Make sure what you buy is natural materials like cotton rather than manmade like polyester, because if you're in a plane crash manmade fabrics will melt on to your skin.

Thank you. I'll bear that in mind when I can't sleep at night Grin

I always wear compression socks, technical leggings, and a black silk dress with no waist, just loose, and wool Allbirds. All black. Massive pants and a bralette underneath. I take a coat with good big pockets to put my water/passport/phone/headphones in so I can move about easily and not have my hands filled with everything. In a little bag I have airpods and an airfly, multi-cable powerbank, a silk eyemask (from Amazon, not expensive), lipbalm, carregelose sinus spray, massive sunglasses, and that's my "kit". I fly every month.

Boody bamboo joggers are super comfy and don't look too tracksuity. I think the weight of the material is perfect for a long flight.

Seriously? Should we take parachutes with us as well, just in case??

You lot are brilliant.

Any neck pillow recommendations? I've got a trtl but don't like it much as it's a bit too high on my neck.

I've travelled even long haul in loose jeans 😅but anything has to be cotton, and cover all skin (long sleeves etc)

MissFritton65 · 15/02/2025 20:13

@RitaFromTheRanch I've got a memory foam full wrap- around neck support- I've had it for years so unfortunately don't have a link but it's brilliant - I slept 7 hours on my last flight!

Do88byisfree · 15/02/2025 20:54

When I flew long haul recently the cabin was really cool. I was very grateful for my large scarf that I had in my hand luggage

Gemma2003 · 15/02/2025 23:36

I've said it before on here - but here goes. I have travelled so many long haul flights I cannot remember including back to backs with a baby and back to backs straight into meetings. I am from New Zealand, lived in UK and have travelled all over the world. Heck it takes us 10 hours just to get anywhere apart from Australia, and forty years of long haul flights have taught me some things.

My go to outfit is a pair of black merino pants - like yoga pants, elastic waist slightly flared. I wear with a black or white modal t-shirt and a black merino cardigan. I usually also wear a cashmere or pashmina scarf when boarding so I can use if I don't like the blankets or I need a better pillow. I wear flat slip on shoes. Not lace up which is a total pain (although I have been known to wear them on occasion). Pref something you can wear with a thickish pair of socks so you can take your shoes off, still have your feet covered, and if the worst comes to the worst and your feet swell as mine sometimes do you can take your socks off to get your shoes back on.

In your carry on luggage don't over pack. Include a clean t-shirt, undies, wet wipes and deodorant, tooth brush and toothpaste.

I am not sure what this obsession with things trailing in the toilets are - I am very fussy and I have never had an issue. Dresses are not a good idea because you can't easily change during your lay over unless you take an entire other dress.

Don't worry about the weather when you arrive too much - if you are long haul dress for the flight, not the 30 minute taxi ride at the end.

JustJoinedRightNow · 15/02/2025 23:55

The last PP advice is excellent.

OP it'll be really hot and muggy when you arrive in Melbourne, compared to the UK. But Melbourne weather can change in an instant so like PP said, dress for the flight and make sure you've got a nice warm jumper or cardi because it does get cold on the plane.

Have a great time. Melbourne during F1 is amazing! Keep an eye out for the low flyover of the Qantas A380, that's pretty cool!

DecafDodger · 16/02/2025 07:56

instead of scarf, take a wool or even better, cashmere poncho - more comfortable.

AllyCart · 16/02/2025 12:49

I'm another who's regularly on long hauls on business (2 trips already this year) and would also advocate for worrying only about comfort.

No one - absolutely no one - cares how good you look getting off a 12hr+ flight, and nor will you by that point.

Nothing but comfort matters.

comfyslippers2 · 16/02/2025 14:16

Stretch Cargo pants from Roman - they're fabulous! Bought a black pair for a flight & holiday last year & now have them in 6 different colours - black, navy, khaki, beige, teal & faux denim.
https://www.roman.co.uk/turn-up-stretch-cargo-trousers-18050940

They are super stretchy & really comfy for sitting in for hours at a time. They are straight leg and flattering - not clingy like leggings & much smarter material than joggers. They look like proper smart trousers but with all the comfort of pjs!
The have big pockets on each side which are literally the same size as a passport - the other can take an iPhone max size so great for keeping boarding pass & passport handy in airport.

They have turn ups which are not fixed/stitched so can be easily altered - I'm 5ft 3' so they're almost full length on me - drop the turn ups down one in this country for cold weather/early flight & turn them up a few times once arrived in hot country.

I love them & have bought them in the shorter cropped version now too - there's always discount codes available but even without they're pretty great value.

Have a great flight & enjoy your holiday xx

Tesco have got some lovely “joggers” in at the moment — super soft, Tensel fabric and don’t look like joggers at all, but drawstring waist.

IggyAce · 16/02/2025 14:25

My last long haul I wore smart jogger style trousers that I got from Uniqlo, they are very comfortable.

oosha · 22/02/2025 18:54

I always go for loose dark colored linen trousers, a comfy tshirt and a cardigan in case I’m cold.

BobnLen · 22/02/2025 18:58

The M&S £14 straight leg joggers are comfy and quite smart

Danielle9891 · 22/02/2025 18:59

I've flown from Manchester to Sydney, Australia a few times and always go with leggings and an oversized t-shirt and jumper and trainers.

Movinghouseatlast · 22/02/2025 19:04

I recently wore light wide leg trousers from M and S with thermal leggings underneath, with a thermal long sleeve top with a t shirt over the top and a cardigan. I took the thermals and cardigan off just before we landed. On the way back did the opposite

CleaningAngel · 22/02/2025 19:45

RitaFromTheRanch · 12/02/2025 18:10

They do look good but might be a bit too pricey at the moment, I definitely want to look okay when we land and not like a bag of washing

Look at clothes on vinted cheap as chips

Donsyb · 22/02/2025 22:20

I wear wide legged jersey trousers that don’t crease ( they were £5 from costco), a t shirt and a lightweight hoodie that doesn’t crease. Layers so I can adjust according to temperature.

You need to give your head a wobble here!! You fell asleep and your DH obviously thought you needed uninterrupted sleep. If he had nudged you to move or take out your lense out then it would have defeated the purpose of letting you sleep! He obviously thought you would wake up when you were rested. I'm sure he could have coped with making a bottle of needed as for the towel, I'm sure it was damp rather than dripping wet and you don't live in the artic so you will survive. He obviously did what he thought was right at the time. Stop acting the saint and be thankful the rest. Men on here get a really bad reputation sometimes and this isn't anything more than him trying to let you rest. If this is how you react to him helping I feel sorry for your DH!!

Wrong thread...meant for the cold towel one ?

SnozPoz · 23/02/2025 13:00

I have done a lot of long haul travel for my sins and suggest tracksuit bottoms, or legging style... ie something with a bit of give and an elasticated waist. Also with a high waist, because no one needs to see butt crack. No belts because you have to take them off for security. And on top, layers... ideally with a vest top with a built in bra for comfort underneath, rather than a normal bra... but if that's not possible then bra with no under-wiring. A long sleeve t-shirt top, and then a hoody with a big hood that can go over your eyes to help you sleep. Cotton, or natural fibres, also for comfort and dark colours for spills! Colour code -like all navy - for a more put together look. Wear lace up shoes, like trainers, because your feet will probably swell and you can loosen them. Avoid mascara and eyeliner because you don't want to look like Alice Cooper, and use a big bag... but with a zip so things don't fall out.

I bought a lovely long black cotton t-shirt dress and worn cycle shorts underneath. That way bloating doesn't notice and feel so bad.
