All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

I'm giving up until Monday too - buried my Nan on Wednesday which was just too too emotional and so required huge quantities of wine. If anybody has funerals (especially catholic ones) to go to I would recommend not reading Dawkins beforehand . So Thursday required donuts and coke.

And dh was gutted about Moscow, so has been hell to live with, and so far his resigning has caused him to work even more than he did before - It hits the press on tuesday so his mobile will be ringing off the hook.

But next week I will be better I promise.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 24/05/2008 21:22

Best wishes to cerys & pru.
Well done saggars for getting the gym underway and lol at Two Pints Gaz.

Lots of cereal; pork pie/cheese/salami/salad for lunch; potato dauphinoise & peas for dinner - there were sausages too but I gave mine to the dog. Key lime pie. Strawberries/pineapple/kiwi/melon salad.

Lots of water. Freshly made raspberry leaf tea.

Spent the day pottering in the garden and only done minor mucking out. Had DC friends over to play with the chicks. Amazingly, all 9 chicks are still alive.

Enjoy your weekends.

WideWebWitch · 24/05/2008 21:45

JJ, sorry to hear about the stress, you're dealing with some tough stuff, as are you Cerys. Do you both have people looking out for you too? I hope so.

Pru, totally understandable to eat donuts etc under the circumstances, I'm sorry about your nan.

Saggars, hope Gaz is ok, well done, I really am terrified at the whole idea of gyms but realise I will probably have to join one at some point, India and Neris say so and of course I do as they say these days

WideWebWitch · 24/05/2008 21:46

DofN, Raspberry leaf, ooh, hope it gets you some baby action!

WideWebWitch · 24/05/2008 21:51

Today

scrambled egg and bacon, brought to me in bed by dh
Dolcelatte, Port Salut, Boursin, Ementhal, cheddar and prawns with lemon juice and black pepper plus spinach salad with vinaigrette
supper was a mushroom, tarragon and cheese omelette (mushrooms fried in butter)with spinach salad

no wine
probably not enough water as have been cleaning out ds's DISGUSTING bedroom. He got bored and went off so, his fault I threw away a lot of stuff I don't think he needs anymore...FIVE binliners later it looks fab. We are intending to do the same with the rest of the house this week, this is the kind of thing we never have tmioe to do usually. Not exciting but in a way it will be v satisfying to clear the piles of paperwork/books lying around stuff in the house. And then we can leave it another 2 years.

Happy weekend everyone.

suzywong · 25/05/2008 07:14

yes, well done WWW
what diet are you following? I like the cut of its jib.

WideWebWitch · 25/05/2008 09:20

Wong, it's India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet and is Atkins basically from what I gather (although have never done Atkins).

So I am eating NO sugar; NO carbs; no caffeine for the first 2 weeks although I am having it now as I am into week 4; booze only once a week (supposed to be spirits but I don't like them so I am going with dry white wine and Champagne and accepting the consequences which haven't exactly been disastrous so far) and plenty of salad, spinach, anything leafy and green, lots of meat, fish, cheese, eggs, cream and stuff like that. Plus lots of water and lots of vitamins: multi vitamin, vitamin B, Glucose tolerance tablet, Physillum husks, fish oil, co-enzyme Q10, milk thistle. I haven't been hungry once so far (if you're hungry they say eat somethnig, like cheese) and the priinciple is fat and protein at every meal if possible, but good fat like olive oil, avocados etc.

And I'm down a stone in 3 weeks so it's working. I feel great, frankly!

OP posts:
suzywong · 25/05/2008 09:27

well sign me up immediatement!

Today I have eaten a faux coffee eclair, a Whopper, quiche, chorizo hash (nothing as common as corned beef) and will drink more wine tonight.
Because the Diet Starts Tomorrow!

It must be wonderful to see the scales go down a whole stone - well done you!

suzywong · 25/05/2008 10:06

WWW, thank you for the link. I signed up for their forum but they seem to be a tad tardy in sending me my password so I can look at the FAQs.

Could you find it in your slender heart to paste me a link to the first day of the diet, please? Then I can see if the book has reached Australian shores in the morning and stop sponging off you.

WideWebWitch · 25/05/2008 10:07

lol at slender heart, hang on

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 25/05/2008 10:13

Right, Wong, can't find anything that says exactly what to eat on day 1 but I can tell you. Copied and pasted a useful bit from the forum below (apologies everyone):

Hello all,

Just thought I'd post this to try and clear up any confusion for anyone starting the IPD or still unsure about any of it.

First off, welcome to what will be the most revolutionary weight loss you'll ever do. Whether you want to lose 1 stone or 10 stone, you'll find this easy and pain free but there are some definite DOs and very definite DON'Ts. This is as close as this diet gets to rules and they really are only here for your own good, otherwise you risk slowing yourselves down and getting demotivated.

DO:

  1. DRINK DRINK DRINK your water. Non-negotiable. Has to be between 1.5 and 3 litres a day. Drink less and you'll get constipated and stall. Drink more and you risk water retention issues.
  1. EXERCISE. 20 mins a day please. And try and up this if you can. This just means going for a nice brisk walk on your lunch break!
  1. READ THE BOOK! ESSENTIAL! VITAL! can't say this enough but so so much is contained in there and it's all vital stuff. From a sciencey explanation of how it works to tips for boosting your self esteem on a bad day. But PLEASE don't attempt to start the diet without reading the book. And that's the original PINK book. NOT the recipe book. The recipe book is a wonderful complement to the orignial, but it is not the diet book.
  1. Ask questions by all means but please use the search button to see if it's been asked before. Chances are it has and a wealth of info will be available on the subject. Please also feel free to PM a moderator but again, please use the search button and the book before you do this.

