Pockets in dresses?

Love the idea, but do you actually use them?

I just bought this, got really excited when I realised it has pockets and then thought, realistically, under what circumstances am I putting something in these? Anything bigger than a slip of tissue paper would ruin the line. If I stuck my phone in one, it would weigh it down and make it look like I had a hip goitre.

Pockets in dresses?

Yes, I don't put anything in them except my hands. If I'm hanging about or waiting I need pockets. I have pockets in my leggings too.

Oh, always pockets in leggings, absolutely. Whole different story.

Yes!!

Last summer I bought two sundresses from Hollister - both of which have built in shorts underneath and really roomy pockets!!!
I hate carrying a bag, and both of these dresses have space in the pockets for my phone, lip balm, keys etc.
Love them!

These sound great, do you have a link please

HOLY COW that dress is fabulous but the £££ for what I see online by them is incredible only not similar to yours! I wouldn't put anything near pockets of such an expensive dress. [Please please share link if you can remember where you got it, I want to buy seven]

I’m living in the US at the moment, but I’m assuming Hollister’s UK lines are similar and have a lot of the same stuff.
They don’t have the exact ones I bought anymore but do still seem to be making plenty of dresses with the pockets and built-in shorts 🙌🏻
This one is really similar to one of mine:

Thank you, that's lovely. I'm going to order!

No, I don't. I'd rather have pocket-less dresses, frankly. I keep my belongings safely in my bag.

StrikeForever · 24/04/2025 23:11

I make my own dresses and if the pattern includes pockets, I leave them out. They are handy for a tissue, but anything heavier drags the fabric and I find they spoil the line of the dress. They seem to be a marmite option in dressmaking. Some love them and some, like me won’t entertain them.

Here's the link @ThrillsAndSpills2025. I think you would fine seven excessive! Speaking for myself, I need at least one other outfit for dog walking 😂

I hate carrying a bag too! I need to have a tissue and lip balm about me at all times so I love a dress with pockets - although I rarely wear 'floaty' fabrics, so most of my dresses can stand a bit of weight in the pockets. If I will have to carry my car keys and my phone though, I usually pop a jacket on over the top, so I've got somewhere to put them. I recently bought a really cute leather jacket with good zip up pockets for just this eventuality!

WorriedRelative · 25/04/2025 10:27

Mainly only used for my hanky or my work security pass (I hate it round my neck). Occasionally put more/bigger stuff in them for a few minutes while carrying stuff to free up a hand, eg while carrying drinks back from the bar I might pop my purse in my pocket even though it is too bulky really

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 25/04/2025 19:56

It depends on where the pockets are on a dress as I’m short and I tend to find that the in-seam hip pockets come half way down my thighs, so give me a strange shape. They probably work better on a flared / tiered dress than a straight T shirt or shift dress.
