One piece swimming costume with shorts but a strappy top with built in bra?

Think it might be the holy grail. I'm looking for a new costume for holiday. I prefer a shorts style bottom (rather than a skirt). I'm 59 and have a reasonable figure for my age. I'm around 5'10 and size 12 and relatively proportionate.

I don't however want a sports style top to the costume as that looks overly heavy on me, I prefer a thin strap. Also, I need cups, my boobs are not as perky as they once were so without leaves me squished a bit lower than is flattering.

Anyone come across anything that might fit the bill? Plain colour preferred.

Have a look on the modlily site. Lots of great designs on there.

BigBoysDontCry · 18/05/2025 16:30

Thanks, I'll have a browse :)

Bloomchic also have something - just bought one like this and it’s great.

Attictroll · 18/05/2025 19:59

I tried lots on last year and ended up buying this in another colour despite it being the cheapest. Good bum coverage, cups and supporting straps. They have it in a few colours if you look. https://www.argos.co.uk/product/tuc145280365?clickPR=plp:39:81

Thanks both, I'll have a look on that website. That looks lovely Arctictroll but I wanted one with shorts.

Bloom chic seems to be only plus size unless I'm on the wrong site?

I was looking for maybe something like this but with a bit more support in the bust, I'd have given this a try but I think it was last years and is now out of stock 😔

Oh that is a lot! I've actually just been looking at something pretty similar on a site called Sea Fancy. I guess it's maybe a rip off of that site....

I'd technically prefer straps rather than halter and it is a bit more ruchy than I'd ideally want but I'll keep looking or maybe give this one a try. Thank you 😊

I was going to suggest Sea Fancy, I keep looking at them but have yet to actually buy from there! Love to know how you get on if you do.

Londonmummy66 · 19/05/2025 09:35

I gather Seafancy gets some dire reviews and customer service/returns are problematic - v annoying as I love the look of their costumes. I have this one and have had quite a few compliments on it. https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/women's-swimming-1-piece-shorty-swimsuit-dova-navy-blue/_/R-p-353109?mc=8891598&c=steel+blue

ImFineItsAllFine · 19/05/2025 09:45

I've got that Seafancy one OP, I'm really pleased with it although I do love a halter neck. There's not really much in the way of bust support though, just a couple of little removable pads

They do take ages to arrive and I've not tried the returns process.

RoofTopSingers · 19/05/2025 09:46

Seafancy's return address is New York so if you don't like them or in my case if they do not fit at all then you have to fork the return shipping. They did give me a partial refund as it would appear they don't want people to return them.

I do think this is the Holy Grail of swimming costumes, "Boy short" costumes (hate that term) usually come with a more sporty style top part, rather than as you say straps and cups. I have also been looking for this for a few years hence Seafancy but that didn't work out for me.

Seafolly at over £100 for a swimming costume is ridiculous.

BigBoysDontCry · 19/05/2025 09:52

Thanks all for the feedback, I've not ordered anything yet. It's just so hard isn't it? I don't want it to be sporty as such, nor sexy, just feminine and supportive but with a short style bottom. I'm not 4, I don't want a frilly skirt and Im also not in the Olympics or a beach babe.

Why is it so difficult?

I appreciate all the help though.

I'm not large chested ( c cup) so don't need masses of support but I'm mature and breast fed 2 babies so don't want to be squished flat about 10cm below where my boobs should sit 😂

Sea Fancy has some awful reviews on Trust Pilot. I would approach with caution.

Amazon has some. I’ve bought swimwear from Amazon before and have had to go for an XL when I’m a size 12-14, so you may need to size up.

On holiday, I wear short board shorts (with sewn in pants) and a tankini top.

Gudrun Sjöden?

Not sure it's quite what you are after. I've not had any of their swimwear so don't know about quality etc, but in general the brand has good quality clothes.

Oh I hadn't thought about Amazon, thanks.

I did think about separates but being quite tall, they often ride up. I seem to be somewhere between normal and tall in term of body length, the tall versions tend to be a little too loose so I usually just go for normal and put up with the shoulders digging in.

Thanks again all.

Speedo endurance plus legsuit has shorts and bust support but might be too sporty.

ParentingRollerCoaster · 19/05/2025 11:39

I see a lot more shorts this year than in recent times.. my daughter is thrilled!! But two pieces.. so not what you are looking for.

Also Sea Folly are definitely worth the price.

Dogaredabomb · 19/05/2025 11:49

I bought a black swim bra from elomi. It's as good support as a bra and opens up choices for swimming tops as the support is taken care of.

I've always thought separates were a boon for us tall gals - I'd much rather have a bit of a gap between tankini top and the waist band of the bottoms than feel sort of bent trying to fit in a one piece, or feel the bottom disappear up my backside.