DON'T:

  1. Be lax and think there is a Phase 1.5 where you allow yourselves caffeine, chocolate and all sorts BEFORE you get to Phase 2. For those on long term Phase 1, this particularly applies!
  1. Think milk is a negotiable. it aint. Buy soya, Lactosefree or use cream.
  1. V. IMPORTANT. Do NOT attempt to mix and match diet rules. This is as much to do with nutritional and health reasons as it is to do with making yourself stall. Therefore- NO Cambridge diet, Lighter Life, Weight Watchers, Slimming World, Low Fat, Low Calorie etc. principles or products. ABSOLUTELY NOT.
  1. PLEASE don't think that weight loss is linear- IT ISN'T. So don't run for the biscuits if you don't lose for a week or so. You will again.

I AM EDITING THIS to include the fact that weight loss is often very speedy in the first week- 10 days and then levels off after that, so PLEASE don't get disheartened if you slow right down in weeks 3-4 onward! You'll get there!!

So. There we go. Long post, I apologise but it's all vital stuff.

Good luck to new an old xxxx

but here you go, Amazon Oz have it

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 25/05/2008 10:18

And my top tips are:

Read labels religiously. Any sugar or -ose is a no no. Most mayo for eg has it. I can't find any organic bacon without sugar. Most salami even has it.

Take your vitamins

Plan ahead and make sure you have what you need in the house

you will feel awful for first week but it gets a LOT better after that

watch out for carbs in veg etc too, carrots are too carby

buy the book, there's lots of other useful stuff in there

OP posts:
suzywong · 25/05/2008 10:19

WWW, that is tremendously kind of you, but there IS no Amazon Oz. That was Amazon US.

I will go out to the bookstore first thing, but in the meantime would you be an utter dear and tell me what to have for breakfast?

thank you very much

Cammelia · 25/05/2008 10:20

I've just really enjoyed reading this thread in a break from doing revision helping dd do revision for important exams.

Haven't got time to post anything sensible re 10yy until they're over but glad to see you're all still at it

WideWebWitch · 25/05/2008 10:25

Oh, what a pain.

OK: 4 rashers of bacon and 2 fried eggs is your breakfast for day 1. Or smoked salmon with cream cheese inside. Or scrambled eggs and bacon or smoked salmon.

Lunch for me atm is mostly spinach leaves, quail eggs, a tin of tuna, green beans, anchovies and vinaigrette made with 1 third vinegar and 2 thirds olive oil. Then I have cheese if I'm still hungry.

Here's an easy chicken recipe: cut a chicken breast into strips and fry in groundnut oil, add fresh tarragon, cook for a bit, then add double cream and a squirt of lemon juice, black pepper and serve. V quick and gorgeous. Have with broccoli (fine in phase 1) or salad/spinach.
You can also make faux mash with cauli and cream and butter. Haven't tried it but mean to, have 4 mini caulis in fridge.

So there you go, that's day 1! You can eat roast chicken, with skin, just no potatoes so there's another evening recipe.

btw, I know that's a nicoise!

JJ · 25/05/2008 10:34

I ended up just brushing my teeth and stopping eating yesterday to avoid eating more crap. Think it was the right decision; am hungry and ready to be back on track today!

Pru - very sorry about your Nan.

SMBK - I have one of those! A personalised training plan, I mean. I really like it and feel very worked out after doing it. Tell the trainer what you want to work - mine focusses on stomach and arms with the weights bookended by cardio.

DoNB - ha at raspberry leaf tea. Have you had the baby yet? (Hee hee - had to ask)

Suzy - 'roid is ok, I think. Am still on 6 monthly visits as it wobbles about a bit. Yep, am in 'ackney now and staying for a while (knock on wood). My eldest is having surgery in a week and a half and then won't walk for about 3 months and will slowly return to normal over the next year and a half or so. Ack! He has Perthes disease (it's a hip thang). Poor mite. How are the fragrant Wong boys? I saw your profile but that must not be them, those boys are far too old! (Creak, creak of the zimmer frame - how time flies)

Am very at your weightloss WWW. Thanks for posting about it - it is quite inspirational!

JJ · 25/05/2008 10:37

Cam, cross-posted. I have been looking at school stuff as my Year 5 boy is going to be out from now until the summer break most likely. Can I admit that I'm not looking forward to doing home ed even for a month or so? Good luck with your revisions.

WideWebWitch · 25/05/2008 10:38

Oh JJ, poor ds. That is going to be tough on all of you, isn't it? Anything we can do let us know.

(I will post before and after photos when I get there! It really helps posting about it )

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 25/05/2008 10:38

And hello to you lovely Cam

OP posts:

thanks WWW

WideWebWitch · 25/05/2008 10:52

Dymocks in Oz have it but you'll have to order online or call and see if the Perth store has it.

Right, that's it, must get dressed!
Happy bank holiday weekend everyone.
