Need a perfume to fit a brief

DDs birthday is coming up. Romantic soul that she is has requested:

”perfume that smells like Middle Eastern market at sunset with pyramids at the back and a man playing a flute as the wind carries the smell of shaksuka.”

Any suggestions that might work for a late teen?

Thought from the title it was a new thing- perfumed knickers!

Notanother0nee · 01/03/2025 18:29

Maybe one of the kayali perfumes from huda beauty.
Sounds like she would like something oud based…

emeraldsarebest · 01/03/2025 18:32

Penhaligons Alula

EatingSleeping · 01/03/2025 18:42

That's quite a specific brief. There is a relatively cheap perfume range in boots that has a spice market with an orange blossom. It's kayali Kayali Marrakesh in a Bottle. I've not smelt it specially but the Maldives version lasts well enough and is a good holiday perfume

A more luxe version might be Maison Margiela Replica range. I love their beach walk. Under the stars might fit the brief .

BACCARAT ROUGE 540 MAISON FRANCIS KURKDJIAN PARFUM

IDontHateRainbows · 01/03/2025 19:36

It can be hard to get the right perfume for another person. I'd buy a kayali gift set, they do a summery one and oud one and a vanilla one, comes with 4 small but still decent size bottles ( 10ml)

Budget?

I instantly thought of L’Air du Desert Marocain by Tauer but it’s expensive and not easy to find. I certainly wouldn’t risk a whole bottle as a blind buy - whatever you choose, get a sample first.

FatLarrysBanned · 01/03/2025 19:45

Molton Brown Neon Amber makes me think of the Middle East. Very oud. Strong.

I think Baccarat Rouge 540 would be a little too sweet, but a lovely perfume still.

MulberryPeony · 01/03/2025 19:50

Istanbul by Gallivant
Oud Alif by Shay and Blue

GetMyAgentOnThePhone · 01/03/2025 19:50

She likes Oud with a sandlewood / desert rose vibe

Go on to Fragranitica.com and use their ‘search by notes’ option.

GetMyAgentOnThePhone · 01/03/2025 19:51

*sandalwood

Autocorrect bollocks innit.

FondantFancyFan · 01/03/2025 20:10

Desert Eden by Estee Lauder fits the brief; it's a musk based rose scent. I have this and I'm always complimented on it.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 01/03/2025 20:11

Penhaligons Halfeti

EvelynBeatrice · 01/03/2025 20:16

Sophisticated taste … unfortunately can mean greater cost. I agree with the Molton Brown above and also think Molton Brown Rose Dunes may fit the brief.

Blondiney · 01/03/2025 20:17

Shazam, 4160 Tuesdays

LordEmsworth · 01/03/2025 20:21

Eight & Bob, Egypt?

Owlcat42 · 01/03/2025 20:38

Another vote for Tauer's L'air du desert marocain, which I love. Les Senteurs sell it; they also sell samples so if you've got the time you could try a few different ones - there are some good suggestions below the listing.

FondantFancyFan · 01/03/2025 20:41

Organza by Givenchy

Fuckthecamelyourodeinon · 01/03/2025 20:47

Halfeti? Given the cost of the real deal, I'd go with the perfume parlour version in the first instance for 1/20th the price...

BACCARAT ROUGE 540 MAISON FRANCIS KURKDJIAN PARFUM

I think I'd second this OP. If it's too expensive, I'm sure it's the Zara red that smells very much similar for a fraction of the price.

Pollyanna87 · 01/03/2025 22:56

Is she sure she wants to smell of shakshouka?!

I’d recommend Shalimar by Guerlain, though, which really does smell of an oriental sunset. She’ll probably like many of the Penhaligons orientals, too.

destiel00 · 01/03/2025 23:01

4160tuesdays midnight in the palace garden
4160tuesdays Shazam!
Andy Tauer L'air du desert du marocain
Andy Tauer Au coeur du desert

destiel00 · 01/03/2025 23:02

Also, Istanbul by Gallivant and Pengaligons Halfeti

faithspikebuffy · 01/03/2025 23:03

Shazam, 4160 Tuesdays

Second that one

Everything0Everywhere · 01/03/2025 23:26

Penhaligans do sets with a variety of scents. https://www.penhaligons.com/uk/en/c/fragrances--10000/discovery--10105
The sets are reasonably priced but if she wants the full-sized version, it's going to get expensive pretty quickly!
