Crazy fashion

What is the point of this new fashion for wearing a jumper and tucking in only a bit of it at the front. That leaves the rest just hanging down shapelessly. ! How can anyone think it looks good?
Equally, the ridiculous hairstyle where the hair is usually in a ponytail, but there’s a ‘bit’ of hair hanging down either side. These come from a middle parting, so fall across the eyes! Must be really irritating! Certainly not attractive! (Coronation Street has a couple of characters who favour this style).
Can someone please explain?

Is it crazy fashion from all ages, or just now?

Here's some objectively bananas ones I'd put at the top of my list:

Lead make-up
Poulaines
Corsets
Stilettos
Filler

@TheLeadbetterLife indeed - and that was just the men!

Corsets aren't objectively bananas. Tight lacing maybe, but corsets supported women quite well. You can read up about the reality behind them.

Supported women for what reason? Why do they need support? It's just fashion.

Even bras are bullshit, as Germaine Greer pointed out. We only wear them because we haven't let go of the idea that women need to be roughly corset-shaped. And all our clothes are consequently designed to work with that shape, so you're stuck either wearing the bloody things, or going full hippy and rejecting fashion.

A French tuck and face framing hair pieces are crazy fashion? Where’s that ‘Only on Mumsnet’ thread…

I think I was just expecting more from a "crazy fashion" thread than tucked-in jumpers.

Me too. What a disappointment. The French tuck and a messy pony, of all pedestrian basic-bitch things, being described as "crazy". I was hoping we were going to get into it with some properly avant-garde stuff or some of the weirder reaches of N-a-P.

thehorsesareallidiots · 27/01/2025 18:25

Can't we have some actual proper crazy fashion now we're all here?

Divebar2021 · 27/01/2025 18:30

Oh god do you remember those boots from that Italian brand that looked like froggy / alien feet? Oh how I wish I could remember the brand.

Divebar2021 · 27/01/2025 18:32

Such a joy 🤩

@Divebar2021 now THAT'S the stuff.

I do have to wonder if those have ever, ever been spotted in the wild, and I love a bit of avant-garde even if my expression of it is mostly limited to buying occasional bits of A.W.A.K.E. MODE on Vinted.
