The next thread, royal style mavens! The title suggestion was from our last thread. Mary of Teck was never knowingly underdressed or less than bejewelled!

I think it would look too workwear as a midi. For a different occassion the outfit would look good if it was a midi like a day time event but I think nightime going to the theatre it just doesn't work regardless of the skirt length.

The problem is that the print is typical for office-wear and wool fabrics, not evening. This length would work with silky fabric but with houndstooth the skirt just overwhelms the whole look.

Her make-up is gorgeous though. She should have her make-up artist do a tutorial rather than bake cakes with him.

Here is Alexandra's Coronation portrait.

Quite lovely. I vaguely recall a TV series about her and husband way back in time. They portrayed her as a gracious woman. Will have to look it up.

justasking111 · 16/04/2025 20:12

Found it TV series was Lillie, about Lillie Langtry and the princess of Wales.

Apparently the Tindalls and Peter Phillips were at the Grand Prix too. I think PP used to work in the industry but the Tindalls always seem keen on a freebie too.
Anyway, busy week for the Danish royals with the family gathering for Margrethe’s 85th birthday too.
And a close up pic of Isabella wearing her mother’s earrings.

Daisy looks well

BridgetJonesesOwl · 17/04/2025 01:14

Alexandra was a saint putting up with Bertie's (Edward VII) philandering.
Wonder if she had 'companion' on the side - I wouldnt blame her!

I don’t think she had any choice in the matter poor woman. Look at how Diana was treated, many years later, for complaining.

Christian seems to be growing into his looks.

I think that is the lot of an upper class wife in a many cases. Hopefully of the past with the current generation of royals

I think among King Edwards set adultery was very common. I'm not sure it had the emotional impact it would today.

The King and Queen in Durham for the Maundy service. Camilla in a lovely dark green outfit, but a bit wintery for a lovely spring day.[[https://BBC News - Crowds in Durham watch the King and Queen attend Maundy ceremony - BBC News

Camilla looks lovely today. I've been spoilt this week on the Royal Watcher with birthdays, gems, etc. Max has looked amazing. Frisbees aplenty. Mary and family looking good. The sunny weather really helps with showing off the clothes

Maireas · 17/04/2025 16:41

The green outfit looks nice. Durham Cathedral is such a magnificent building, absolutely amazing.

We don’t have to go back to Edwardian times to see a Royal mistress 😉

Did Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother or Bertie ( King George V1 ) have extra marital affairs ?

gingercat02 · 17/04/2025 19:32

And erm the King

There were a few memes at the time of the Coronation along the lines of "giving hope to side chicks everywhere"...

I don't think there's ever been stories of the Queen Mum and George VI having affairs, although Lady Colin Campbell claims some form of artificial insemination was involved in the conception of their children. Not sure how she knows - I assume she wasn't there at the time!

Looking at that picture of the king, he looks very Hanoverian like some late portraits of George III and William IV well some likeness anyhow

Eaumyword · 17/04/2025 22:00

Cams does suit a hat and that green is nice on her.

RomainingCalm · 17/04/2025 22:56

Camilla looks great there and I love her hat. Durham is gorgeous. Loved the picture of Daisy looking so fit and well.

Lovely to see pearls getting an airing.

Stonkers as well! Wish I had pearls like that and a mahoosive tiara - although wasted I suppose on housework and dog walking...
Although, there is that glorious photo of Debo Devonshire feeding the chickens in her priceless heirlooms!

gingercat02 · 18/04/2025 15:37

I have lovely pearl earrings I wore for my wedding that I never think about wearing. They live in a box in the bottom of my jewellery box. I should move them in with my other earrings. After 24 years they probably deserve a day out 😂
They aren't Max standard sadly

Maireas · 18/04/2025 15:39

Wear them, @gingercat02 . They need to be worn.
