Where am I going wrong with this style shoe?

These are EVERYWHERE and I can see them being so handy for just pushing on for the school run, nipping to the shop, etc. But I tried 3 pairs on today and couldn't walk in them! I don't know what it was they just felt like they were slipping off so I was having to curl my toes to keep them on which isn't practical for walking!

Is it the price point? The pairs I tried on were all under £30, is it something you need to spend more on or is it my feet?! I've never had issues with flip flops, sandals or sliders before.

I can’t wear any shoe/slipper/sandal without a back or strap across the back. I feel the same that I have to curl my toes to keep them on.

SparrowFeet · 05/03/2025 20:40

The Birkenstock ones that all of these are based on have a moulded sole so it's easier to keep them on I expect.

Chuchoter · 05/03/2025 20:51

They are bloody awful.

Uncomfortable and look hideous.

wildthingsinthenight · 05/03/2025 20:53

I have a friend like this.
I think some foot shapes just don't work with these

ForAzureSeal · 05/03/2025 20:54

I was also tempted by these for same reason @Acunningruse and paid full whack for the Birkenstocks. Wore them twice. (Luckily was able to sell them on vinted albeit at less than half price)

NattyTurtle59 · 05/03/2025 21:19

I can't wear slip on shoes at all as they just won't stay on my feet.

Acunningruse · 05/03/2025 21:19

Well at least it's not just me I guess! But ouch thats an expensive mistake, @ForAzureSeal

I do know what you mean @Chuchoter they aren't particularly elegant but I think the fact that they are "on trend" and seemed to fulfill the gap of something you can just shove on (when it's not warm enough for flip flops) was drawing me in.

Any suggestions for an alternative?

The Birkenstock ones are so comfortable.

crosskeysgreen · 05/03/2025 21:21

Your feet are probably quite narrow

Acunningruse · 05/03/2025 21:22

I do have narrow feet! Is thst the issue then. Useful to know, thanks

The top of the clog needs to be pretty snug around the foot otherwise they just ping off

crosskeysgreen · 05/03/2025 21:32

Birks do narrow fitting which suit me loads more

Like your opinion.

ClaredeBear · 05/03/2025 22:00

Is your middle toe longer than your others? Mine is, which means I can't wear this style :-(

Overtheatlantic · 05/03/2025 22:01

I think they’re cute but I have the same narrow feet so can’t wear them.

Try the narrow ones, the normal ones slope down at such an angle it hurts my second toe like you say

GoldDuster · 05/03/2025 22:02

Need the narrow fitting for narrower feet, and they do feel a bit weird but you get used to them, I've had them for years by the back door for the garden.

Sampler · 05/03/2025 22:13

I got similar style clogs in suede in tk maxx last week with the sheepskin lining which keeps them on and they seem comfy, they’re not to everyone’s taste but I think they’ll come in handy with cut off jeans and a jumper occasionally.

Togglebullets · 05/03/2025 22:16

Funnily enough I've been eyeing up the Dr Marten versions of these but haven't tried them on yet. I have small fat feet like little trotters so maybe they'll work for me!

Melancholyflower · 05/03/2025 22:18

Why do some people feel the need to say that they wouldn't wear them and think they are ugly? The OP, and lots of other people, obviously do like the style, and nobody asked whether other people like them or not.

Bodumb · 05/03/2025 22:18

they are a bit basic and definitely no good if you’re gonna walk anywhere

Yeah that's what put me off starting my own thread. I don't care if other people find them ugly it's just bloody tedious when you ask a specific question and idiots pop up with their irrelevant comments

Does this mean my crocs are back en vogue?
