(lighthearted)

If someone posts something or asks for an opinion, and you come on to criticise, diss, be unpleasant, or call it cheap, frumpy or old-fashioned, you should have to post something you like, so other posters can judge your credibility.

I actually have an aversion to street wear done by designers. There will be absolutely no extra quality to the Loewe jeans … these aren’t couture they’re just nice jeans with branding on the knees. I felt the same way about Alexander McQueen trainers and that was my absolute favourite designer brand from an aesthetic point of view. I like the idea of an old pair of battered Levi’s paired with a beautiful jacket but designer jeans… no thanks.

Ah. Jeans. Are you sure you feel comfortable opening the door to this minefield? Because I have thoughts.😱

I used to love McQueen - talk about good for the hourglass - but the brand seems to have been floundering in recent years.

I was such a fan of McQueen that when he died I bought myself something from his last collection. The only thing I could afford was a tee shirt… even back then it was over £100. I have to tell you that it hasn’t been on my back more than 10 times over the years and it’s thin and misshapen around the neckline. I guess it might be worth some money as vintage but god it wasn’t worth the money in terms of the quality.

I did the same when Vivienne Westwood died. I'd had a few of her pieces before (a dress and two skirts) but had put weight on and they no longer fit. I bought a scarf and a clutch bag. I love both to bits, but the bag is too small to fit my phone in which is a pain in the arse.

Divebar2021 · 10/05/2025 20:27

I have a few Vivienne Westwood bits… a dress from the Masai collection ( no idea of the actual collection name but it was 2010). A few tee shirts and an immaculate pair of bondage boots which are now the opposite of comfy. No idea where I would even wear them now. I feel like I should be striding around Soho. Oh I also have a pair of silver animal paw shoes from Oxfam for £30 which I’ve never worn. I guess I should sell this stuff. I love her structured jackets..I could never fit them when I was younger and now I’m smaller the world has moved on 🙄

Divebar2021 · 10/05/2025 20:28

That bag must be very tiny if it can’t even fit a phone in.

It's small but not ridiculously so. My phone just squeezes in, but then the clutch pops open. It's a pain.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/05/2025 20:52

I absolutely covet a pair of bondage boots. I found some in a charity shop in York once, but they were half a size too big. :(

i know you’re right but I really like the decoration on the knees! I wear 501s and in real life I’d never buy designer jeans, but if I had the cash and the height for those Loewe ones I’d buy them.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/05/2025 20:53

Actually, I'm lying. It's the pirate boots I want.

Floisme · 11/05/2025 07:50

I also once walked away from some Vivienne Westwood shoes in a charity shop and still regret it even though they were too big. Shoes aren’t normally my thing but these were gold, lace up flatforms…

Hang on to the jackets @Divebar2021- the world will turn back.

Edited to add, sorry, I may have misread your post - you didn’t get one before and now they don’t do them any more? Either way, I’m sure they’ll come back around before long.

Floisme · 11/05/2025 08:21

Ah… except if they come back again now, Vivienne won’t be around to do them Blush Sad
Soz Divebar, the perils of posting before coffee….

I have a mini Loewe puzzle bag and it does just about hold my phone and keys and a tube of lip balm, but it's the most intensely annoying design. One your phone goes in, it takes 3 hands and a will of steel to extract it again. I've only used it about 5 times. I should probably sell it on, but it's an exquisite light lavender, so I do periodically admire it, hanging there.

Re jeans. I'm a free love advocate when it comes to jeans. They're a very personal decision. High street, designer, wide-legged, straight, skinny, barrel, cropped. My only rule is that they should make the wearer feel good in some way, whether it's being on point for a trend or providing comfort or flattery. My most worn pairs at the moment are Chloe flares and Mother ankle frays, which feel like a cross between straight, skinny and a tiny bit of boot leg. The Chloe's require a chunky shoe, the Mothers can be worn with anything. I feel like I'll never want to move on, but know I eventually will.
