One piece swimming costume with shorts but a strappy top with built in bra?

Think it might be the holy grail. I'm looking for a new costume for holiday. I prefer a shorts style bottom (rather than a skirt). I'm 59 and have a reasonable figure for my age. I'm around 5'10 and size 12 and relatively proportionate.

I don't however want a sports style top to the costume as that looks overly heavy on me, I prefer a thin strap. Also, I need cups, my boobs are not as perky as they once were so without leaves me squished a bit lower than is flattering.

Anyone come across anything that might fit the bill? Plain colour preferred.

I tend to buy a swimdress, and I got some swim bottom shorts style from shein to wear under it instead of the supplied bottoms.

Amazon has some. I’ve bought swimwear from Amazon before and have had to go for an XL when I’m a size 12-14, so you may need to size up.

THis looks lovely but is flagged up as a frequently returned item suggesting that there is an issue with it (?sizing?)

QuaintGreenFawn · 19/05/2025 17:10

I got one recently from pour moi - supportive top and not shorts but good coverage. I'm also fairly tall but not tall section tall and it's a good fit. I ordered quite a few to try and no issues with returns.

Pussert · 19/05/2025 17:18

Following along too OP as I'm also on the hunt for similar. Get fed up of having to pull swimwear out my bum and hate feeling like im walking around in pants!

Think I might go down the route of swimming shorts and tankini top though.

TheBirdintheCave · 19/05/2025 17:26

I ended up with something from Pour Moi with a high waist that I bought from Vinted for £5. They fit far better than my shorts style bikini. I was quite surprised actually.

TheFallenMadonna · 19/05/2025 21:56

I'm about the same height, and actually it's why I like separates usually! My swimming costume for actually swimming is a speedo one with a built in bra, which I bought when I saw all the reviews mentioning it being long in the body.

Doggymummar · 19/05/2025 22:03

I just got a Zoggs off VINTED for £20 bargain. Have you tried them? https://www.zoggs.com/en_GB/cottesloe-black-one-piece-legsuit-462561-bk

Oh I hadn't thought about Amazon, thanks.

I did think about separates but being quite tall, they often ride up. I seem to be somewhere between normal and tall in term of body length, the tall versions tend to be a little too loose so I usually just go for normal and put up with the shoulders digging in.

Thanks again all.

I am tall of body. I got a 2 piece off eBay which was shorts and a long tankini top which flakes at the bottom. So doesn’t stop on my tummy like older tankini did.
it’s bliss not having to think of stray pubes. It just feels practical.

I got a brilliant costume (had different but very specific requirements) from www.lands.end.co.uk . Not cheap but the most comfortable and flattering swimsuit I have ever had and I swim a lot. It is, after many uses, still like new. They had a good sale a couple of times a year too

Sarri · 20/05/2025 09:00

I swim a lot and have similar requirements to you - I've bought spendy seafolly costumes in the past and they've definitely been worth it, the quality is fantastic (please dont go near seafancy though,I got a bikini shorts set from there and it was so badly stitched, weird sizing, looked awful and nothing like the pics on the website!)

Would you consider a traditional costume with board /swim shorts over the top? Lots of the surf companies do them and they look fab.

Dogaredabomb · 19/05/2025 11:49

I bought a black swim bra from elomi. It's as good support as a bra and opens up choices for swimming tops as the support is taken care of.

I tend to do similar in that I have a supportive black bikini top under mine, how does a swim bra differ?

BigBoysDontCry · 20/05/2025 09:23

Thanks for the further ideas and options. I'm definitely not a board shorts woman. I think it looks good on other people but I think I'm the wrong shape or vibe. I know I'm not ancient but I have a need to look a bit more elegant in my dottage 😂

I separated from ex H last year and I'm going away with my sons and ds2s GF in August. It's not a beach holiday as such but we will hopefully do a day or two at the water. I'd also like to start going to the pool for a bit of exercise.

My weight has flucuated a bit and at one point I was down to a size 8 but I'm feeling pretty comfortable with myself at the moment. I don't want a new relationship, I'd just like to feel nice for myself if that makes sense? So hence nothing really sporty or revealing. I just want to feel covered enough but also feel good.

I'm working today but will have another look later tonight.

Thanks again.

Watching with interest. All the swimsuits of that type seem to be American brands… do yes a pain to return

RoosterPotato · 20/05/2025 10:03

There are a reasonable number on this website: https://www.walkonbeach.co.uk/one-piece-swimsuits/

I’ve never ordered from them myself though so no idea on quality

MiddleAgedDread · 20/05/2025 11:35

The images aren't loading for me on their website but try Cupshee, they have all sorts of swimwear and I had no issues with returns last year. If you're tall then you might struggle to find a one piece that's long enough in the body, I'm only 5ft 6 and often struggle with swimsuits.

RobertaBeckett · 20/05/2025 12:44

Check out mirclesuit very expensive but so worth it

It's literally built like a bra and in every size but in swimming costume material. So your boobs, no matter the size or state of them are kept in place. If a bikini top does that too, great, but I find with huge tits that have gone south it's not enough.

Dogaredabomb · 21/05/2025 05:56

I like a swimdress that's straight so it skims the gut and no frill at the bottom. Actually long enough that I don't have to bother with bikini line 😂 I'm au naturel.

Unstoppered · 21/05/2025 06:01

I haven’t read the full thread so this might have been mentioned but I have this from Decathlon which I like

https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/women-s-1-piece-heva-swimsuit-shorty-zip-black/_/R-p-345136

LeCigareVolant · 21/05/2025 06:28

I’m large chested and like a lot of support so I always opt for a tankini. You get the same coverage as a one piece, but have more choice in style for the top and bottoms. I quite like Curvy Kate.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 21/05/2025 07:54

Look for a tankini to stop the shoulders digging in, then you can also choose "shorty" bottoms. Gudrun Sjoden and Lands End have good mix & match swimwear. Land's End also sell many of their swimsuits in a Long body fit.
