Is it worth spending more on make up?

I've been using Clinique make up for some years now but am fed up of them discontinuing the products I like.

Do you think its worth buying more expensive makee up? I am tempted to go a bit cheaper now, but not too cheap, still decent quality.

I think "drugstore" makeup is much better than it used to be. I have a huge variety of makeup from stuff that cost a £1 right up to £50 eyeshadow palettea and I genuinely enjoy everything regardless of price. My favourite foundation costs £10 and definitely out performs pricier ones I've had.

Sparkletastic · 03/05/2025 21:33

I take a high / low approach spending money where it is worth it and saving where cheaper products are just as effective.

londongirl12 · 03/05/2025 21:45

I’ve just gone from the Clinique foundation to YSL (assistant suggested it in Sephora) and I think it’s much better.

Riverswimmers · 03/05/2025 21:47

Do you need a foundation. I use a Korean cc cream and though not cheap it is so much better than foundation if you don't need coverage.

Riverswimmers · 03/05/2025 21:49

I too take a mixed approach - maybelline mascara and cerave cleansing and moisturiser and a more expensive night serum being a good example.

lunalovegood25 · 03/05/2025 21:51

Have you looked into some help yet for the obsession? Because it’s been over a decade of the same question and you’re going to get the same replies about no 7 vs Clinique

TheChosenTwo · 03/05/2025 21:54

Honestly I do think your skin has the biggest part to play in how nicely your makeup sits, high or low end. I do buy expensive makeup but I don’t use it all the time (lazy), I take really good care of my skin though.
I must say I prefer maybelline mascaras to almost all high end ones!

OrangeBlossom28 · 03/05/2025 21:54

Have you tried No7 as an alternative? I’ve got their Pro range loose powder and it’s very decent.

OvaHere · 03/05/2025 21:57

If a product is good then it's good regardless of cost. That said I do favour more expensive tints and foundations as I age, I just find them better on older skin.

I did recently try both an Elf and a Maybelline one but had to give them away as they were too drying and enhanced lines. Obviously everyone is different but that's one area I don't think I'll skimp on. I do rate the Elf Poreless Putty Primer I've got though.

Changingplace · 03/05/2025 21:58

I used to buy high end foundation, Clinique or Dior etc, but I recently picked up a No 7 foundation as I was in a rush and could only get to a small Boots and I love it, I don’t think I’ll go back to spending so much when the one I got was about £12 I think.

LoafofSellotape · 03/05/2025 21:59

I spend on Estee Lauder primer and foundation but most other stuff is Maybelline . Drugstore make up is so good these days the gap between high end and high street has really narrowed.

minnienono · 03/05/2025 22:01

I swear by no 7, the quality seems as good as brands 3x the price but discount make up cheaper than no 7 is a step too far Grin

Eldermillennialmum · 03/05/2025 22:02

I think you could find something you like that is high end or high street if you look.

TheGirlattheBack · 03/05/2025 22:02

Just switched from Clinique foundation to Chanel and couldn’t be happier - it’s the best matched foundation I’ve ever had.

Didntask · 03/05/2025 22:04

Its all depends really. High end labels don't always equate to quality, but then some high end stuff is fab. The VB eyeliners for example. Expensive but imo worth every penny. But I think her tubing mascara is crap compared to Elf's.

Pinkdreams · 03/05/2025 22:05

i am someone who would say yes BUT it does depend on what. Foundation - 1000% yes you can tell the difference between cheap and expensive, take Charlotte tilbury, Armani, Mac, huda, there’s no comparison to cheap. Mascara - no way I’d go drugstore. Eyeshadow, drugstore

Which No7 foundation do you use?

Who cares? She's asking again, big deal...jeez some people

I really rate No 7 as well.

Was reading a magazine today & shocked at the eye-watering prices of the make-up featured. Absolutely crazy money!

Because it’s the same questions over multiple forums since 2011 and she asked for help a while ago with her makeup addiction. People answering are just enabling it

Goodness me are you STILL going with this age old question?!!!

this poster has significant issues and has literally asked this question hundreds of times. And when I say hundreds, I mean that

What are you on about? Multiple forums? Are you the forum police or something? If you've got nothing useful to say don't bother!
