What would you buy?

I’m trying to buy less but still want to feel current, would love some new ideas of what to buy or where to look.

I'd check my wardrobe to see what items I actually need. If you're need 5 new tops get 5 new tops. Maybe a pair of new shoes is needed.

Buying for the sake of buying just leads you to a wardrobe like mine.

Your value isn't defined by buying new clothes. Especially if you've seen the pictures from Ghana

queenofthemay · 26/02/2025 10:47

Always one, isn’t there?

RockStarMartini · 26/02/2025 11:54

As stated - for many reasons - I’d like to buy less. That said, feeling I look good/right for the situation does a lot for my self esteem and mental health so I’m not going to stop buying clothes altogether and I didn’t really come on to a Style and Beauty forum for a lecture 🙄

To be fair, I do think it depends what you already own and what you tend to wear. As a general rule though, I'd aim to refresh basics or buy things you always wore over winter but in a more spring-like colour or fabric.

For me:

Tan leather handbag (I don't own a good quality one)
New trainers (suede, maybe brown)
Oversized blazer, maybe in brown or grey to change it up from black
Good quality white t-shirt or shirt
New pair of jeans or trousers in a current silhouette (I like wide leg trousers but can't get on with jeans, so slim fit or straight for me).

A bit boring, but I'm also trying to buy less and I think you can't go wrong with those pieces. If you already have your basics and want something more fashionable maybe a cropped trench or suede jacket, or a pair of mule-style shoes?

Floisme · 26/02/2025 12:22

You don't have to justify yourself op.

I haven't got 5 things on my list but I'd like to find a couple of pairs of shoes to freshen things up. Not easy as I don't wear heels and don't like trainers, but I've been browsing some of the new look ballet flats and I'd also love to find some ankle high, flat, comfortable cowboy boots.

Also a couple of T shirts, although I might not be able to afford two as I'm unbelievably fussy and so far, the only ones I've found that I like are Toast and Margaret Howell Shock

What’s going on in Ghana?

henlake7 · 26/02/2025 12:56

I need a new pair of trainers
I 'want' a pair of chunky loafers

lindyloo57 · 26/02/2025 16:38

I would a mini denim skirt, I've just parted with one i had from esprit, I had it for ten years, so good quality, I'm only 5ft 3 so mini on me is only a couple of inches above the knee

Wiennetta · 26/02/2025 17:45

I’d buy a few updated/upgraded items of things that I know I’ll wear.

eg if you wear a lot of jeans, is it worth buying a new pair in a more current style if you don’t already have some?

Or if you have lived in trainers as you main flat shoe option, would you think about maybe some ballet pumps, Mary Janes or loafers? They’re all very popular at the moment. I’m definitely enjoying wearing shoes again to eg a casual evening out rather than trainers.

Or maybe get a couple of things in a colour which is currently popular and suits you?

I’d look at sites like Who What Wear for inspiration!

I’m buying a couple of pairs of wide leg jeans (dark grey and light denim) a sheer long sleeved top, and a white sheer cap sleeve top next week!

Thanks to all who’ve answered in the spirit of the thread ☺️

It was me. Thank you for that - I really couldn’t work out what you meant. I can’t see when it’s going to change though.

MissyB1 · 28/02/2025 21:31

I'm scouring Vinted and Ebay. And I've gone through my wardrobe and made a list of what I actually need (as opposed to the many things I would like!)

adidas gazelle Trainers - found on Vinted and ordered
Lightweight waterproof jacket - Ebay and ordered
Girlfriend style jeans - Still searching may have to buy new from fatface
Lightweight sweatshirt - still browsing Vinted and Ebay

AreWeRunning · 01/03/2025 08:11

I'm after a tan handbag but I'm not sure if I want leather or suede. I know suede is in at the moment and I've seen one I like in Dune but I don't know if I like it enough...

I'm always looking for a perfect Spring jacket at this time of year. Something I can wear with jeans, maybe a light bomber.

LunaNorth · 01/03/2025 08:22

I want some bright Gazelles, but I can’t decide on what colour.

I’ve bought a dark green leather midi skirt.

I would like a few more ‘nice tops’ to wear with the leather skirt or with jeans, but I struggle to find ones that suit me. A lot of them have frills on the shoulders, and I’m pretty broad shouldered already, so I feel like a shot-putting milkmaid in them.

anon2022anon · 01/03/2025 08:33

Currently on my list is ...
Adidas leopard Samba I've actually received these this week as a very early birthday present
Looking for a red cardigan, but can't find what I want (sezane on a budget), I think I'll try this George one
Cropped wide leg jeans

Cantonet · 01/03/2025 08:54

I really would like/ need a pair of Oofos flipflops. I love the platform ones but the £80 for super squishy plastic flipflops is difficult to reconcile.

A Uniqlo denim blue linen shirt. Such a beautiful blue that's hard to come by.

An M&S Asymmetric denim skirt. Lovely shape but interesting/questionable reviews.

On literally every post!
Why bother coming on this board 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

MissAtomicBomb1 · 01/03/2025 12:13

Anyway to answer the question.
A lightweight jacket that looks good with wide leg jeans.
Another pair of adidas gazelles.
Some nice PJs

BlackEyedFrozenPeas · 01/03/2025 14:51

Oh bloody hell, why did I click on this thread.
I came on here really early this morning and now I can’t stop thinking about those animal print adidas gazelle 😩

anon2022anon · 03/03/2025 07:06

@BlackEyedFrozenPeas if it makes you feel any better, you're not going to get them now unless you're willing to pay scalper prices on eBay 😂 they were on a limited edition release, not sure if they're doing any more.

DancingNotDrowning · 03/03/2025 08:58

On my immediate list

wide leg jeans
possibly a suede jacket
chunky loafers for work
khaki tote
a cotton lace blouse

I also have a couple of smart day time events so could do with at least one dress and and interesting jacket to go with some trousers I already have,

RockStarMartini · 03/03/2025 14:05

I just can’t make wide leg jeans work - because I’m quite wide myself there just seems to be so much material flapping about 😳

Trying hard to resist a pair of bold coloured Adidas and still contemplating a lightweight jacket - I’ve got a couple of bikers and bombers, a cargo style and several raincoats so I probably don’t need another one but none of them quite ticks the box I’m thinking of which is semi smart, comfy, practical and up to date. I used to love the Boden Photographer Jacket that was a great favourite on here, have been searching Vinted without success so far.
