from Next, they also do a lot of other shops items online. Roman has a big range of styles, and is pretty good on quality and price, these are also on the Next website.

Buying online has the benefit of you trying on at home, so you can see what goes with what, if you follow?

I am short, but big of boob, so I have to buy my tops bigger than I need to get them to do up! 🌸

South Wales, I’m afraid not Essex!
I found the seamstress via a community Facebook group.

The kit and kaboodal tops look like sacks, no shape. Those of us who are 16/18 still want to look nice!

top I’m in today is seasalt, linen with darts so not a sack!

crazeekat · 29/05/2025 17:45

Honestly. Get on vinted.
go online. Look up the styles and brands you like. Then do not buy a thing before looking on vinted to find similar. U can get new stuff too. Fraction of cost. Now I totally grudge paying anything full price lol

I've just spent a small fortune on this site, never heard of them before

Crikeyalmighty · 29/05/2025 19:00

@RubyMentor we have a stall on Saturdays in Bath on the main drag that sells a ton of stuff that looks totally like this- in linen fabric - - I’ve bought some nice tops from there for around £20 too .

I’ll tap them up for some commission!

Crikeyalmighty · 29/05/2025 19:02

@minnienono yes despite saying I have some similar tops - my H says they are a bit ‘sacklike’ and don’t do much for me -well he’s honest!

I’ve got some 16-18 stuff for sale on Vinted atm.
I’ll put more up when this lot sells.

Please could you give details? My daughter is currently living in Cardiff and is desperate to find a good seamstress. Her old one retired and the older gent who took her room is useless.

This lady is in Swansea.
She does lots of wedding/prom dress alterations.
Is that too far?

I agree. I’ve bought several things from Kit and Kaboodle and most things were fairly shapeless. I’ve ended up sending almost everything back as the quality was really poor.
