Earrings that can be worn all the time, even in the shower?

Not sure if I’m looking for the impossible here, but let’s see.
Generally I don’t have much luck with earrings. I’m a careful person but often they fall out or get lost. What I’d really like is some earrings that I can wear all day, every day and not have to worry about taking them out in the shower. My preference is dangle or drop earrings with a bit of sparkle; the type that have a sort of hook at the back, without a closure. Earrings with a butterfly closure aren’t ideal for me as they will invariably end up falling out.
So, if such a thing exists, your recommendation please for a bling earring that won’t go crusty or discoloured in water.

I would try labret earrings. You put them in from the back and can have threaded, threadless or push fit fronts. I wear mine all the time.

I wear these too. They are so comfy to sleep in and I barely feel I’ve got earrings in.
Jco jewellery have a good range.

I just use the earrings that piercers use when they first pierce your ears. They are hypoallergenic nickel or titanium or something but come in gold/silver colouring and can be plain stud or bling stud. You can do anything with those in your ears. I only ever swap them out if I’m going out somewhere special then put them straight back when I get home. Every 2 years, I just pick up a new pair from a piercing place.

ETA no fear of them coming out. They have sme sort of mechanism so they can’t fall out as they are meant to reman in place for 6-12 weeks with fresh piercings.

I wear gold hoops similar to the ones in the link.
I wear for months on end. Only removing when I get bored or need to wear something different for a special occasion.

I used the plastic snug bits you get on the back of Primark earrings on all my drop earrings to make sure they don't come off

Little Nells huggies! Super comfy, loads of styles, really hard-wearing.

Booboobagins · 06/04/2025 13:41

I feel the challenge @JMSA I think your basically stuck with gold or silver hoops/sleepers. I've bought so many with stones and stones fall out :( Hope you can find something you like.

BTW Pearls should not be worn in the shower or bath - seems like an odd thing to say cos they're made by oysters, but oysters coat them. Once there is no oyster protecting them, they are open to damage by water and soaps.

I have waterproof jewellery from Bohomoon, a necklace, ear cuff and a bracelet and wear them every day inc 1+ showers per day and they’ve not discoloured.

Ilovelowry · 06/04/2025 19:07

I wear J Crew huggies, hoops in different sizes. They haven't tarnished in two years of wearing them.

mamabluestar · 06/04/2025 21:12

I have these and others that are similar. I leave them in for weeks at a time

Corknut · 06/04/2025 23:10

I wear gold plated waterproof earrings everyday. They are plated in PVD I think? Lots of companies do them, even asos etc. I never take them off.

Busybeemumm · 07/04/2025 01:04

22ct gold or platinum earrings come with a screw butterfly.

Go to a piercing studio and get the flat backed internal threaded ones - they are flat backed titanium so won’t fall out or discolour.

I have a pair of vintage (from the 1930"s) lever back hematite drops similar to these. I can wear them and keep them in. I have about 3 or 4 pairs of really comfortable earrings, and tend to switch them out about once a month.

If OP wants to shower in these earrings and keep them in all the time, she can't have anything that's plated. It will wear off. She'll have to go for pure metal, either sterling silver or solid gold. 18k gold is quite soft for permanent wear, but 9k or 14k would be fine. Sterling silver is very tough, and platinum would be ideal for the type of wear OP wants, but it's more expensive of course.

OP, if you like white metals and can afford it, choose some platinum earrings. You can wear those every day for the rest of your life including showering and swimming, and they'll be just fine.

ThisFluentBiscuit · 07/04/2025 04:58

PVD coatings don't last if you shower, swim, sleep in them etc. Better than other plating, sure, but it's not the same as solid metals. If you want something truly durable that can withstand everything, you need sterling silver, platinum, or 9k or 14k gold.

PVD jewellery can last a long time if it's treated gently, which doesn't include living in them.

OP, I know the below suggestions are expensive, but these are real set-it-and forget-it territory. Platinum is pretty much indestructible, and when it's polished, no metal is lost. The metal just moves around. The shimmer-cut ones look really nice. You might be able to find discount codes too.

For something cheaper and still ultra-durable:

Hinged Hoop Earrings in Sterling Silver (3 x 14 mm)

WAIT! Just found huggies in solid 14k white gold, yellow gold, or rose gold, for only 125 pounds.

OP, here are some dangle earrings with a bit of sparkle in 14k solid gold, on sale. You could live in these and they'll be fine.

Round Drop Earrings in 14k Italian Yellow Gold

I've bought quite a lot from Blue Nile and they're a great company.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 07/04/2025 07:39

Try solace jewelry. All sleeping in and shower proof!

FuzzikinsPompombum · 07/04/2025 07:50

i wear a lot of sleeper hoops with charms/dangles and keep them on for days at a time. Mine are all sterling silver or solid gold and I’ve never had an issue with them.

The only earrings I wouldn’t keep in overnight/in the shower are big ones or ones with a hook. In fact I always put a butterfly or rubber stopper over the hook types as they are the only types I’ve lost in the past.
