How long does your tights last? Snag says off their brand is 2-5 wears?

No not a odd ball asking about your tights 😆
I've just seen an advertisement from snag saying other tights are 2-5 wears (not theirs... Or course hmm)
Surely not?
How long does yours last!?
I've had the same load for over a year now. Can't imagine throwing away after 2 wears!! Be spending £40 a month on tights!

I've lost track of how many wears but it must be far more than 2-5. I buy a new pair maybe twice a year - though they're always thick black tights and I only wear them in autumn and winter.

Flossflower · 16/04/2025 22:13

I hate wearing tights. I wear them about 6 times a year. I buy the black bamboo ones from M&S. usually a new pair every time.

TheChosenTwo · 16/04/2025 22:21

I’m a snag convert, had a few of my pairs now for a few years.
Previously I bought pretty cheap pairs from the supermarket, pack of 3 for a fiver or pack of 2 for £8 from M&S type price point and they probably lasted 2-5 wears because they laddered, sagged at the crotch, fitted badly, whatever. I was rebuying them often.
Snag work for me and I don’t give a shit about their branding, I just want to spent my money on a product that do what they say they will.
Not an advert just a happy customer!

IamSallyBowles · 16/04/2025 22:26

I have Snag & Better tights that I have had for many many years. Before Snag and better my tights only lasted a few wears. I think more because I am tall and chubby thighed which meant the I was putting strain on tights that Better & Snag accommodate in their sizing model.

So - if oy are a fairly standard size then other tights may well last ages - but if you are tall or big then Snag and Better are better value for money

LivingDeadGirlUK · 16/04/2025 22:26

In my experience they either last one wesr or 3 years!

howsthehair · 16/04/2025 22:30

Honestly before Snag - they’d rip every pair, I’m tall and plus size. Now I have snag - they last years

thenightsky · 16/04/2025 22:30

I've only ever worn opaque 80 denier or higher ones. I still have some that I wore when I first started work in the 1980s.

MaMaMaMaBaker · 16/04/2025 22:32

It depends on how thick the tights are. If they're very sheer or have a pattern with a lot of holes in, they probably won't last long.

If they're thicker or have a pattern with no small holes to catch on anything, they should last.

I wear tights most days. I will only wear Wolford because they last much longer. I never buy anything with holes in the design because they're just begging to catch on a zip or something.

I do have to replace my tights fairly often, but I expect to get at least six months out of them.

NattyTurtle59 · 16/04/2025 22:32

I wear opaque high denier ones all through the winter to work (or I did pre retirement) and they lasted for years. I kept stocking up but the old ones just kept going and I have a bag full of brand news tights which will probably never get worn!

Gradiuma · 16/04/2025 22:03

😂 no they were not banned, but not mandatory and utterly ridiculous, why you feel the need to wear them? I speak as a former child forced to wear them at school when I’d rather wear trousers. Again, I don’t understand why this is bothering you. Wear them if you want?, don’t wear them if you don’t want to? They ladder, 🤣🤣 ffs first world problems

because people don’t want cold legs when wearing dresses or skirts?

mondaytosunday · 16/04/2025 22:45

My DD today wore her old school tights from her GCSE years. She’s 19.

Oldmouse · 16/04/2025 22:46

I've had two pairs from as snag that are 5 years old and only just bought new ones because the ankles went bobbly from rubbing on my shoes.

Best tights brand I've used.

I'm a massive fan of this look. Bare legs just wouldn't work.

My m&s opaque ones last years and I wear tights often in the autumn winter and spring.

When I was a teenager in the 90s I had to wear thin flesh tone ones at my Saturday job and they only lasted one or two wears before they laddered. Woolworths didn't pay me enough to replace them at that frequency though so I just used to wear them with clear nail varnish to stop it spreading.

Intranslation · 16/04/2025 23:17

I don't count, but more than 5 wears unless they get a ladder. I buy M&S or Primark because I'm tall and find other places are uncomfortable in a medium or one size and large is not tall so doesn't work

Intranslation · 16/04/2025 23:20

Gradiuma · 16/04/2025 21:55

Why you wearing tights in 2025?

Because bare legs is both cold and comical Oct-May/June

I much prefer dress and tights rather than a pair of trousers and a top/jumper

To each their own

I think wearing a skirt/dress and (thick) tights is much warmer and more comfortable than trousers. Jeans are particularly cold and uncomfortable.

SociableAtWork · 17/04/2025 04:56

Thick, opaque black tights, 100 denier or something, last me years - I’ve some that are at least 3 years old.

The thin 15 denier (or less, my fault I know) last about 10 minutes and are often laddered as I put them on!! It’s a ‘me problem’ but very annoying.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/04/2025 06:20

Prettygreeneyes43 · 16/04/2025 21:21

I don’t wear tights but surely it would be the same as socks?! What on earth are they doing with them?

Presumably the op means thin, low denier nylon tights. They are much more fragile than socks, and there's a lot more fabric to catch on something, stick your toe through etc. Then there's the yanking them up when they inevitably don't stay up.

Honestly OP, I can get through a 3 pack of "nylons" before I've finished getting dressed. Snag are actually the only brand that I can wash and wear a few times and fit well enough that they don't fall down when I walk.

Ladyymuck · 17/04/2025 07:46

I’ve had falke and wolford tights for years.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 17/04/2025 09:03

My M&S opaque ones have lasted me years. I only get rid of them if they develop are hole.

I very rarely wear sheer ones as they just snag or ladder after one wear and if it's too cold for bare legs it's thick tights.

CharlotteCChapel · 17/04/2025 09:07

I don't wear them , I couldn't find a pair to fit as I have long legs, but when I did, I'd regularly put my fingers through first attempt at wearing.

MaMaMaMaBaker · 17/04/2025 12:44

Ladyymuck · 17/04/2025 07:46

I’ve had falke and wolford tights for years.

Even my thinnest Wolford tights last ages.

IamEarthymama · 17/04/2025 13:01

I used to wear Snag but I found the quality declined and hated the advertising so I now wear Better tights.
i still have Snag to wear on cold days with dresses and boots; the feet bobbled so badly I can’t wear them with shoes.
I had to size down with Better, they are generously sized. I wear footless tights in the summer, I’m a chilly soul!
The colours are lovely too, I’m quite adventurous.

I am sure I have tights that are over 10 years old or more. I wear them under trousers for dog walks in the winter.
My cold weather go-to are fleece lined tights from Primark. Sadly they only come in black. I don’t work now so I’m layering up as much as I can to cut heating costs.
In fact, it’s so cold today I might dig them out!
