Is this top ok for a wedding?

I realise it’s casual but I can manage that. I ask because it’s cream and floral embroidery.

No, don’t wear cream to a wedding.

Outofthepan · 28/04/2025 19:07

No, too cream and weddingy

Thelasttea · 28/04/2025 19:07

Lovely
what to go with?

I’d have had zero issue with a guest rocking up in this (or indeed anything!)

Overtheatlantic · 28/04/2025 19:07

Of all the colours out there you can only find this one? It actually looks bridal.

Sofiewoo · 28/04/2025 19:08

Not sure why you would chose this for a wedding.

LushLemonTart · 28/04/2025 19:15

No but not because of the colour

Iwashappyinthehaze · 28/04/2025 19:18

I just really liked it. It’s very similar to one I used to have which really suited me.
Years ago when there were lots of weddings post uni my friends and I all agreed it was mad that anyone worries about such stuff.
Glad I checked.

I love it ! Where what you want to a wedding !

nobodywantsit · 28/04/2025 19:26

It’s gorgeous and I would definitely buy it but not for a wedding unless you knew for certain the bride was wearing pink or something. The top with a cream skirt could easily be a slightly more casual bridal outfit.

Ifyouhavetoask99 · 28/04/2025 19:28

*wear

Absolutely

Fuck all societally acceptable 'rules' for weddings and be that person

No. Don't wear it for a wedding. Unless you're the bride.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/04/2025 19:44

What do you want to wear it with? I think if with something bright, it could be fine.

Hollieandtheivie · 28/04/2025 19:46

Depends what you put it with. A bright pair of trousers and I'd say that's absolutely fine. A cream maxi skirt and that's not.

Sorry, just saw this and said pretty much the same thing as you. Snap 😆

Catwoman8 · 28/04/2025 19:49

To be honest I would steer clear from anything cream/white coloured, especially with the embroidery. You don't want to be that person who turns up in white. Does it come in any other colours?

EnjoythemoneyJane · 28/04/2025 19:51

Entirely depends on how you’re intending to style it. If you’re looking at a long skirt in the same fabric, then probably not! But there are tons of ways of wearing this without looking remotely bridal.

It’s so old-fashioned, the blanket NO to anything in cream or white. Literally nobody is going to mistake a guest for the bride, and in these days of coordinated palettes and SM posts, a lot of brides would probably be pleased their guests are wearing pale colours to a summer wedding - just adds to the summery vibe.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 28/04/2025 19:51

Depends what you wear it with. Not colourwise but whether it's dressed up enough. The trousers it's paired with are awful.

minnienono · 28/04/2025 19:56

It’s fine as long as with a coloured skirt or trousers and coloured jacket/cardigan

Iwashappyinthehaze · 28/04/2025 20:37

It is lovely isn’t it. I can’t justify buying it for casual just now.

Was thinking of nice quality trousers in a colour but wasnt planning on jacket.

Love the pink trousers. Liked this blue, not necessarily as slouchy as these ones.

I don’t know the bride well so won’t risk it.

If everyone had said don’t worry I might have gone for it. Will have another look.

A guest at my Dc wedding wore a similar outfit different colour trousers but a cream lacey top, it honestly doesn't look remotely bridal.

Iwashappyinthehaze · 29/04/2025 07:11

Is there still a rule around black as well? Can I wear this top with black trousers and some lovely cream shoes I spotted? Again it’s a top I love and would wear to summer parties.

Are cream shoes a “no” for those who are in the know on the “rules”?

Failing that I might just go for an easy option that I’m unlikely to wear again.

Second outfit is fine. First top still fine if with something bright on bottom half.

Divebar2021 · 29/04/2025 07:23

These rules are imaginary but people are so weirdly rabid around them. One person in a cream top will not look bridal. One person in a black outfit will not look funereal… particularly as lots of people don’t even wear black to funerals now.

ONLY on mumsnet are they rabid about these things

every wedding I’ve been (all lovely) I have been able to wear whatever I damn well fancy
