Earrings that can be worn all the time, even in the shower?

Not sure if I’m looking for the impossible here, but let’s see.
Generally I don’t have much luck with earrings. I’m a careful person but often they fall out or get lost. What I’d really like is some earrings that I can wear all day, every day and not have to worry about taking them out in the shower. My preference is dangle or drop earrings with a bit of sparkle; the type that have a sort of hook at the back, without a closure. Earrings with a butterfly closure aren’t ideal for me as they will invariably end up falling out.
So, if such a thing exists, your recommendation please for a bling earring that won’t go crusty or discoloured in water.

I have a pair of good old fashioned silver sleepers.

CurlewKate · 07/04/2025 09:18

I’m an ear ring loser too. I used to carefully “match” the odd ones until I realized that I was suddenly too old for odd earring to be charmingly quirky-they had become an indicator of potential cognitive decline!

Huggies are the way to go-although I usually have to get my dd to put them in or take them out for me…..did I mention cognitive decline?

Thank you SO much, everyone x

I have these, the small ones and the big ones. I sleep, swim, shower etc in them.

I'm an earring breaker. Any kind of push-fit back digs into my head while sleeping, so I must thrash around so much trying to change the angle that I end up wrecking the fitting! Hoops seem to pinch, no matter how cleverly designed, and I ruined all of those too.

It took ages to find ones with a screw-in ball stud, then I found two solutions at once.

These have been in my ears for the past 6 years or so. I have taken them off for MRIs, etc and, rarely, to replace them with actually visible earrings. They're a right faff to get in and out - which is a good thing - but I belatedly realised you can screw the ball off at either end. It's a bit easier from in front!

Yes, they are just £22 for a pair (I wear three).

Same day, I found golden surgical steel ones on Amazon for around £20 a pack of ten.

Interesting.
I wear plain gold studs a lot; if I'm doing sport for instance. I shower in them, swim in them, but don't wear them in bed as I find the posts dig in my brain head.

When I wear dangly ones I'll use the tiny plastic/rubber holder things that someone up thread posted. No chance of falling out.

I don't get on well with the hinged or clasp type ones. I don't know if I'm just not careful but I find they undo or catch when I pull a top over my head (which you would need to do if it's an earring you're planning on keeping in for many days like OP wants to do).

Solace are waterproof etc. i have their huggies and never take them off.

Oblomov25 · 07/04/2025 18:53

I need some, but I need to remove them easily when I want, eg when going out so I can wear big out-out earrings.

I have a pair of good old fashioned silver sleepers.

Same. I only remove them to replace with fancier earrings when I’m dressing up to go out.

NancyJoan · 07/04/2025 18:58

Have had these in for ages. Gold plate, so they don’t tarnish. www.astridandmiyu.com/products/twist-large-hoops-in-gold

Pinkpeanut27 · 07/04/2025 19:12

I wear silver sleepers with a charm mainly as I’ve become an earring loser recently ! Also have some tiny studs from Oliver Bonas ( I have 3 lobe piercings ) I never take them out only maybe once a month to clean !!

Samamfia · 07/04/2025 20:20

Never understood butterfly backs, they always fall out. What I do is keep the clear rubber thingies that hold high street earrings in their packaging, and put them on the back of everything that's not hoops. They stay firmly in place and I've never lost an earring since I started using them, rather than whatever 'proper' backs are supplied.

notatinydancer · 07/04/2025 20:31

I never take my studs out. Never lost backs. Shower / swim everything.

LaTristesseDureraToujours · 07/04/2025 21:22

Would definitely recommend if you’re open to having non-dangle jewellery, titanium labret bars. You can change the fronts (you can get ones that push fit or screw on and can get lovely decorative attachments including some with dangling elements). I’ll link below a brand that does these, you’d want 1.2mm. Can be ordered through piercers that stock the brand usually- I can check prices for you if you need.

other good brands are Anatometal, Industrial Strength, Maria Tash if you’re feeling fancy.

None of the brands are super cheap (Qualiti are UK-based and cheapest of the brands listed) but they last and won’t go weird in your ears and are secure. Just a thought! I wear labrets in all my standard ear piercings because I just find them so much comfier and love not having to worry about losing them/backs sticking in my head/neck.

I'm another earring looser so now try to stick with lever backs

I was going to suggest leverback earrings. They seem like the best option in this case.

vix3rd · 08/04/2025 08:53

Go on to Amazon & search Flat back earrings.
I've always had problems with cheap earrings but most of these are titanium / surgical steel & I've not has any reaction and bigger bonus - They don't jab you in the head when you lie on them.

Screw backs are the way forward! I've had my current pair in for nearly two years now (yes I'm lazy). They are a slight faff to get in - not that bad but you wouldn't want to be changing them every day.
Silver Rain have lots.

I agree with this and have just ordered a pair of tiny diamond white gold studs from h samuel with a screw back that I intend to wear in a second hole and never remove. I'm sensitive to lots of metals so it has to be gold to wear regularly and after trying loads of options over the years for that piercing I've decided to go for a screw back and never take them out

Ihavepandassurvivalinstinct · 08/04/2025 08:59

Screw back with flat back is a bliss. Mine are on 24/7.
I have similar to this. Very comfy

I wear tiny gold huggies and leave them in all the time. They are easy to get in and out if you have to remove them and just click shut.
