Crazy fashion

What is the point of this new fashion for wearing a jumper and tucking in only a bit of it at the front. That leaves the rest just hanging down shapelessly. ! How can anyone think it looks good?
Equally, the ridiculous hairstyle where the hair is usually in a ponytail, but there’s a ‘bit’ of hair hanging down either side. These come from a middle parting, so fall across the eyes! Must be really irritating! Certainly not attractive! (Coronation Street has a couple of characters who favour this style).
Can someone please explain?

new fashion?

The French tuck has been around for years and years. Constant talk of its demise but it’s a hard habit to give up.

Can’t help with the hair thing.

SoScarletItWas · 25/01/2025 18:43

The tuck thing isn’t new, it’s been around as a ‘French tuck’ for ages, hasn’t it? To give a bit of definition without being fully tucked in.

And if you have curtain bangs, that will happen when you put your hair up 🤷‍♀️ Mind you, I went to school in the 80s and people pulled wispy bits down out of their ponytails.

StarlightLady · 25/01/2025 19:28

The French Tuck provides some coverage of your bum with tight trousers, so favoured by some. Although l’ve seen it a lot with skirts too.

For the hair thing, you need to ask in The Rovers Return.

BuffaloCauliflower · 25/01/2025 19:31

It’s absolutely not new, it’s been going for years and years. As for why - it goes a long way to giving shape to a less shapely outfit, draws the eye to the waist making it look smaller, and is flattering on most body types, plus gives more style/shape rather than a jumper just hanging down, the difference between just wearing clothes and styling them. I look infinitely better with a tuck 😂

JustToBeMe · 25/01/2025 19:31

1984, I think 😆
The thing back then was to tuck the whole of your jumper into your waist band, was horrible, didn't suit anybody.

LunaNorth · 25/01/2025 19:42

I’m waiting for the reverse French tuck to come in. My arse is ok, it’s my tummy that’s the issue.

Mix56 · 25/01/2025 19:45

wrong thread

Betsylee · 25/01/2025 20:01

I don't like this look at all, just don't understand why you would tuck a jumper in!
Probably something decided by a batshit crazy influencer who is being paid to say this.
Wear what you feel comfortable in and suits you.

podthedog · 25/01/2025 20:15

That sounds like my hairstyle. I have a widows peak that is really hard to deal with so a centre parting fringe works great.

henlake7 · 25/01/2025 21:07

I like the look of a half tuck, it always looks effortlessly cool on those tall, skinny women you see on Instagram.
Whenever I've tried it though I just look like I got dressed in a rush!

It doesn't "always looks effortlessly cool". It might have done on the first 5 women who did it. On everyone else it looks contrived and unoriginal.

I’m a fan of a French tuck. Sometimes it’s just needed for waist definition, otherwise I look like a tree trunk and I’m actually quite slim 😂

Same, I love a French tuck. Jumper just hanging down usually hits at my widest point and makes me look blocky.

HonorHaymaker · 26/01/2025 10:40

My DD aged 16 does the hair thing and I must say it would annoy the hell out if me but I fight the urge to comment as I still have vivid memories of my mum dragging me to the hairdressers when I was about 12 because of my flying wedge (Phil Oakey of Human league for those too young to get the reference).

If we can't experiment and look daft when we're 16 then there is no hope for us 😃

TheLeadbetterLife · 26/01/2025 12:28

The French Tuck has been around for decades, can't see that it's worth remarking on either way. I think it can look nice, e.g. with wide-leg pleated flannel trousers.

The hair thing sounds like part of the 90s revival—the Spice Girls, Britney et al wore it like that at one point.

It looks good on influencer and celebs, but I just can't do it. It looks like I went out before I finished getting dressed properly.

TheLeadbetterLife · 26/01/2025 21:41

I think I was just expecting more from a "crazy fashion" thread than tucked-in jumpers.

Never works for me - probably because I am blocky! A French tuck draws attention to my non-waist, as in "Look, I have a waistline if you squint very quickly at this failed trompe-l'oeil attempt".

On the plus side, I can wear a long skirt or trousers with a long, loose top and look exactly as nature intended. On another plus side, I mistyped it as "French fuck", which is an appealing thought!

Garlicnorth · 26/01/2025 23:59

Brilliant poll, OP! I voted "None" 😂

2pence · 27/01/2025 00:37

Isn't the hair just slut strands from the 90s coming back in?

Hope so. Slut strands soften the face while the ponytail gives you a facelift.

Slut strands 🤣🤣🤣
I did this style often in the 90s but never heard of the term!

True. I thought she was going to mention those ugly hairy shoes that seem to be everywhere on fashion websites!

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 27/01/2025 14:37

😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Wasn't aware either of these things were new or crazy!

Hayley1256 · 27/01/2025 14:40

None of these are new

JanetSaysYouGotTidyHair · 27/01/2025 14:43

Gotta LOL at a French tuck and slut strands being described as "crazy fashion" when Irregular Choice shoes exist 😂
