What do you think of this cardigan for a winter wedding?

I'm not a fashion - savvy person at all, and I don't do dresses or skirts. I have a winter wedding towards the end of 2025 (I'm already worried about what to wear), and I came across this from Sahara:

Long Cardigan from Sahara

I really like the model's whole ensemble and would feel comfortable in it. But do you think that the cardigan, with its large boucle material, would look too casual? I really want to be comfortable and warm!

(edited for spelling!)

I think it’s too casual and looks like a dressing gown.

LaundryFairy · 17/02/2025 15:29

That’s what I was worried about. I do like the length and shape, but I’m afraid you’re right. I’m really struggling to find something that I like!

Looks far too casual for a wedding. I like it but not for an occasion such as a wedding

hopeishere · 17/02/2025 15:30

It's nice but too casual I think. Is it a dressy wedding? Would you wear that instead of a coat?

CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair · 17/02/2025 15:31

It’s not suitable at all, colour, length, material and shape are all wrong. You’ve got a long time to go so should be able to find something fab, maybe even in the sale now we’re moving into spring. What else do you like?

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 17/02/2025 15:32

Hmm, I would wear that to work/ out with dogs but DSis would carry it off like it's meant to be. What were you thinking if wearing underneath it?

HolyStyleFailBatman · 17/02/2025 15:36

Maybe a jumpsuit if you don’t like dresses. There are some nice understated black ones on next and river island websites. I actually like the cardigan but I also am no fashionista

Bignanna · 17/02/2025 15:37

OP I went to a winter wedding and bought a short faux fur jacket, and so did quite a few others. It’s ideal for the occasion, dressy and warm

JRorBobby · 17/02/2025 15:39

It's too casual. Definite no I think.

If you're not into skirts and dresses, what is the look you're going for, maybe a more form fitting jumpsuit? Or do you prefer very flow-y, loose?

MounjaroOnMyMind · 17/02/2025 15:39

Tell us something about the way you like to look now and we might be able to come up with some suggestions. What's your hair and skin colour? What height and size and build are you?

LaundryFairy · 17/02/2025 15:47

Thanks for all the feedback and confirming what I already thought - the cardigan is too casual.

The wedding isn’t super formal (think rural but a tad conservative). I know that most women will be in dresses, but that is a definite no for me as I have mobility issues. I also have never really worried about fitting in to be honest; as long as I don’t cause offence by appearing too casual, I’m fine.

I did like the Sahara model’s look - what about going with a more structured long wool coat which looked more formal?

To answer some suggestions, jumpsuits are also out for physical reasons. And I’m afraid I’m not keen on faux fur / animal prints.

I’m 5’7” with broad shoulders and a generally large frame

I live that outfit, but agree it is too casual for a slightly conservative wedding.

I've never come across Sahara. They look like they have some nice stuff.

leccybill · 17/02/2025 15:56

Not for the wedding but I'd get the cardigan anyway (or see if it goes on sale), sounds like it's suitable for you and a nice treat.

BigSilly · 17/02/2025 16:06

Ugh!

BabyDream2025 · 17/02/2025 16:08

Too casual. Cardigans and weddings do not go.

LaundryFairy · 17/02/2025 16:12

Yup, point well and truly taken.

Thanks to all and I shall keep looking.

I think you could pull it off @LaundryFairy . Jumpsuits are always suggested on here but i don't like the dressy jumpsuit look.

Snippit · 17/02/2025 16:19

Definitely not for a wedding. As others have said a faux fur jacket, although I have a beautiful knee length one that I wore to a burial last December, it wasn’t as warm as I anticipated 🥶

user1471600850 · 17/02/2025 16:44

Sorry but you can wear whatever you want to a wedding - jeans and a t shirt is too casual but a long knitted cardigan is fine if that is what suits you and you like

ValentineValentineV · 17/02/2025 16:52

How about trousers and a Chanel type cardigan/jacket?

There are lots of these types of cardigans around at the moment in different fabrics and colours and they are warm.

What do you think of this cardigan for a winter wedding?
Chuchoter · 17/02/2025 16:53

I would wear that around the house certainly not for a wedding!

GreenCandleWax · 17/02/2025 18:15

Can you find a midi dress that does not feel threatening? You have plenty of time. And put a more structured coat over it, or a suitable jacket.. I am afraid cardigan and wedding don't really belong in the same sentence, and your favourite one is far too casual in the fabric too. 🌷

Mumofoneandone · 17/02/2025 18:17

Look into really good thermals for winter weddings! I bought one for a December wedding and it was brilliant. Really cosy without being too bulky. I can't cope with being cold either!

I think the concept of the outfit could work, maybe with a more festive coatigan e.g
