Earrings that can be worn all the time, even in the shower?

Not sure if I’m looking for the impossible here, but let’s see.
Generally I don’t have much luck with earrings. I’m a careful person but often they fall out or get lost. What I’d really like is some earrings that I can wear all day, every day and not have to worry about taking them out in the shower. My preference is dangle or drop earrings with a bit of sparkle; the type that have a sort of hook at the back, without a closure. Earrings with a butterfly closure aren’t ideal for me as they will invariably end up falling out.
So, if such a thing exists, your recommendation please for a bling earring that won’t go crusty or discoloured in water.

agree with Huggies so long as they’re not a flimsy pair that lose their alignment and stop clicking into place… I have one pair like that and one pair of Monica vinader ones which I’ve never had an issue with. So comfy to sleep in too

TizerorFizz · 05/04/2025 12:56

@JMSA They are a type of earring and typically close to the ear. They rarely close with butterflies. Usually the section going through the ear clips securely into a secure holder on the back of the earring. Small hoops are a good bet too.

These are all from Liberty and would be secure. Different price points at 2 are good.

I wear silver hoops and 2 silver necklaces. They never come off. Apart from when I need xrays or something.

You could try looking for titanium earrings. They're hypoallergenic so often designed to be worn all the time, so with screw-on backs or huggy style.

Came here to say this - I got multipacks of titanium ones on Amazon for under £20, which I wear all the time. I used to be OK with the sterling silver but I suspect many being sold as sterling silver now aren't and they turn my ears green! Titanium are what they use to pierce with so are more durable.

Avoid Ted Baker - I got some thinking the extra price and name would be a treat but after 2 days of wearing them they went black. Not good quality at all.

Sterling silver square hoops £35 from M&S are my everyday pair - in and out of the shower. Not in stock at the moment but here are some sterling silver ones that you might like.

Silver goes black on me. Also tends to make skin go itchy if in ears too long. Gold doesn’t tarnish so is a better bet.

PurpleKate · 05/04/2025 15:16

Look for lever-back earrings.

Oceangrey · 05/04/2025 15:18

Either you need gold, or something like the Orelia Luxe range, which are waterproof (I wear them in the shower, swimming etc no problem)

MyKingdomForACat · 05/04/2025 15:34

Small gold sleeper hoops or Huggies x

Pinkpupsx · 05/04/2025 16:45

I got these for Christmas about 2 years ago. They’re meant to be waterproof and they’re bloody excellent. I’ve worn them everyday since getting them and they still look brand new. No tarnishing or discolourisation whatsoever.

Try LOX earring backs. They are brilliant.

TheSassyAmberNewt · 05/04/2025 18:06

You need to go for solid metal if you don’t want them to tarnish eventually. Vermeil will last a bit longer than plated but the coating will eventually rub off.

If you don’t want to lose them, how about dangly ones that close at the back? Search for leaver back earrings.

I have solid gold sleeper hoop earrings from Lily & Roo ( I just swap out the pearls for some other type of pendant or just wear the hoops): https://lilyandroo.com/products/solid-gold-large-pearl-drop-hoop-earrings?nosto_source=cmp&nosto=1694354461

They are a pain to put on, but once on they won't budge and won't discolour etc b/c they are solid gold. I can't even feel them when they are on

I really recommend HeyHarper. They are a brand that sells tarnish free jewelry, if you have a look online you can usually find decent discounts with influencer ad links. I've bought a few pieces from them, they are well made and I never take them off - beach/swimming pool/shower etc. I keep them on. No issues with tarnishing at all. I've had them a couple of years so they've been well tested. You also have a lifetime warranty so if they do tarnish you get a refund.

JMSA · 05/04/2025 19:34

Thanks everyone!
Hey Harper is just what I’m looking for. Their website is a disaster though, as I keep getting error messages mid-browse. But they do fit the bill!

I wear diamond studs with a screw on back rather than a push on. Been wearing them for about 25 years 24/7

luckylavender · 06/04/2025 07:39

I don't wear earrings in the shower but I find earrings that a just a hook are far more likely to come out. They get caught in my hair. I find the most stable earrings are lever back.

stickmanohstickman · 06/04/2025 07:43

I have some jewellery from this brand, waterproof and don’t tarnish - I’ve worn them in the pool, in the sea, in the shower etc atoleajewelry.com

Cabbagefamily · 06/04/2025 07:54

You need solid gold- 9 carat will be fine at the cheaper end. Avoid gold vermeil or gold plated at all costs.

Binman · 06/04/2025 08:01

Not sure about earing's but I use these backs on studs and hooks with no closure and they stay on and don't stick in my neck in bed. They are cheap enough to try out.

Same, best investment was purchasing diamond studs 25+ years ago, never take them out.
