Pockets in dresses?

Love the idea, but do you actually use them?

I just bought this, got really excited when I realised it has pockets and then thought, realistically, under what circumstances am I putting something in these? Anything bigger than a slip of tissue paper would ruin the line. If I stuck my phone in one, it would weigh it down and make it look like I had a hip goitre.

Pockets in dresses?

Yes I do! Tissue, lip balm, keys, phone.

Talipesmum · 23/04/2025 18:50

Yeah, it does depend on the fabric. Most of my dresses are sturdier fabric than that!

Coldbacon · 23/04/2025 18:52

Lip balm and tissues. Not usually keys or phone although can be handy to do that just for a moment to free hands for something else.

henlake7 · 23/04/2025 18:54

Only thing I put in my pockets are my hands!
I find it I don't have pockets I'm constantly looking for them.

BitOutOfPractice · 23/04/2025 18:55

Yes. I often lose put my glasses in them.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 23/04/2025 19:01

Tissues, reading specs and office door pass.

Cyclingmummy1 · 23/04/2025 19:11

Hanky.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 23/04/2025 19:14

Fags and a lighter until I gave up smoking ☺️

CertainUncertain · 23/04/2025 21:12

Hmm. Ok, clearly not making enough use of mine!

No glasses, fags or hanky, but I do have hands @henlake7! 😅

Love the dress - where’d you get it, pockets and all?

notatinydancer · 24/04/2025 08:21

I think actually having pockets is better than actually using them.

dudsville · 24/04/2025 10:17

My pockets mostly get used for my hands. I love sauntering hand in pocket! By I'm also a fan of utility pockets in dresses made of sterner materials.

TheDandyLion · 24/04/2025 14:03

Hands is what gets put in my pockets.

User19876536484 · 24/04/2025 14:08

No, I sew them up.

Thanks! It's Zimmerman. I got it on Net-A-Porter but I'm sure it's available lots of places.

I love pockets in dresses as they are a great prop for somewhere to put hands, as already said! I don't have many dresses as I don't suit them very well, but make an exception for holidays, funerals, weddings and big events. Only the funeral and the wedding outfits are pocketless... I also think they make looser dresses sit/look better? But maybe that's my imagination!

Aizen · 24/04/2025 17:04

Oh and the dress is very nice BTW. I see a lot of loose flowy long dresses on sale at the moment, which is great for me as I absolutely detest close fitting ANYTHING... Must have room to breathe and I refuse to use shapewear, too restricting and hot. Bless those of you who don't need to pull the bits in 😊

MsNevermore · 24/04/2025 17:08

Yes!!

Last summer I bought two sundresses from Hollister - both of which have built in shorts underneath and really roomy pockets!!!
I hate carrying a bag, and both of these dresses have space in the pockets for my phone, lip balm, keys etc.
Love them!

henlake7 · 24/04/2025 17:16

I think thats part of my love affair with pinafore dresses TBH. Not only do you get 2 side pockets but usually a really handy front phone pocket as well!😀

LadyWiddiothethird · 24/04/2025 17:20

I love a dress with pockets.Just bought a Rohan dress, the pockets have zips.

NPET · 24/04/2025 17:24

I do. Small can of hairspray. Ready to produce and activate in a guy's eyes! Best form of defence. Always legal wherever you are.

CertainUncertain · 24/04/2025 17:27

I've obviously been missing out, but I can't see these pockets actually being particularly useful. The silk is very, almost, sheer. I can't imagine what you could put in that wouldn't show through.

Gymbunny2025 · 24/04/2025 21:26

I think possibly just your hands?

i do love a nice practical dress with pockets for work though!

Ineffable23 · 24/04/2025 21:30

Most of my dresses are sturdier than that.

I would put my small bunch of keys (I have a set like a jailer but if I'm going out on foot I just slip the door key off) and things like tissues or a tiny change purse or a lip balm.

Mainly though I use them for putting my phone etc in on a temporary basis if I want both hands for going downstairs etc.

Melancholyflower · 24/04/2025 21:46

If I'd paid nearly two grand for a dress I wouldn't be shoving keys or a phone in the pockets!
