Trouser for a city break

TealReader · 25/05/2025 07:43

I am searching for a pair of trousers for a city break in Scandinavia in early July. All suggestions welcome!

Something comfortable, ideally with a an elastic or partially elasticated waist. Cool toned but not black or navy. Cropped wide leg or barrel leg. Not 100% linen as I do not plan to do any ironing on holidays. I am 5ft 5, very hourglass shaped, size 14/16. I plan to wear with clogs, teva walking sandals or white low profile trainers. Elastic waist is to avoid waist gapping! I am building a quality capsule wardrobe so happy to spend up to £250 for a good quality trouser that will last. I would like this to be a smart piece which can be dressed up or down.

Considering Sweaty Betty barrel explorers in mineral beige but not sure if they look too much like joggers? Also I’m not terribly keen on high pleats as conscious of my very wide hips. www.sweatybetty.com/eu/shop/bottoms/trousers/explorer-barrel-leg-trousers-5059121997794.html?glCountry=IE&glCurrency=EUR&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21924524548&gbraid=0AAAAA9gu6CsxlWkENAlaoChZpnadeE1K_&gclid=CjwKCAjw3MXBBhAzEiwA0vLXQRd22wUG0YUoMUWqnFrJZqiTF_Kg-PpMozWoc6Xxrxidmrk1TpmsQRoCWkoQAvD_BwE

Uniqlo have some nice linen blend one with elasticated waists. Very comfortable.

RampantIvy · 25/05/2025 07:49

M and S have cargo pants and chinos in different colours. I have been holidaying in Scotland and have worn my cargoes most of the time.

TealReader · 25/05/2025 07:56

Thanks - I will take a look at Uniqlo. I should have added- I don’t want cargo pants as the pockets serve to further highlight my large thighs. Ditto to front pockets. Also I don’t live close to M&S and they appear to be planning to never restart online shopping so they are out!

What about these from Hush? https://www.hush-uk.com/cordi-barrel-leg-trouser-steel-blue/012226-1820.html
ive just ordered them in khaki and am hopeful!

divingworldchampion · 25/05/2025 07:56

Oh I have just seen your comment about front pockets. Ignore my suggestion!

TealReader · 25/05/2025 07:58

Thank you, I had seen the Hush ones but don’t think that front pockets shape works for me.

I realise the problem is that I’ve decided precisely what I want but it doesn’t seem to exist!

Another vote for Uniqlo. I bought some (fill length) in April and had to go back and buy another pair, and have wanted to wear them every day. Received compliments too.

NothingTraLaLa · 25/05/2025 08:06

Have you seen the Asana line from Nine Pine? I have a few pairs. Soft, stretchy, no waist gap. They do have pockets but they aren’t visible and I don’t tend to put anything in them so I have a smoother line. Lots of colours and leg lengths.

TealReader · 25/05/2025 08:15

What Uniqlo trousers do you recommend?

What is the sizing like on Ninepine Nothing? I’ve had them advertised to me on social media but never actually tried them.

I love my Asana pants. Their long length are perfect for me.

Have a look at Lucy and Yak

Ophy83 · 25/05/2025 08:32

Have you looked at me&em? They have lots of options e.g. https://www.meandem.com/shirred-waist-culotte-black

I'm the same size as you and find their clothes are really flattering (when I can afford them!)

TealReader · 25/05/2025 08:36

I love Me&Em and those black ones are fab but I’m really trying to wear less black, especially in summer (my wardrobe is over 50% black right now!)

@TealReader I have both straight leg and wide leg Asanas in small with a 26in leg. I’m 5’0” with a 29in waist and they fit really well, although my waist is at the upper end of the size guide for small. There is plenty of stretch if I’ve had a large meal 😁 but my daughter with a 26in waist can wear them without a waist gap as well.

TealReader · 25/05/2025 08:50

My waist is 29in too but my hips around 44!!! So trouser shopping is a nightmare

OP posts:
NothingTraLaLa · 25/05/2025 09:02

I can see that would be tricky. My hips are 39in so again at the top end of a small. I could imagine a medium working for you as you would be at the very bottom end of waist measurements and top end of hips.

DiggoryVenn · 25/05/2025 09:22

These are the Uniqlo ones Uniqlo easy trousers but they do them in different leg shapes too

Grizelofthechaletschool · 25/05/2025 10:45

I think these are the Uniqlo ones pps were mentioning. I have them and just did a long weekend in Paris with them. No need to iron, they drape well, they’re comfy, they go with everything. They have longer length as well if you’re tall www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E473791-000/00?colorDisplayCode=32&sizeDisplayCode=003

Booboobagins · 26/05/2025 08:23

Have a look at You Know Who - bengaline trousers are perfect! They pack small are ultra comfy and are inexpensive.

Ive just got back from a wet and sunny weekend in Austria - they are pretty good in the wet and cool and even white ones stayed pristine!

Koulibiak · 26/05/2025 12:54

Personally I would avoid barrel style if you want this to be an investment piece. I know it’s all the rage at the moment, but I think it will go out of fashion very quickly and will look dated.

would any of these work? https://www.sezane.com/en-en/collection/bottoms/cropped

ForHeartyPeachOtter · 26/05/2025 13:21

I love my cropped wide leg trousers from H&M. Great summer fabric and they come in lots of designs. I wear the brown ones all the time.

I got some of these last week in black and they’re so comfy and flattering. I’m a 16 and the extra large fits mr great, not too loose. There’s loads of other colours and they don’t crease too bad either. Happy holidays. 🙂

MMAMPWGHAP · 26/05/2025 18:40

+1 for the Uniqlo ones. I went back for a second pair. And have had people ask me about them.
